Here we are...this month marks I believe 1 year since the boys stepped into a store. I think they have forgotten what retail stores look like and it will likely be another year before they get to see one.

Help. I have a dilemma and unsure how to handle it. Also I could be really really wrong because I haven't Math in almost 30 years. What do you call this 3D shape? Also what would you identify as a tetrahedron? I obviously have googled it but I also don't trust the web. Anyways I may have identified a mistake with DS' Math lesson and not sure if I should let the teacher know or just let it go ( assuming I am right but again like I said I haven't Math in almost 3 decades so lest to say I am corroded rust ) Obviously if DS was in school I wouldn't have known at all and actually his teacher was sick today so had recorded lessons and his assignment was to look for 3D shapes he learnt and he happened to excitedly announced and show me he found a tetrahedron ( pic ) and my initial reaction was ahhh...I don't think so which made me review his lesson and according to his teacher that's what it's called. danvers, any advice being a teacher? .... this also isn't the first time she's made a mistake which well....I pointed out ( DS did during class ) and one other time which I emailed her about. Ugh! I don't want to be like a snooty parent. Also I completely get that everyone makes mistakes....maybe I am mistaken here.

I’d call that shape a pyramid, and a tetrahedron would only have 3 sides and a bottom all of which are triangular, right? A tetrahedron wouldn’t have a square bottom (base? Lol). That’s my super technical answer lol.

Yay, Texas. As of now DS’s school is still requiring masks and I hope that continues.

curmudgeon that's what I vaguely remember, A tetrahedron has 4 faces and I remember it actually from molecular bond from Chemistry. Hubs thinks I should bring it up - he doesn't remember but had to google too. I also checked with my sister, she's a physicist and bio-chemist. She says that she really doesn't use names and just writes up the molecular bond shapes and calculates volumes etc. for work LOL! and that a tetrahedron are made up of triangles and pyramids have a rectangle base.

I read...I am lost for words other than why the hell would you potentially expose to strain the state's resources after the recent disaster. Eventhough the daily cases have dropped, it still isn't under a good threshold plus last I read, Covid is still around and didn't just suddenly disappear. I hope your school district board is sensible. Effing Abbott

duskymonkey I’d probably bring it up to the teacher. Maybe the other teachers here would have advice on how. DS1’s 2nd grade teacher made spelling mistakes A LOT and he always pointed them out to her. I’m sure she loved that.

That's def not a tetrahedron. This is a tetrahedron: Tough call on how to handle it though, I'm not much help there.

duskymonkey I would think that’s just a regular old pyramid since it had a square base and not a triangular one. I’d only say something if he gets it marked wrong or misses it on a test or whatever. Not because I hate parents correcting me - but as a parent I just don’t have the energy in me to contact DD1s teachers. I’d probably tell DS1 “this is a not tetrahedron. The book is wrong” or whatever. I also have to walk a fine line in the battles I fight since I teach and my kids attend the same school I work at - which may cloud my decision ability here.

My state finally released vaccines to all teachers regardless of age! H and I are getting ours at our the local Kroger’s pharmacy on Wednesday! I’m a big ol’ needle wimp so this should be fun 🤦♀️ I’ve gotten my flu shot without incident for years.... but there’s an equal number of needle incidents that ended up with me passing out too.
I’m not actually worried - it is what it is and I’m just happy to be able to get one!

curmudgeon I’m glad things are almost back to normal for you guys! Taitai So jealous of you vacation! My DH’s family in CR have been talking about how much the lack of tourism is impacting the economy there. It’s really devastating on so many people. I’m at the point where I willingly would fly anywhere to get away from winter and the pandemic. I’m making a list right now, when things open up and what deals come up. Johnson and Johnson vaccine just got approved here! It’s the one I want too. But we won’t have a choice, we get what we get.

Hi, 👋 I’ve been MIA. It’s been an adjustment to Monday to Friday but new job is going well. I messed up my security token so I haven’t been able to work at home yet. It’s very different than what I’m used to, I’m used to a loud environment with a large team and dealing with the public. Now I’m in an office with very few people around working directly with one other person, it’s very quiet and lonely. And of course the day I started the new assignment I got an invite for an interview for the job I really want! I only know of one other person that got an interview and it’s my good work friend that also just went on an assignment.
I took today off work because my treadmill is being delivered! They can’t bring it to the basement because of COVID but it will be here, not sure when it will get down to the basement.
Other than that we are adjusting to the new schedule and keeping things locked down until we can get our vaccines. My kids school just got selected for asymptomatic testing so I think we are going to get that done.

danvers , appreciate your POV and you brought up a very good point that I should bring it up only if it continues. Will definitely take that into consideration in the future. Thank you. I just didn't want to be THAT parent Oy! also I'm jumping for joy for you to get your vax! After discussing it with hubs, I email DS' teacher and made sure I threw in lots of encouragements and compliments toward her which I always do in every correspondence and in no way an indication it was her fault. I did it because like curmudgeon said about her son correcting the spelling mistakes lol! I really didn't want DS to blurt out during class about it wrong and my mom said so yadda yadda. I felt she would be open from speaking during PTC and several other times about modifying DS' school work. She was very sweet about it and actually sounded horrified in her reply back.

August Blooms so much happening for you! When it rain it pours. I am glad to hear your new position is going well and excited about the job you really want. J&J vax is going to be a total game changer. After reading about Taitai's vacation, I started looking into family friendly resorts in Langkawi. I think when we actually make it to vacation, we might as well go big or go home. Other good news, my folks told me they are registered for vax and it will roll out for their group at the end of this month. Also hubs will be eligible for vax according to our state plan at the end of the month, so we will wait and see when he will be contacted. CoachTsWife that's incredible that your company is involved with the vax efforts. Such an important endeavor to be apart of.

I feel you, DD2 has been watching too many slime videos on You Tube that use make up as an add in. She destroyed my brand new Urban Decay eyeshadow pallet under her bed. I was able to get most of it out of the carpet. Kids... seriously what are they thinking sometimes.

My brother and SIL came from out of town to stay night tonight with us. The girls have loved having them here. They have played all day with the girls and everyone should sleep good tonight. They are actual the ones H and I picked as legal guardians should something ever happen to us. Watching them interact with our girls every time we are with them affirms this was a right decision.
It’s crazy because my little brother is 8.5 years younger than me so I always think of him as “little” and then I see him in person and he’s 6’5, an engineer with a wife and house and it’s like “oh... yea... he’s not really little anymore” 🤦♀️🤷♀️

I am itching to go to Disney. Just curious when everyone would be comfortable with big vacations again. Once you’re vaccinated?
In good news (since Texas has decided to stop mandatory masks and open ever hint at 100% no restrictions), my county has increased their vaccines from almost 6000/wk to over 13,000/week. So that seems to be something!

So that seems to be something! We would love to take the girls to Disney but Florida seems like it’s been such a shitshow with this whole Covid thing from the get go. I haven’t read a ton on precautions Disney is taking and how well they are at enforcing things currently. Early on I thought I read they were really good about masks and cleaning and distancing/crowd management. I also wonder if Florida will follow Texas lead and stop the mask mandate and other rules which would complicate things further... -Would you be able to go at an “off” time? -Are the boys pretty good about mask wearing - even in a high, humid heat (I assume with Texas yes? My midwest self did not do well this past summer.) -Maybe staying on Disney property would make some social distanced type rules more enforceable than an off park property? H and I are talking about a Disney trip in Fall 2023. It was going to be 2022 but my brother is getting married in Austin next year so that will be our big trip. I think if you could swing it at an “off season” time it might not be too crazy maybe?

This weekend was stunning! We went bike riding after breakfast both days and the boys played outside so much. I was able to trim down 5 plants and started clearing up the strawberry bed. Had to share the pic from our ride. We have snow forecast midweek into the weekend LOL!

My grandma turns 100 on Saturday, March 13th. March 13 2020, her 99th birthday, was the day that her nursing home shut down. The nursing home has started allowing scheduled visits. 8 people per day - 4 time slots with 2 people per slot. They have let our family reserve each time slot for Saturday, so I'll be able to go see Grandma for the first time in well over a year. Well, I have seen her through her window while talking to her on the phone, but that is it. All I want to do is give her a giant hug and I will not be able to do so, as we still have to be behind a plexiglass partition. I'll take whatever I can get, I 100% respect the precautions, but I'm sad it can't be a little more personable. All of the residents have had their vaccine (as well as survived the virus last Fall) and let's face it, Grandma could be gone any day and I'd give almost anything to give her a hug and feel her arms around me. And the boys can't go inside as they aren't allowing anyone under 18. DS1 definitely remembers her and I'd love for him to have the chance to make more memories with her, but hopefully we'll have more opportunities.

Yes yes yes to an O17 SEA GTG!!! That would be amaaaazing. You’d all love it here, and duskymonkey and I would take care to make sure everyone had a wonderful time and regularly had access to delicious food! I’m not going anywhere - and countries in this region are starting to reduce the quarantine time as more and more people get the vaccine. We could be quarantine free in 2022, which would be awesome!

CoachTsWife Happy early 100th birthday to your Grandma!!! What an exciting milestone for your family to celebrate with her, and I am so glad that you were able to get the visitation slots. I hear you on it being a bummer that you cannot give her a hug or bring the boys along, but I am also thankful that you will be able to spend some time with her in person. What wonderful news!! August Blooms I’m glad you’re likening the new job, and wohoo to the treadmill arriving! I was thinking the tourism industry must have been hit super hard in CR. DH and I were just talking about how CR is kind of like the Thailand of Central America - kind/welcoming people, great food, beautiful scenery, warm weather, and dependent on tourism for a significant part of the economy. We can’t wait to go back and take our boys to the Osa. I hope their industry recovers this year - it’s such a wonderful place. curmudgeon Noooooo to the lip balm on the wall!! 😱😱😱. How are the piano lessons going for DS1? My DS1 is still really enjoying them - he just learned Old McDonald and London Bridge. So cute! duskymonkey If you go to Langkawi, come over to this side of the border and hit up Koh Lipe too! Maybe we can meet up! Seriously - if you are in either place in the future, I could definitely try to swing a vaycay down south. Would be awesome to meet you in person! Fantastic news about your parents and H getting the vaccine soon too! Wohoo! danvers How nice that your brother and SIL got to visit and have fun with the girls. Awesome news about your vaccine too! It’s so uplifting to hear about people getting vaccinated. Hardly anyone has over here, but it makes me happy to know that supply is starting ramp up in the USA!

I’ve been MIA - can’t believe it’s already getting near the middle of March! I ended up being sucked into a couple of books that I started reading on vacation, so all of my spare time was devoted to finishing those the past few weeks. They were pretty long - wish I had more time to devote to reading, but with the kids and work, I don’t read as much as I used to be able to.
I have happy vaccine news to report - my Dad, step-dad, sister, and BIL received their first vaccination shot (Pfizer) last week. Wohoo! We’re getting more and more confident that we’ll be able to head home this summer for a visit (and be vaccinated at like a Walgreens or something), as the vaccines seem to be more available! Since the kids will be too young to be vaccinated, we’ll still unfortunately need to quarantine at a government approved hotel for at least 10 days upon our return from the USA, but 10 days is a lot more manageable than the 16 days it currently is.
The only thing that worries me is about people in the states easing up on restrictions too soon, which will let the variants run wild and result in vaccine resistant strains still spreading. If the daily infection rates stay in the 60-70K range, I just don’t know if we can come back, because if our kids test positive for COVID during quarantine over here, they are sent to a hospital isolation ward. Nobody is permitted to ride out COVID at home in this country, and I can’t imagine having either of my boys in the hospital for possibly weeks until they test negative COVID. That would be horrible.
Sooooo...fingers crossed the infection rate goes down, so we can visit this summer and mitigate the risk of our boys catching the virus. Fingers crossed for the #s to significantly fall. 🤞🤞

I was able to schedule my H's first vaccine (Pfizer) for this Friday. In our state teachers have just been added to the eligibility so I'm relieved about that.
