TTMA about the next steps.
DS1 is turning six soon and weighs 50lbs. He rides in a FF Diono radian right now.
I’m going to keep him in the radian as long as I can, but pretty soon his shoulders are going to be taller than the headrest allows for.
What’s next? I know there are high back boosters. Do those all only work with a seatbelt or is there such a thing as a high back booster with a five point harness? Any recommendations for brands or models?
Thanks!

J is 6 and like 70lbs, he has been in a Britax Frontier clicktight for awhile - it is a high backed 5 pt harness booster. It is super easy to install and has 2 cupholders. You can use the 5pt harness until 90lbs. We have 2 of these and I'm about to buy a 3rd for M, since she is outgrowing her seat and I'm not ready to take J out of the harness yet.
ETA you can also transition this seat to be used as a high backed booster without the harness after 90lbs, it works for up to 120 lbs with the seatbelt.

We use a graco nautilus for that stage. Converts from 5 pt to HBB and then even to no back I think (but no back ones are cheap). It comes in a few different weight limits/trim lines. I think they call these "combination seats".
P is 4.5 and has no ability to unbuckle herself or try to learn it. So come next fall if school buses are still not a thing, shes going to have to move to booster. blah.

Nugget has the Britax frontier as well and it's great and super easy to install, although they are a bit pricey.

We have a britax frontier too for J. He is 6.5 and around 68 lbs. and is still in the 5 pt harness.

Britax's combination seat is now called the grow with you. I just got that for S (3.5). The clicktight makes for a super easy install. My older two (6 and 8) use evenflow amp boosters. They can be used with or without the back and both use them backless most of the time. N (6) will use the back for long rides where he might get tired and want to lean against the side. They move their boosters from car to car depending on what we're taking. S has a Graco slim fit in our other car.
