I was accepted into the novovax trial. Science-y people, what are your thoughts? I have asthma. It’s very mild. This is why they asked me—they need asthmatics.
1. I have no clue when SC/NC will get it together for me to get a vaccine, though I am in the next group in both states. I would imagine May/June would be the earliest. 2. I’ve never had vaccine reactions. 3. I am for sure not having any more babies. 4. 66% of participants receive the vaccine 5. There are some perks to being in the study—you get quick testing and care if you do get sick, etc. 7. I care about the common good.
I did go ahead and sign up to get a phone call to ask all my questions. What should I ask?

They told me you do. In NY they are unblinding all the 65 plus and teachers etc bc they are eligible. Also they said you will end up with the vaccine even if you are the placebo group at the latest three months after your second dose

I imagine they have the same protocols across the study. Also, there is a ton of ethics issues if you refused to do this. Also, you could just quit and then they have to tell you anyway but the unblinding keeps people in the study

I got my shot. It burned so I'm hoping it's real. I would like some random flu symptoms for confirmation

I got my 2nd dose of the Moderna vaccine this morning! I'm a little anxious about potential side effects since most people have been saying the 2nd one is worse but I'm so happy and grateful to have been able to get the vaccine.

My sister tested positive.
So far just tired.
But she's of course freaking out about her little ones (3 and a year).
She hasn't seen my parents in three weeks, so presumably she didn't get it from them, right?

Damn I’m sorry your family cannot catch a break STP. I hope she remains mild and the kids don’t get it. I know your mom was improving but how is your dad?

She hasn't seen my parents in three weeks, so presumably she didn't get it from them, right? depends on if she had any possible symptom in the last week ish. some people start out with oh I have a little sore throat or stuffy nose, oh it's just allergies. and then a week later they have a cough or lose taste or smell and then go get tested. Otherwise it's when you go down the list of all of your contacts for the last couple of weeks and see if any of them are positive. I keep a list on my phone.

A friend in CA started a new job in an eye clinic on Tuesday and got a vaccine on Thursday.
It has me thinking that I should get a part time job in the medical field...

Our pediatrician’s office sent out a note yesterday with guidelines for returning to activity for kids who have had COVID. If they are febrile for 4 or more days, they should get an ECG and clearance from a cardiologist before resuming sports or exercise or anything more than light activity because of the growing evidence of cardiac and pulmonary implications.

Our county randomly opened up next Wednesday for anyone to sign up for a vaccine. My mom and I both grabbed appointments.

So my mom is on day 8 since the onset of her symptoms. Her doctor friend told her to sign up for Monoclonal Antibody Therapy, which is an experimental at this time. One of her reasoning for possibly wanting to go through with it is "well Trump or Giuliani got it when they had Covid." And I was like, "well that is the #1 reason why I wouldn't get it." Does anyone know anything about this or heard of it? Everything we are using currently is “experimental” in that it doesn’t have FDA approval specifically for covid, but is being used for Covid under emergency use authorizations. If my parents had Covid and weren’t sick enough to be in the hospital, I’d try and get them in for the monoclonal Ab ETA: I don’t base any of that on which politician received which drug.

Does anyone know anything about this or heard of it? I would 100% do it. It’s going to be experimental because it’s new. It has EUA. This isn’t some random person walking in off the street trying to give you a homemade cocktail of essential oils and saying it works. It’s been tried. It is promising and appears to work. Trump and Giuilliani getting doesn’t change that

My mom sent me a picture of my dad grumpily waiting in a folding chair for his vaccine and I am trying to figure out how to insert Bernie next to him.

They said it was based off the American Association of Pediatrics guidelines for youth athletes but did not link any specific studies. I’m curious to know more as well.

I bought this bodysuit just now. Why am I posting it here? Because I *will* be going out for an evening sometime in 2021 post-Covid and I want a cute shirt.

When I called about my kids they immediately asked how long they were symptomatic for. After I answered they said four or more days requires a full cardiac workup. Thankfully my kids were under that threshold. We've done enough hospital visits with them for a while.

Grumpiest old men in the vaccine line (apologies for my dad's mask slippage... he has been embarrassing me since the 70s)
