Other doctors in the comments are saying things like they haven't seen pediatric strep in months and they haven't diagnosed a single case of influenza, despite testing many people for it. our ped has said this too, also asthma issues are way, way down

but those have always existed. I wonder if a significantly greater number of people got them this year or not. They may have just predicted the strain better this year. Isn't that why some flu seasons are worse than others even with the flu shot? Either way, science is amazing. I meant more like flu shots+masks+social distancing could be why there is so little flu while rampant covid. I do think more people got shots than normal years, at least in my area.

Maybe more science based people can explain but if the masks/distancing has worked with the flu why are we still seeing huge outbreaks of Covid in areas where masking and distancing is pretty well practiced it feels like. I truly believe masks work with my own experiences with the flu I guess I just don’t understand how Covid is different? I thought Covid was more contagious or infectious than flu? But also I think it comes down to it being transmitted while people are gathering with each other and not wearing masks. In houses or restuarants. I think more people have Covid than flu right now so there's less flu being passed around. Just guesses. I think there's a lot we don't understand here. H and I got COVID and we have been shut down the entire time. I worked the polls for 3 days, in a mask, and was fine. We haven't seen friends or family, both of us WFH. Now, my H started going back to the gym (masked) and he got it first so I think that's where it happened. He said there's people there not wearing a mask. It's also been theorized that wearing a mask might mean you get a milder case, which was the case with us. So IDK. I've also been shooting weddings (masked) but I know I didn't get it from a wedding based on the timing of when we became ill.

Our state has said they’ve seen a lot of rhinovirus (common cold) but didn’t speculate why that might be (and also when do people get tested for the cold virus?). My kid has gotten many colds since being in preschool, despite masks and other precautions. I don’t know how.

My MIL is 65 and has an appointment on Monday to get her first dose! They opened it up to 65+ in my state.

When DS1 has a super gross nose a couple of months ago and we had him tested they literally told us he tested negative for Covid but positive for rhinovirus.

I truly believe masks work with my own experiences with the flu I guess I just don’t understand how Covid is different? Flu is big droplets so masks work great. Covid is aerosol and smaller stuff Plus covid is more insidious. You don’t know you have it until days or weeks later. With flu, I believe onset is like 24-48 hours after exposure so people know more quickly they have it, and isolate more quickly.

No symptoms. Nothing. He is tested for work and tested positive. She was with him the previous weekend not knowing he was positive. Then went to work Monday. The incubation period plus the time that symptoms start to develop a lot of people may be affected without knowing it.

My H got his first dose of the vaccine last week. Our state just opened it to 70 and above, so I also got my mom an appointment. I’m so relieved two people close to me will be vaccinated. I asked my H if his parents had signed up and he said they weren’t sure if they were going to get it. His dad doesn’t want to because he doesn’t like shots. He said they hurt. Wtf. The kids don’t like them either, but suck it up, buttercup.

They’ve moved our vax schedule up to start Feb instead of March. I will be in Phase 1B and H we aren’t sure as they haven’t made it clear where teachers fit into the degree of essential-ness. Initial talks were that teachers would be really early on to help prevent schools having to close as much but now it looks like maybe not. It means that phases 1a and b here will get the pfizer and the rest the Oxford. For some reason, that worries me? Like will there be a future long term “side effect” or something for one type. Dumb I know, but you know. Over thinking brain.

I totally believe it. DS is in a masked preschool class, and we haven't had a single sniffle since last March. This is the healthiest our family has ever been.

My mom turns 65 in March, so that will either get her the vaccine, or her pre-exisiting condition will (she has cancer). Not sure which one will qualify her first, but it doesn't matter, as long as she gets it!

There is nothing in my mom's county except if you work at the hospital So they've opened up 24/7 at the stadium near me for anyone in the state. I'm contemplating getting my mom an appointment and driving 2 hours to go get her and bring her down for a shot. She may or may not cooperate. Inner ear problem makes changing altitude very painful for her and she'll be drunk for days

Higher ed was initially included in Missouri's 1B, but in a post today it seems we've been moved to 2. SUPER.

I need quick help please. My mom was exposed one week ago today. When should she be tested? Should my dad be tested? If so, when?

Sorry for being demanding. My parents are very whatever about Covid lately and I am trying to convince her that she NEEDS to be tested. She’s asking when the best time is based on exposure.

I saw on Facebook that the staff and residents at my hometown nursing home got vaccinated today. It made me so happy!

Does driving slowly or making frequent stops help the inner ear thing? It’s cool. My parents clinic in Florida has run out of vaccine doses. At this rate I’ll never see them again 😔
