I really don’t want to fly on that plane. I don’t know what to do once travel is allowed again but I think I’m going to be looking at plane types when I book flights. It wasn’t the 737Max, it was a 26 year old 737-500.

I don’t think this was a 737 max. The regular 737s are considered quite safe and were never grounded. You appear to be correct, 737-500. I still don't trust it.

But this wasn't the 737 Max, it was the older version, which is not known for having problems. I think I heard fairly recently that tha Max has been cleared again by the FAA, but the EU has not cleared it yet? ETA: should have refreshed before posting, you guys were already on this

737s have long been safe - God, I hate these crashes. The Maxes scare me but I guess yay no air travel for a good long while, thanks pandemic for taking that particular anxiety spiral off my to-do list!

I don’t think this was a 737 max. The regular 737s are considered quite safe and were never grounded. It wasn't the new generation 737 max plane, per the article. "The Sriwijaya Air flight appears to have been carried out by a Boeing 737-500," writes BBC business correspondent Theo Leggett. "This plane formed part of the 737 Classic series, the second generation of 737, which was built during the 1980s and 1990s. The plane, seen as a workhorse aircraft for many years, has a strong safety record." He said the aircraft shouldn't be confused with the more modern 737 Max, which was grounded after two fatal accidents in 2018 and 2019.

Can’t lie-when the morning news interrupted itself with breaking news, a missing/crashed plane was no where on the list of possibilities that ran through my brain.

Yeah, throughout this pandemic I have had to pick up 90% of the extra childcare work for our kids even though I both work more hours and earn more than DH. It's not his fault- my employer is super flexible and understanding and his is not, but still. I reduced my hours in October because it was clear this 2nd wave was coming and I just couldn't keep up anymore. I'm bitter about it. Not at DH, just at the world in general. My CEO actually reached out to me this fall to ask how I was doing, because of stories about how women are largely having to take on the bulk of parenting during the pandemic. It’s a *thing* for sure.

So can we discuss this? I know it's kind of Covid related, but it's more wide reaching, so I didn't want to put it in that thread. I know we've discussed it before, but the lasting effect on women in the workforce is going to be astronomical. I will add to this that white women gained jobs. BIPOC women lost jobs. The inequities continue to compound. The reports on this for BIPOC women in MN are astounding.

Connie’s H is calling for Cruz and ‘blow dried Cruz*’ to resign and if they won’t said the senate must expel them
Stolen from psa Also his statement is much more eloquent

And more evidence of the systemic problems we need to deal with as a country.

@crimsonclover I’m very much in the same boat and I tend to take it out on H (I know it’s not his fault). I wfh full time and he’s in the store so anytime something pops up I’m the default to deal with the bulk of it. I was absolutely miserable when DS1 was quarantined trying to work with both kids home and do my job.
I’ve often talked about resigning but I know I would be angry and bitter and I don’t want my kids and H to bear the brunt of that.

Not the biggest deal in the world but there’s a kerfuffle over VP Elect’s Vogue cover. It seems this is not the photo agreed to with her team. It also looks like a test shot and doesn’t do her justice. A thread.

So I deal with seeing the effect of this on the job economy every day in my job and I can 100% say this is true. And I only see one county’s data where 85% of the population is white.

In the grand scheme of things, a vogue cover is so low, but dude, she looks like she’s doing a test smile and it’s not even that fashionable of an outfit, outside of her token chucks. I’m frustrated for her because it seems like a lame way to undercut her.
