I watched Crash Landing on You and enjoyed it a lot. Started Start Up but am getting bored after a few episodes. I’d love some recommendations.

I have watched...a large amount of k-dramas over the last few years. What genre are you interested in? That will help me narrow down some suggestions.

I am watching that (crash landing) now and really enjoying it! I am not "good" at watching TV. I am always doing something else while TV is on like playing on my phone, doing puzzles or crosswords, so it's forcing me to actually watch and pay attention to read the subtitles.

Oh, hello! Asian dramas are my primary source of tv watching. I can never remember what's available and where, but It's okay not to be okay is current and really good.
My all time favorite is Slave Hunters (also called Chuno), which is sometimes available but I don't think it is right now. If you get a chance to watch you should. It's also the kdrama they talk about in Crash Landing on You.

I enjoy the goofy comedies and fantasy ones. Basically I will try a few episodes of most of the ones on Netflix and sometimes I get sucked into watching more and sometimes I don't. But I really enjoy many of them

I have a lot on my list but haven't sat down to actually watch them.
The one I did finish: Sky Castle
I really loved this and it helped give me a better understanding of the cultural aspect in regards to education/studying and the pressures kids face due to the push of scores to get into schools. This k-drama did a great job hitting on a majority of angles of it: parents, kids, adults who were pressured and felt unfulfilled, etc. You will need a big box of tissues and it may be triggering due to mention of death/suicide in it.

I’m the same but in reverse. After so many years of primarily watching kdrama (plus a couple Chinese dramas) I find American tv so boring since I don’t have to focus on subtitles and the picture. It has to be really good to hold my attention.

One of my all time favorites is “you’re beautiful” it’s old now and I’m not sure if it’s still on Netflix or not. But I loved it so much lol

Also I read that the leads of Crash Landing on You (Hyun Bin and Ye-jin Son) are dating IRL and I am here for it.

Itaewon Class was really good.
I’m self-studying Korean these days so I call watching dramas listening practice 😅

Itaewon Class was really good. I’m self-studying Korean these days so I call watching dramas listening practice 😅 I’m kind of partial to this one myself. I live in Itaewon and they filmed the whole thing about 2 blocks away from my apartment. We were in the alley in the Halloween scene, I think it might have been episode 2? I keep trying to search for myself in case I was in the background in that sene. No luck though. At about the 44 minute mark, Su Ah describes the neighborhood and she is so spot on. It is so quirky and fun here, street parties all the time. The New Year’s Eve street party in episode 3, btw, wasn’t really New Years Eve. That was filmed in the fall at the electronic music festival.

I just started Reply 1997 but am only half an episode in. I was a big H.O.T fan back in high school, so it seems like a good fit.

We also call DD2 Bo-ra after one of the characters. The main parents are played by the same actors in all 3 of them and it’s fun. We make random animal noises as transitions sounds too. It never fails to crack me up if we have a pause in something and one of my kids goes “baaaaaa”. A lot of people are partial to Replay 1997 because it was the first one, but they are all good.

How long have you lived there?

I think you said you're not a Korean speaker, did you move there for work? How long have you lived there? Yes, that’s me on GBCN, too. We’ve been here for 2.5 years so far. We came on a two year contract and extended it another two years. I hope we can stay longer but that’s not very likely. I’m here on an accompanying spouse visa—my husband runs a division of an U.S. based company. He does not speak much Korean but he has an interpreter at work. I speak enough Korean to order in a restaurant and give directions to cab drivers. My daughter is 14 and is picking it up very quickly so we make her do a lot of the talking for us. Are you thinking of coming here? If you have any more questions, I would be happy to give you more info.

4speedy No plans to move anywhere. I'm a nurse and DH's company is not international so we're staying here. I just put it together today that you're the same! I had seen you post about living there but didn't know the backstory and was curious. It's great for your DD to be able to pick up the language and have chance to live abroad. DH's cousin was a Korean interpreter in the military for many years so was stationed in Korea.
