I signed up for this training www.ihollaback.org/bystanderintervention/In response to the rise in Anti-Asian/American and xenophobic harassment, we at Hollaback! partnered with Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC to adapt our free bystander intervention training as well as offering a de-escalation training to meet this moment. Unfortunately, anti-Asian and Asian American racism and xenophobia is not a new phenomenon. It has been part of American history for a long time, and we have seen it manifested against different Asian/American and Pacific Islander communities in many ways over the years. As the coronavirus pandemic escalates, we have seen more harassment, discrimination, and even violence directed at these communities. The Asian Americans Advancing Justice affiliation has been documenting hate crimes and hate incidents since 2017 at www.StandAgainstHatred.org, which is available in English, Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. WE WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU TO ATTEND OUR FREE BYSTANDER INTERVENTION TRAININGS: We’ve had a tremendous demand for these trainings, and our first three trainings completely sold out. We’re adding a number of additional free trainings. Please note you must register in advance for all trainings. They will be capped at 1,000 people. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. The training is currently only offered in English but we are seeking funding to expand it into other languages.

Sorry, I should not have posted that. I know better than to read comments. This just hurts so much. Also this is spot on.

This world sucks. Or maybe it’s mostly just the US world bc yes I know racism is alive and well in every country but the level of it and the gun issue in this country is next fucking level.

Oh my god I was not prepared for that video to show the cop cradling the injured baby. It makes me want to go snatch my almost 1 year olds from their naps right now to just hug them. That poor little nugget. I hope he will be ok and not remember anything about it given his age.
I can't even speak to the other shooting. I mean, I can. It's just... the second things open up again people take their guns to go do their racist bidding.

That poor baby and his poor mother and family.
I hope those cops have nightmares, seeing that poor child every single time they close their eyes, especially the guiltiest one.
ETA: Preferably, a very good number of those nightmares happen behind bars.

I'm pretty sure Kemp used 45's racist phrasing for Covid. He needs to shut the hell up.

We had a library youth services meeting last week that dedicated 70 minutes to discussing the Seuss issue. We had small breakout zoom rooms and a librarian in mine literally said "how do you draw a chinaman if you don't do slanted eyes?"
So our DEI training is going great. Who is surprised the official position isn't to withdraw the 6 racist books. They said they are leaving it to the branches for each librarian to decide (I'm sure so they can throw us under the bus if necessary).

I might discover that someone defaced all the copies that come across my hands with a black sharpie across the pages that says "THIS BOOK IS RACIST". Then they will have to be discarded. What a shame.

I feel like maybe the ones in circulation should have a disclaimer pasted in the front cover or something (like what Disney did with Dumbo/Peter Pan) if they aren't going to pull them. I mean I couldn't buy CDs without a parental warning on it, so maybe those should have one as well. It COULD be a good teaching moment if I trusted the rest of the world but I dont.
I'm not even touching the absolute stupidity of your colleague because its 2021 and they should know better.

Yes, the entire library system had copies of all six titles. I think my branch had 4 of them? I'm weeding them no questions. I'm not a fan of putting a disclaimer on books, because that will just open up to the public demanding disclaimers on LGBTQ books, BLM, etc. (we already have someone who comes in and hides our kids LGBTQ books).

Taken into custody without harm. After he slaughtered 8 people. This is one of those “tell me someone’s white without telling me someone is white” things, eh? Those poor people and their families 😭😭 That was my first thought when I saw the headlines. White male privilege. Are there any funds set up for the victim's families yet? I want to contribute something.

I'm just speechless about the other shooting. That poor mother. Her poor child. Shame on those cops for shooting into a car like that.

Good grief. The POLICE are already doing the work to “smooth over” the Atlanta murders. This is as much a part of the problem as the anti-Asian rhetoric that led to this crime in the first place.

IT WAS A BAD DAY A BAD DAY I FUCKING CANT I was upset yesterday but now I’m fucking livid. The media is lost. This can’t be swept under the rug as anything other than a targeted attack against Asian women.

IT WAS A BAD DAY A BAD DAY I FUCKING CANT Fuck him. Also, fuck whoever was asking a question at the end that led with “he’s a young guy”. Men are excused for taking their bad days out on women. ETA I see I watched a different video clip then the one posted above. Same story, just a side of extra racism. Terrible.

I will spend my day responding to anyone on twitter who calls him a kid or a young man. He’s a man. He was old enough to buy guns, he’s old enough to be treated as such.

Just a question - I'm assuming research/university libraries that deal with children's literature as an academic subject will continue to keep all the Dr. Seuss books? I don't have a problem with removing them from general public libraries. Or sticking a disclaimer on them.
