The US' parental leave laws make me so sad and angry. COME TO CANADA EVERYONE 😀😀😀😀
MH and I kind of got into a disagreement of sorts. We never fight but the last 2 weekends he's gone out for drinks with friends and tonight he said he's meeting a friend downtown for dinner and drinks. Next weekend he is going away for his brothers bachelor party as well. IMO everyone deserves time to go out with their friends and I would never say no you can't go, but I'm just over here like helloooo what about me? I wouldn't mind getting dressed up and going to a fancy restaurant! But NOPE he's putting on his nice suit and going out with a buddy. Someone tell me I'm not being that irrational hormonal pregnant lady

Hi all! I am fortunate that my Fortune 100 company has decent leave policies. I'll get my STD (2w before my EDD of 2/21 and 6w after), plus I get 4 weeks of leave before tapping into my vacation (that I'm rolling from this year) and using LWOP. I anticipate being out from ~ 2/5 through about 9/10. I'll still be paid through about 5/16 and then take 4mo of unpaid. I'm trying to time it all with my course work for my MBA too to get my company to pay for as much as possible. So I've got it down to a science. I am so jealous of your pre-EDD STD! Going to work past my due date suuuuuucked. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Well damn. There was a mix up at the MFM and I didn't actually have an appt scheduled today. I told DH I am 100% sure they told me it was today b/c we are going on vacation next week, so that would require figuring out something different. But, it is next Friday. It is just crappy timing because the MFM is switching offices and their equipment wasn't even set up so they couldn't just do a quick scan on me or anything. The nurses I talked to were really sweet, one of them kept giving me hugs.
There was just miscommunication all around b/c my local OB had told me they were sending the images to MFM to see what they thought and if they wanted to see me. So I was also under the impression the MFM saw something troublesome on the images but all they saw were the doc's notes.

aprilz81 ashburn I think we can all agree that our parental leave policies in the US need help. We fall behind every single other developed country in the world. The point of the article was to point out that LBGT parents often have a more difficult time for a number of reasons. From just plain ignorance making a hostile work environment to legal struggles due to states not recognizing the non birth parent as a legal relative of the child at all. When DS was born it took almost a year to get my wife's name on his birth certificate. Thankfully her employer gave her leave anyway. If a child is born through a sperm donor to a married straight couple, the father is legally recognized as the husband of the birth mother because they are married. Even if he is not the bio Dad. That's not the case for LGBT couples. In many cases, the non biological parent needs to adopt the child. Even if the LGBT couple is married. So it's absolutely hard for everyone but LGBT couples definitely face different struggles. To quote the article directly: "Taking leave from work to welcome a new child isn’t easy for a lot of parents — and LGBT families often have to navigate policies that were designed with cisgender, straight couples in mind. The US is one of a handful of nations that doesn’t mandate any paid parental leave. When employers do provide paid time, it’s frequently funded through short-term disability policies that only cover parents who give birth. Adoptive parents of any gender often get less time to bond with their new additions. Under a federal law called the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), employers over a certain size have to provide 12 weeks of unpaid job-protected leave, though not all employees are eligible. The law states that someone who acts “in loco parentis” — i.e. takes on the responsibilities of parenting — is eligible for leave, even if they don’t have a biological or legal relationship with the child." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Sorry I missed your original point on this. Its just insane to me that anyone including married/single/LGBT/cis etc people everyone in the US is getting screwed, obviously there are additional struggles that LGBT couples face that others don't. Just everything surrounding parental leave in this country needs to be fixed for the benefit for all involved.

I would call and have them sent over again.

Just got back the results for my genetic screening and everything looks great! Apparently the test my doc uses doesn't do sex so we'll have to wait until I'm 20 weeks. I'm kind of bummed.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last time we did an elective 3D scan outside of the office. I think the package was about $125-150 and included a long ultrasound, a bunch of pictures, a DVD of the ultrasound and a Build-a-Bear animal with the baby's recorded heartbeat. We made that our reveal party and our parents and siblings attended the actual ultrasound with us. The rooms are big and have couches and big tvs on the wall so everyone can see. We did ours at 15 weeks if I remember correctly and they "guarantee" results after 13 or 14. If they can't determine you get a free ultrasound at a later date. It was neat! We will probably do a similar package later in this pregnancy (we will have lots of scans due to Ava's issues so we will find out before 20 weeks) for the keepsake of 3D pictures when the baby doesn't look like a lizard/alien baby.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Maybe I'm being super naive about this since I don't have any close friends or family that are LBGT, but I think that the parent who is not giving birth (father, non childbearing mother, etc.) are frowned upon by taking leave no matter what the situation is. It is WRONG and I wish it weren't so but I still don't see how that makes it a LBGT situation. It is something that affects any parent that doesn't physically give birth. I see it more if two gay men adopt or do surrogacy because it is more "unexpected" (poor word choice but I don't know what would be more appropriate) that a father take extended leave for the birth of a child. Please know I mean no offense and I'm trying to understand.

Honestly at this point I would take ANYTHING since I get zip. Government employees are said to have such wonderful benefits and health insurance but in actuality that is not the case. I wonder if that depends on where in government you work? My husband is military & he gets 10 days off when the baby comes. If deployed, well sorry lol. I think they just increased the amount of mat leave women in the military get, but I still don't think it's much.

I don't think this is a LGBT vs straight issue as much as it is an issue about leave policies in general. I get two weeks paid leave from my company, then 4 weeks short term disability (paid out at 60% of my salary, but it isn't taxed so it is almost what I normally take home). If I take more than that it is unpaid for up to an additional 6 weeks. My husband only gets one week "bonding time" before he has to go back to work or take vacation time. Fathers/non childbearing spouses usually don't get "full maternity/paternity" benefits. MH was told he could take 4 days unpaid leave when I had our son. He didn't end up taking any time off. I gave birth Monday evening and he returned to work Tuesday at 4 am.

I was so glad too bc I wasn't sure if I would know contractions were real (and for good reason lol I was having them for like 12 hours before I realized what they were haha). So once my water broke it really ramped up & then I knew I was in labor. But I was at home so that was nice. It didn't really make a mess either though.

Also, in the packet she gave me, there were some facts about delivery. I am irrationally excited that they allow drinking liquids and having snacks during delivery. I get very anxious and crabby when I don't have enough water, and bring water with me EVERYWHERE. Before even getting a BFP I worried about laboring without being able to drink or eat. I felt so much relief after reading that I would be allowed! (Assuming all is going well during delivery of course). Are you a ftm? I was never restricted with fluids during labor, just no food. I was allowed water, ice chips, and even apple juice and popsicles.

It's the little things lol ETA- meaning two other women had babies lol not my babies

MH will get two weeks paid leave when our LO is born. With G he had schedule his vacation for the week I was due in the hopes that I would deliver that week. She came 10 days before my due date so his paternity leave ran into his vacation and continued after. He got almost three weeks off because of it. Through fmla he could have take paid sick time for more time off if needed. I am thankful he works for the city and his union is very strong. With this one I am hoping he can schedule his vacation week for the first week of the year and then take paternity for the rest of the time we need just like last time.

I wasn't allowed anything besides ice chips for my labor 😞I would have done anything for some apple juice! I went a long time without eating which made me so tired when it came time to push but it was better that way since I was throwing up during my pushing. I woke up at 12:50am the day I delivered. I had a yogurt at 3:30am because I was hungry and couldn't sleep. My water broke at 4am. I delivered at 1:33pm and didn't eat anything until almost 4. I was hangry and stressed by then.

I also had a two day induction, and I was sneaking doughnuts the whole time. Ice chips and broth do not cut it when your body is basically running a marathon.

I made a big stink beforehand about being allowed to eat but I didn't even think about during labor. The first 12 hours after I was admitted (after not sleeping at all the night before because of contractions at home, I was too uncomfortable. Once I got my epidural I was too tired and slept most of the time till I started pushing.

With DD I was induced and my labor lasted 13 hours. I was really hungry about 4 hours in, but a few hours later I started puking. So probably a good thing I didn't have more in my stomach.
With ds I ate at 10 am at home and got to the hospital at 1p. ds was born by 5:54 pm, so food wasn't on my mind until after he was out anyway.
