I don’t know why FB is showing me Trumper cousin after I blocked her, but she shared a daily wire article about how trump is going to block the stimulus and wants more. She’s praising him as for the ppl and the responses are all “good, people need more”. Do they not follow that Rs have been the ones not advocating for the people but instead corporations?! According to my Trumper aunt, Pelosi is the reason the stimulus checks aren't larger. Also, she is outraged that the legislation contains money for the Smithsonian and some arts programs.

Is there anything documenting who asked for what in the relief bill? Or do any of you know? My super trumper BIL is blaming dems for "gender studies for pakistan and fish studying grants". Just wanted to see if those pieces were truly something we asked for but I haven't been able to find that breakdown. Any bill this large includes lawmakers' pet projects. Always. It's just part of the process. There's virtually no way anything that small actually held up the bill; The direct payments, the liability shields and the actual size of the stimulus were the sticking points. Anything else tacked on is just sausage making. For example, there's money in there to clean up Long Island Sound. It would be really hard to get Mitch to put that on the floor as a standalone. But he DGAF if it's tacked on to this. This is the problem. Most Americans don't really understand how the legislative process works. Then they get outraged because somebody wants to build a Smithsonian dedicated to women.

We are in agreement that Trump pushing back on direct payments is two-fold: going out on a ‘high’ note and everyone will be happy for the financial relief and praise him and, more importantly, to check the level of control he still has over the GOP?

I am surprised to find myself in agreement with 45 that the stimulus payments are laughably scant. But as always, his way of doing things is so damn stupid. His statement that hey maybe he'll be the next President is fucked and I don't think the GOP will budge, which unfortunately means everyone loses. IDK WTF he was thinking waiting until NOW to stamp his foot and demand a number. Shouldn't Mnuchin have known and fought for the amount his boss wanted?
What a mess. As per.

And further proof that the GOP was stupid af to hitch their horse to his wagon. He only cares about himself and always has. He doesn’t give a shit if the GOP burns, America burns, etc.

Reading this article about possible voter fraud (which appear to generally be by... Republicans..) but I needed to call out this gem. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/voter-fraud-investigations-2020/2020/12/22/bdbe541c-42de-11eb-b0e4-0f182923a025_story.html"Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman (D) said the two cases were “out of a Benny Hill skit,” referring to the slapstick comedian. “It perfectly illustrates how rare and difficult it is to commit voter fraud,” he said in an interview. Fetterman cited the cases in response to a call-out on Twitter by his Texas counterpart, Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who offered a $1 million reward for anyone who brought forward a valid complaint of fraud, part of an effort by GOP officials to put a spotlight on alleged irregularities. Fetterman requested that his reward money be paid in gift cards to Sheetz gas stations. Patrick, he said, has so far “stiffed” him on the offer." 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 This would have only been funnier if he had requested Wawa. Mainly because I don't live near Wawa anymore and I miss the Gobbler.

This thread is a satisfying read (written the day Biden was officially declared the president elect).

This is great news. My current insurance is the first that I have had that covers all mental health visits 100% no copay or deductible and doesn’t have to be in network. It has been amazing to feel no stress about seeing my therapist as much as I want or need. This is not directly related to insurance, but in our recent town hall at my hospital, someone submitted a question asking if mental health would be included in the covid admin leave we are alotted. Without hesitation, our CEO said "absolutely. Mental health is health." I am thankful. I hope the ones on the front lines that are getting burnt out with the surge are being allowed by their managers to take leave if they need to.

In my mailbox today, a mailer promising that Warnock and Ossoff want to ban hamburgers. Because socialism. We're deep into fever dreaming. Hamburgers? Why on earth would they want to ban hamburgers? Because that's what socialism is all about! Don't question it.

What does this mean? That congress will override his veto? But why?

As I understand it, the bill was sent to the WH with veto-proof, two-thirds majorities from both houses. They can come back into session and override his veto
"Congress has until Jan. 3 at 11:59 a.m. — a Sunday — to override the veto and force the defense bill to become law. If they do nothing, it will expire along with the end of the two-year congressional session at noon that day. The House is planning to reconvene on December 28 to hold a veto override vote, while the Senate is expected back in Washington on December 29, and will hold its veto override vote thereafter"
Sure, in this year who the heck knows if things will go according to plan, but I believe most presidents would have looked at the initial vote and not try to buck both the House and the Senate.

Wait, I just read on Twitter that Andrew Yang filed to run for NYC mayor? What? Ha yeah he is exploring it right now-- there are a lot of people in the race so far. I can't imagine Yang as mayor, but I'm not necessarily against it. I'd 100% sub him in for De Blasio right now.

So this is a purely performative veto because he's mad at Twitter?
