TTMA the quad screen Mine came back as high risk for Down’s syndrome I’m not going to pretend that I’m not shaken by it. I’m also not going to pretend that the possibility of a child with severe special needs doesn’t terrify me. I’m kinda just sitting here, and I don’t know what to feel besides fear [br I think most of those tests are kind of like a crap shoot. They get your blood work and then they count all this other random factors like obesity and race and add that as contributing factors that place high risk to it. I think they look at overall estrogen levels and hcg. Or something like that. Which could also mean other things. Don’t take my word for it though. Also I think they compare those results with whatever you get in the third trimester blood work too. Were your results high high? Yes 1 in 12

Hopefully the second round of testing will give more insight and certainty. It all sucks though. I had a weird scare with second trimester blood work and it’s a lot to take in.

Sending all the hugs nonnie, we had a scare with dd2 for other issues and it’s so stressful. Try to breathe while you wait for more information.

Sending lots of hugs Nonniedee. I forget- is the quad screen the one from first tri? If it's the hormone based one, that one does have a much higher false positive rate than the chromosome one they recommended for me (due to my age; I did the hormone based one for both other kids). Will you have an amnio?

I’m so sorry for this Nonniedee. Remember a quad screen is just a screening of four different things. It’s not a test and it’s not diagnostic. I would look into an NIPT blood test before an amniocentesis. That will look specifically for baby’s DNA.

I will say that even after insurance (which they assured would pay for this test since I will be 35 at time of delivery), I still have to pay like $500. So it's quite expensive.

Nonniedee, You might also want to ask about meeting with a genetic counselor. Ours helped us so much as we were going through the process of getting a diagnosis.

The one I had (Natera) said I would pay no more than $X, even if my insurance said I owed more. I can’t remember the number though. I already met my OOP max for the year (thanks fertility treatments), so I didn’t have to pay anything and didn’t pay attention.

My insurance paid half, so I assume that was the max they would pay. I am actually okay with it- that should be the biggest bill I have during pregnancy, because my insurance is otherwise amazing (and it's the reason I signed up for the most expensive plan I was offered, lol).

But I think it’s 99% accurate with a negative result and 90% accurate for a positive. So depending on how far along I was, I would see what the NIPT said before electing for an amnio. Just personally.

Lots of love to you Nonniedee. I had the same scare during my pregnancy with DD2. The bloodwork done when I had my anatomy scan came back high for down syndrome. They got me in quickly with a genetic counselor and did a cell free DNA test. While it can't say for sure if they have down syndrome, it showed that my initial test was a false positive. The genetic counselor was great and really helped me talk through things. I totally get your fear and that gut feeling at getting those news. Lots of love to you. ❤

Nonniedee I had my quad screen flagged with one of my kids. The results actually gave me all four numbers and I found an online resource where you could input the data just like the lab would. I changed my age by a year or two and learned it would not have been flagged if I’d been just a bit younger. That helped me relax until we got the next step rolling. I can try to find the calculator if you like.

I appreciate all of y’all, and I’m not ignoring. But for my anxiety’s sake I kinda have to back burner this in my mind until I have more definitive answers.

@zweber I know you're getting close. How are you doing? Do you have a solution for your older kids' care when you go to the hospital? Anything we could possibly help with?

Anything we could possibly help with? 23 days! but i’m not counting or anything. h might be able to fly in but we are honestly too scared of covid to have him show up. SC is like the scariest place to be sooo. we haven’t decided 100% what’s going to happen.

I’m having a pretty hard day.
On 2/11 I went in for the NIPT. The geneticist told me the results would take about 2 weeks, but if there was anything of concern he’d call me right away.
I thought I was in the clear, and could finally breathe a sigh of relief
Turns out my blood sample was compromised somehow, and they want me to come and do it all over again.
I’m so discouraged and angry. I really wanted this to be over.

Nonniedee, I would be those things and more. I'm so sorry, that's stressful AF. Is there any way they can expedite processing this time considering the compromising of your sample was their error? I hope so.
