Dr Seuss days aren't a thing here. I am surprised at all the Dr Seuss theme days, I thought that there has been some movement on weaning him out/cancelling over his racism? I want to believe this is why ours is renamed, but the week is still centered around themes of his books. Since I’ve learned about it, it definitely has turned me off.

I think dapostophe is on FB although she doesn't post much. I wonder if they are still married. I remember her talking about them having some problems and thinking about divorcing. I think I remember this from some point, but the last she was here I thought they were contemplating a move to the west coast. I think her H was up for a job there.

Maybe dapostrophe isn't who I was thinking. It doesn't seem like she posts much. She recently changed her last name from an actual name to 2 letters and is fostering dogs. I could have the 2 totally mixed up though...I'm terrible with names!

re:theme days - it's Suess week here too. Today was dress in as many colors as you can. Hat day is tomorrow. I am quite frankly tired of theme days. It seems like we have a week every other week. slenle - Yikes! But yay for the negative (as long as thats what you were hoping for...lol). And I would totally make him go. Schedule it for him and tell him you have a surprise outing/date for him planned. I am back to work today! It feels good to have a purpose in life besides mom-ing after 3 months off work. And the pay check will feel even better. Lol. I have deleted a gazillion emails because they don't turn my email off while I am furloughed. Annoying. Tonight S has speech therapy and I need to pull together stuff for taxes later this week for our appt with our accountant.

I'm mixed on the Dr. Suess issue. Personally, I've always loved his books and enjoyed reading them growing up. I wasn't aware until later years about his racist cartoons. However, his work demonstrated that his thinking and beliefs likely evolved with time. Stuff like The Sneetches, Yertle the Turtle, and The Lorax have very positive social messages that can still teach kids good messages today.
I expect that the vast majority of white people born in his era were racist. I don't view it the same as I do people being racist in modern times. I don't know if he made clear a change of view, but his work seems to indicate it and I think that's worth recognizing because if racism were a lifelong trait that can't be changed that'd be pretty damning for society.
Do I think he needs to be celebrated? No. Do I still enjoy his works and hope that he changed his beliefs over time? Yes. And the fact that he's dead so even if he were still a dick in the end none of my money is going his way makes a difference to me too. I try to spend consciously but I admit to still enjoying a Michael Jackson jam from time to time...but knowing MJ isn't profiting from it alleviates guilt.

Morning! Josie’s teacher sent out her weekly newsletter last night. And she just threw on there that they are celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday by wearing Dr. Seuss inspired costumes. So as soon as I drop Charlie off, I’m running to the party store to see what they have available. Otherwise same old over here. I hate when they do that stuff last minute. Esp in these times when many of us are not comfortable running from store to store Yes, I agree. I try to give her a pass bc I know she’s overwhelmed, but I did get annoyed this time. Make it an activity where they make Seuss hats out of paper plates.

I just got word that Cadence is supposed to dress up like an old lady on Wednesday for the 100th day of school. Not so exciting when we know she's been sitting for remote school for 100 days. But of course, she wants to dress up, so I'll have to add that to my already hectic morning.
Our party store is not party city, but a dumpy second cousin. I did get a stripped hat ala the cat and Kohl’s had a t-shirt with the characters on it. Good enough!

I did get uncomfortable a year or two back when my friends - who are normally super left leaning - were excusing his blatant racism towards Asians, etc. We were talking about a mural at the museum in our home town - it was blatantly racist. Those leanings may have been common but those biases had serious impacts on generations. I think it's important to acknowledge that sort of thing vs. sweeping it under the rug. But my kids love the books, especially the Butter Battle Book and the Lorax, so I acknowledge the personal growth as well.

Oh no I know this, I was just saying that while renaming it is good, they still incorporate his themes and book into the week here at M’s school.

Busy busy today. Work was a bit nuts and my house was being painted. She will be here tomorrow to do the rest but I am loving it! I’ll post pics when it’s done.
Today is also Marty’s birthday (the baby cat). He’s 2. So we had a little party. Hitting episode 2 of the Elisa Lam documentary will be the excitement of the night.

Congratulations chrisy01!! Now, let’s talk about your 700 unread emails 😳 I have 7 email accounts on this phone. All the unread are junk emails I haven’t reviewed. I get about 300 emails a day and haven’t been staying on top of the junk emails like I normally do. It’s now down to 300 if that is any better
