Everyone I know who has a Garmin Forerunner loves it. I'm leaning that way but could get a crazy deal on a Suunto Spartan Ultra. Anyone have a Spartan or Garmin? Or care to review your fav?
I liked like to track HR, pace, etc. the usual. I do not want to have to take my phone with me. I do use my Fitbit to wake up by vibration to not wake anyone else with my alarm, but I think I'll do less of that now that my new job has different hours. If I need to, I'll probably charge my new watch overnight and wear the Fitbit to bed. I hope to start swimming more this winter so water resistant would be a plus. I also like the Fitbit app. It allows me to track macros (although not precisely) by scanning labels etc. and then estimate calories burned changing caloric intake guides for my goals. I really just found this function two weeks ago, but I like it. Not sure if Garmin or Suunto have apps that they sync with that do the same.
I like that the forerunner auto syncs because despite my efforts to workout, I'm kinda lazy. But loading maps into the Spartan would be great since I enjoy getting lost and seeing the sites.
TIA

I'm Garmin fo lyf. I wear a vivoactive as my everyday watch and use a 920XT for workouts. It's triathlon specific and kicks serious ass tracking pool workouts. It completely rejuvenated my love of swimming. Does a good job tracking in open water too. You can pick them up for pretty cheap all things considered, given Garmin just released the 735 which is the new triathlon watch that is $$$$.
The Garmin connect app does food tracking and you can link it directly to MFP so they share calorie information back and forth automatically whenever you enter things on either app. You can enter food on garmin connect too if ypu want it consolidated to only one app. Workouts upload as soon you end and save them.

Anyone go from a 235 to a 920/XT or do some serious consideration between the two? I'm no triathlete, but pool capability would be nice though not essential and I don't even own a bike. The price difference is like $50-$75, which is enough for me to possibly go with the 235. Is the difference really just the multi-sport capacity? I've looked at a bunch of reviews/comparisons and that's my take away. Can I get away with using it as an everyday watch? Either one? I guess I know I could but it seems many people don't. cnf you use it just for training, my two other friends with them use other watches for daily use as well. What's your reasoning? I know one friend is all about his Apple Watch but prefers something run specific for training.

I know one friend is all about his Apple Watch but prefers something run specific for training. Google search both watches and DC Rain Maker Review. He is considered the gold standard for workout tech gear reviews. Garmin also makes swim only watches and you can hook as many watches to a Garmin connect account as you want. The Garmin 910 was the tri watch prior to the 920 and is likely cheaper if you're looking to still save a few bucks but have swim capabilities and running all on one watch. I wore my 920 as my everyday watch for a few years. I got a vivoactive for basically free though so I opted to swap day watches since it's smaller. That's really the only reason. The Apple watch only tracks gps running if you also carry your phone, which is why a lot of people still opt for a running watch too.
