We’ve been doing this at work since March. What does everyone typically wear? Actually under a PAPR we don't typically wear masks 😬 PAPRs are in short supply though so the norm is N95, surgical mask, and face shield. ETA: That's only on the COVID unit, in regular ICU it's just surgical mask and eye protection or face shield. Why not just wear the n95 all the time with patients? Didn’t you guys have someone get exposed because they didn’t know a patient was positive yet?

All this talk of double masking has me in a panic spiral. People here don't fucking wear one mask let alone two. My mom gave me a 5 pack of KN95s that I've been saving in case one of us has a positive or close contact. I havent tried them out yet. Now I'm wondering if I should get more. These are what I wound up ordering. They are one of the few KN95s that have emergency FDA approval. www.officedepot.com/a/products/6528612/Powecom-KN95-Face-Masks-Adult-One/

All providers at the hospital have them on and most of the docs in regular offices do too now

If anyone gets real N95 masks, send them to one of the nurses on here that don't have enough n95s and keep using the same one for half a year or more. Gosh it shouldn't be like that after a year.

Do you know what the green striped ones are considered? Maybe the equivalent of a KN95? Those are what we wear when we have a covid patient with a surgical mask on top. Our N95s are only allowed if we do an aerosolizing procedure 😕 I've always wondered what the deal with the green striped ones was, our residents and OT/ST/PT always have those!! I actually thought they were cloth, I know nothing about them. Do they keep your N95s locked up or what? We have ours in an equipment room. I would probably wear mine all the time w/ a COVID pt but not count it as one of my 5 shifts I'm allowed to wear it before replacing it or something. I wear mine on code calls and RRT calls but I don't count it as one of my 5 shifts. I'm actually still rocking my original one from October 🤢 Do you guys get face shields or goggles? They are disposable but they are thicker and filtered, and they have wires so they are more fitted around your face. So I guess better than a surgical mask but not as good as an N95. We have all been issued one N95 that we keep but we were basically told not to use them. I'm honestly considering just wearing mine when I have a covid patient 🤷🏻♀️ I usually work 4 hour shifts so it would last longer anyway. We have goggles for non covid patients and face shields for covid patients. We can wear the shield anytime but they suck so we all use goggles.

We're supposed to wear our N95 for 5 COVID unit shifts. I probably could wear it on the regular unit, but it wouldn't count as one of my 5 shifts, and they wear out - multiple nurses have gotten COVID from having their N95 straps break while they were performing CPR on a COVID patient.
I don't know, it all sucks and I just try to suppress it as much as I can. The great news is that now I'm 100% vaccinated so I feel really confident about my safety now even with shitty PPE standards but I feel terrible for the people who have been putting up with this bullshit since March.

I would (and do) just wear it all the time. I don’t think I’m following how it’s being tracked.

If they want to sure but I don't think anyone should feel bad about using them for themselves now. You can buy them online and many health officials are recommending this

I wish we could wear them all the time because it definitely happens. Plus on my unit they are allowed a support person who is not tested so who fucking knows how many of them might have it 😫

It is such a relief to at least finally be vaccinated dealing with this. I'm only a week out from my 2nd dose so I dont think I'm 100% yet but it made my anxiety a lot better when I had a covid patient this week. I do still worry I could potentially pass it to my family since that seems to be the unknown still.

MH is a grocery worker and they aren't even on our state's vaccine rollout plan yet 😕 so now I can just redirect all of my anxiety squarely on him, lol. Speaking of which, I should buy him an N95.

My grandma got her first shot today! I feel like I’m one step closer to getting to hug her again.
She is a huge believer in public health and has been her whole life. Her kids were the first in her county to get the polio vaccine because she was so insistent on them getting it done. She is so happy showing off her card.

I worry about my DH too. We're hoping he may be able to get one as "ag" so tier 2? But who knows. None of his coworkers wear masks. He's the only one who does. And then of course the kids are back in school full time now 😫 At least they require masks I guess. ETA: would grocery workers be included in tier 2 as essential employees in food? Because they freaking should.

Is it ok to wear kn95s for a few days? I work retail (though not grocery). I had been wearing cloth masks, but with the new variants and numbers surging, I switched to KN 95s, but have been trying to stretch out the usage to 5 days since they are expensive. Do those UV disinfecting units work well enough to get more life out of the masks?
FTR, all of my coworkers wear masks all the time, before we even walk in the building (except at lunch, when we are all in separate rooms), but the amount of noses I see from customers still has me on edge.

WTF. Grocery stores are more essential than restaurants. FFS.

My household (minus the 5 yo, who goes very, very few places) has been in KN95s for a while because MH is high-risk. We wear them anytime we will be inside somewhere. (and I had no idea there were kids' KF94s so thanks for that tip brux ) Rotating them should help extend the life. Put today's mask in a paperbag when you take it off. Wear another one tomorrow and then switch back. Since we don't go to a physical place to work- I generally wear mine for multiple small outings. I do discard mine after doctor's appointments. Otherwise- they actually start feeling...less sturdy?...and that's when I switch. Each of us has had one break on us as well. I wouldn't say that's super common because it has been months and months of this. I now keep a backup in my purse now, still in the wrapper.

We have KN95s from Amazon for kids. The brand is Lytio. I can't for whatever reason link the Amazon stuff.
My daughter wears them to her allergist appointments and they seem pretty good.

I’m trying to decide if my Covid has morphed into a sinus infection....has anyone else experienced this? I’m on day 10 of symptoms, but my only symptoms now are a nasty sinus headache and no taste and smell.

I’m at the trial that cribs is participating in. I’m about to get my injection. I’m so excited to be part of the solution.

Not personally, but MIL, FIL, and BIL were all treated for sinus infections during their COVID also. Guess the doctors figured it couldn’t hurt?

Thank you! I’m trying to decide if it’s worth going in or just ride it out. Telehealth? I may try that. I’d really prefer not to go in to the office.
