Eh, I've said my piece on Arya before. I don't like her at the moment. Lady Mormont continues to be amazing. That autopsying Maester was James Broadbent - aka Horace Slughorn. I spent his whole scene trying to determine this. Also? The Citadel needs to be less gross. Same!! I kept thinking, Is that...Professor Slughorn? Yes? no? Yes! I was dying laughing during that whole gross montage. So awful at the same time.

Okay but what was worse, Ed Sheeran or nasty citadel? I found the Ed scene more obnoxious. Way too heavy handed. And he was like a contest winner in that scene. Did not blend at all. I did wonder why they didn't even change his hair or try to make him look slightly different.

That cold open kicked ass. I need this season to not be boring.

I felt like this episode gave a nice catch up to where we are and where things are going. However with a limited season it was really blah.

5 minutes in, and 50 people have died. Sounds about right. "Mild violence" It was mild. They keeled over.

I agree. I don't remember the band they featured before, but it was so much more subtle. This was like bam! Of Monsters And Men? I wouldn't have even known they were in it at all except that I follow their fb page. There have been several musicians from decently well known bands. My fave being sigur ros playing the rains of castamere before Joffrey gets it. But every last one was more subtle than this awkwardness.

I'm a little late, but I agree that the gift will probably be Tyrion. He's with Yara and Theon, so Euron would be able to get revenge on them at the same time.

I liked it as an opening episode. It sucks it's a very limited season, so I do hope things progress quickly.

I had the German embarrassment for Ed the entire time he was on screen. It was fine when he was singing and they hadn't yet shown his sweaty milk jug face. I'm not even an Ed-hater.

Yeah I don't see Euron capturing Tyrion. If he does, that's it for Tyrion. I just don't see that happening, it wouldn't make sense for that to happen to him after everything. But GOT, breaking hearts and all. So who knows. I know cersei basically has a cold dead heart but Euron bringing her some traitor sand snake ladies would make her pretty damn happy.

I'm not guaranteeing Euron and his magic hands will be successful. I'm just putting my money on him being the intended gift.

I'm sure you have had enough of my crankiness, but now that the season-opener adrenaline has worn off, here are my final musings.
What worked: The opener. I don't think it will stand out in memory as one of the best mass killing or revenge moments, but it was satisfying, especially after watching Arya do jack shit for like 12 seasons.
Tormound flirting with Brienne. At least someone had a personality in this episode.
The giant white walker. Cool!
The maester's smug little rant about how zombies are no biggie. Interesting perspective and explains why the maesters haven't been that helpful in westoros affairs.
What didn't: There was no energy or tension for me. Everyone just seemed to be there to move the plot along. The most disappointing was Cersei and Jamie. We had Cersei growing increasingly bitter and angry last season, ready to watch the world burn. Now Jamie has come home to find the city blown to shit, his last child dead, and the woman he loves a bitter shell of a person. There should have been fireworks! A clash! Instead, Jamie blandly asks her questions and she answers like she's only there so she won't get fined. Then she's like "alright, let me set up the euron shit since that scene is next"
But the hound stuff also read that way. Yay, the hound! Ooh. He's just here to read another friggin prophecy into the camera. Oh.
John's meeting with the northern lords felt like a lot of conference calls I have attended.
The chamber pots sequence at the citadel didn't work for me. I think they were going for the kind of sequences that frequently happen on like breaking bad. But BB and GOT are two totally different shows. BB is a slow boil drama that focuses on a few characters. GOT is a huge universe that succeeds best with large spectacle sequences. This ate up a lot of time for a series that needs to wrap up possibly THE END OF THE WORLD this season.
Sansa's like "I know what little finger wants". Omg, what? Please tell me? Because I lost the plot on him after Cat died. Now I think he just schemes because he can't break the habit.
The ed sing-along. In the season premiere of the final season, this was an insulting inclusion.
That's it for now! Hoping for more excitement next week.

theseaword - Littlefinger wants Sansa, I thought? I do not understand his long game, though, I don't know. Maybe? He loved her mom, but maybe now her, but then he gave her to Ramsay! Does not compute for me. He could have destroyed her, killed her, or just not died and been married to her for forty years. Reckless scheming if all he wants to do is bang Sansa. He's clever, but not magic or psychic. Dumb plan, fella.

I love Ed, but that scene pulled me out of the story. It wasn't GOT anymore; it was a pop star, Maisie, and some other dudes who looked as wonky as Ed just filling time on the screen.

Doesn't Euron have Dragonbinder? Maybe he'll try to gift a dragon to Cersei. That could help with battle and hurt Dany too. It could probably be done at more of a distance versus if he were to try and get Tyrion, for example. I don't recall if they've mentioned dragonbinder thus far and idk if they'd want to introduce at this point, but it's more of a twist.

I think Littlefinger wants Sansa, but not more than the throne. In terms of his grand plan, I feel like the writers are having trouble working him into the story in a deep meaning way. He wants the throne? Okay. What's new? I don't see any big plays being made. He's going to try and drive a wedge between Jon and Sansa, not surprising. He doesn't evoke the emotions he did for me like in the first few seasons.

Yes, but in the books didn't he have a dragon horn, which is said to be able to control dragons? I could see him either having this artifact or finding it and attempting to capture Tryion.

The problem is that in order for littlefinger to be clever, the writers have to be clever. Did JRR pull it off in the confined story of season 1? Yup! Do I have confidence that the writers of GOT will be able to pull it off over the whole course of the series? NOPE! These are the same writers that let the whole Arya House of Black and White plot fall apart. Clever they are not. They should just have Sansa kill him off now, so we can get our cheap "you go girl" satisfaction and they will be off the hook.

Yes, but in the books didn't he have a dragon horn, which is said to be able to control dragons? I could see him either having this artifact or finding it and attempting to capture Tryion. He claims to have a horn in the books but it's unclear whether the one he shows the Kingsmoot is real or not. He gives it to Victarion (who doesn't exist in the show) when Victarion goes to take on Dany in Meereen. In the show, it was Yara/Asha and Theon who went to Meereen instead and they don't seem to have the horn, so... no idea if this is just a thread they've dropped. The siege of Meereen hasn't even happened in the books yet, Victarion JUST got there, but I don't think he's the type to just have a little chat with Dany like Yara and Theon did. There's a fan theory that the wall in the North has an ice dragon in it and that Mance Rayder was looking for the Horn of Winter because it could "bring down the wall" (e.g. control the dragon in the wall and wake it up) but just theory really. Not enough evidence to rely on.

I really hope there is an ice dragon in the wall. I will overlook a lot of dumb fuckery for a goddamn ice dragon busting out of the goddamn wall.

I thought it was clear. He wants power. He wants that through marrying Sansa. A marriage between Sansa and him would unite House Stark and House Arryn. It would also give Peter a title which he has been lusting after.
