I drank once over the weekend, intentionally. lizblue it’s like you said, I’m trying hard not to drink when I’m sad and scared or to turn those feelings off with alcohol. It’s hard work!

PSA: LaCroix peach pear is the worst. The absolute worst. It’s free at work so I drink one the days I’m in the office. But ugh. The carbonation level = flat and the flavor = ick. Please love yourself more than drinking something gross just because it's free

This thread has been really helpful for me, so thanks again everyone for talking about your motivations and ups and downs.
I hope all of you who are having a tough day today are hanging in there.
Today is done here and it does seem to be getting easier. I am realizing how much of my drinking during the pandemic has just been mindless — not much to do, have a top up or two and then go to bed, keep going up to get a bit more when the glass is empty.. If is that mindlessness I want to break. I want to have each drink be a conscious choice, not just a fog where I lose track.
Just drinking some nice teas on work nights has helped, my bad knitting projects keep my hands busy, so my goal is to not fall back into that.

For me I've had this drive? the last couple years that if I'm off work the next day, I drink. No question. I felt December, I had so many extra days off. It felt like drinking was something I had to do and I felt compelled to drink as much as I could to 'take advantage' of those extra days off. Now looking back and seeing weeks where I had sometimes up to 20 drinks. That's a gut punch. I'm realizing that I can't go back to that. It feels very shameful to admit that basically I was binge drinking on a regular basis. The first time I ever examined my drinking was when a new doctor asked me how many alcoholic drinks I had in a week and I rounded down and said “maybe 14” and she told me that was double what she’d hope to see and asked if I felt I could get it down to seven. Of course I said yes but I panicked inside because, could I?

Please love yourself more than drinking something gross just because it's free I know I know I know! But my other option is Coke Zero. Which I looooove. But I’m trying to ditch sodas. Right? Sodas are bad right? But we can count sparkling water as hydration? In addition to being dry for other reasons I am desperately trying to lose weight.

I love it too and have never had any urge to stop. I think 1 diet soda a day would be totally fine.

I do pretty well with not drinking during the week. We always have so much going on and being tipsy on a weeknight doesn’t even appeal to me because I’m afraid it’ll affect my sleep and I’ll feel like shit working the next day. The weekends are a different story... I love having a couple (or a few) drinks with MH on weekend evenings to relax and celebrate getting through the day with our crazy 6 yo and 3 yo. Also any time we get together with friends there is always drinking involved. I too want to stop with the binge drinking. I think after this month I’ll try to stick to 2 or less drinks at a time, 2 or less days a week.

Day 12. One positive thing about not drinking is my skincare routine is on point. I also floss my teeth every night 🎉
I haven't had any real urge to drink but I did find myself thinking today Wow when I do drink again I'm gonna be able to get drunk so fast! Sooo clearly I still have some work to do.

Still doing well here. I found out today I’m having my gallbladder removed sometime in the near future (surgical consult on Thursday). Which isn’t anything I could have prevented but it’ll still be my fifth abdominal surgery in 7 years so I’m feeling driven to take more charge of my health.
Also I’m obsessed with being in bed as early as possible. I get up at 5 pretty regularly so I’ve been enjoying all the extra sleep on the front end of the night.

Is Polar Seltzer regional? I much prefer Polar, even if the la Croix cans are cuter. I hate Waterloo! I had never heard of them until Whole Foods started occasionally substituting my Polar orders for them. I have a whole stack of unopened Waterloo cases. Pola showed up at my local Costco which I thought was weird. My fave right now is Pomegranate Dragonfruit - Good & Gather from Taget. So so good. Reminds me; I need to order more.

I know it’s not for everybody (or most... ok, I only know one other person who likes this) but LaCroix makes an unsweetened cola flavor called NiCola that I love. It’s a little bitter, and with a squeeze of lime, it’s one of my favorites. Also great as a mixer for some NA spirits, especially since they are often a little sweet. There’s also a NiCola coffee flavor I enjoy.

The kombucha isn’t making my belly hurt anymore. It’s really enjoyable in little spurts.

I forget about Bubly, I will have to get to a store that sells them. And yes, we’ve leaned in hard to the PC soft drink seltzer’s. I love the ginger ale one. My usual grocery store is Food Basics and they have all the flavours. Cherry and strawberry are the only ones I’ve tried but they’re delicious. I think I’ll try blackberry next. I’ll pick up some PC soft drink seltzer’s next time I see them! I picked up a can of cherry bubly at target and it’s surprisingly tasty.

Dry January has gone well so far - not drinking has been fine, I’m really more of a social drinker and with my province locked down it’s been easy to avoid. The sugar thing has been much harder. I don’t even have much of a sweet tooth but I’m realizing now how mindless my sugar intake could be. Even with trying consciously to avoid sweets, I caught myself mindlessly finishing my son’s cookie today. It wasn’t even that good!
I’m obsessed with sparkling water - I prefer unflavoured. Perrier is my favourite but any unflavoured kind will do, as long as it’s cold!

My sleep hasn't really improved much. Lol. I still have a hard time waking up in the morning and drag ass until I get coffee. I guess having a few drinks before bed wasn't the culprit for that

I guess having a few drinks before bed wasn't the culprit for that I have found for me, sleep is the cure-all. If I'm eating super healthy, hydrating, working out, etc., my body still prefers 9+ hours of sleep to feel good. I catch up on sleep on the weekends.

I like the Trader Joe's Blueberry Lemonade sparkling water! I've also been a fan of their strawberry rhubarb soda for awhile.

My sleep hasn't really improved much. Lol. I still have a hard time waking up in the morning and drag ass until I get coffee. I guess having a few drinks before bed wasn't the culprit for that My issue is that my mind is clear and I’m animated in the evenings when I’m not drinking, so I end up staying up later working on things. And then it’s still hard to get up in the morning! But I think the quality of my sleep is much better. I just still don’t get nearly enough.
