jt2378 I haven't been too active here, so I didn't AW myself here too. I will c&p my birth saga soon. Long story short is that Oliver Scot was born on June 24th at 33 weeks. We spent 16 days in the NICU and came home on Monday. We are doing great. He has gained over a pound since birth and has grown a little over an inch. He is very sleepy all the time, which is the complete opposite of his big sister. He is breastfeeding really well and taking his supplemental bottles just fine. We are so happy to finally have him at home and Molly is adjusting really well. Far better than I thought she would.

Just coming to update/get some advice/AW my latest crazy story. TW for content below: ***Oliver Scot was born at 33 weeks this morning. He is doing awesome.*** I started to have some cramping that woke me up around 1130 last night. I got up to go to the bathroom and noticed some pink tinged discharge that I though was NBD at first. I honestly just thought that I had peed my pants because pregnancy is glamorous. Apparently my membranes had ruptured and I was slowly leaking fluid. I finally called the OB office around 115 because the cramping was getting worse. I called twice and never got a call back from the on call Dr. So I called L&D to let them know I was coming in because something wasn't right. I woke H up, told him I was going in to be checked out, and said I would call and let him know what was going on. He stayed home with Molly because I thought it was a false alarm. I drove myself to the hospital and arrived at the ED at 204. They have it in my record. They wheeled me up to L&D where I continued to have contractions and was in a lot of pain. I didn't even get changed into a Johny or hooked up to monitors before I had to push. He was born at 224 am. Delivered by two nurses who were screaming at me to not push and that he was early. I could only respond with "I know that! I can't help it!" I made the nurse call H while I had a head half lodged in my vagina. He didn't make it to the birth, obviously. The OB showed up 30 minutes after he was born. He is perfect. He cried almost right away and was on room air after a short stint on the oxygen mask before any doctors could get up to him. Respritory made it in time and the nurses were serious rock stars. He was transferred to a bigger hospital with a NICU and I should be able to get a bed there today. Otherwise they are discharging me so I can go down there. I sent H down with him. He is doing amazing for being so early and the NICU Dr who came to pick him up was really hopeful that he would have a short stay. So, I am going to need all the tips and tricks from fellow NICU and pumping momma's, please? He looks just like his sister. Oliver Scot 6/24/17 (33 weeks exactly) just over 4lbs and 16.75 inches long I should add that @starzia is the best friend. She answered my frantic 3am phone call and came to pick up Molly at the hospital.

Wow nutmeg, what a birth story! I'm so glad little Oliver is home and doing well. These babies really come when they want. I'm so glad you went with your instincts and went right to L&D

Congratulations nutmeg. So glad your baby is doing well and that you are okay too. How exciting he is here!! Do you mind if I ask if your first delivery was so rapid? Stories like that freak me out a bit because I'm a decent distance from my hospital. My first labor took around 17 hrs but I've heard second is often faster.

Stories like that freak me out a bit because I'm a decent distance from my hospital. My first labor took around 17 hrs but I've heard second is often faster. My first was also really quick. They broke my water at the hospital and I went from about 4.5cm to an outside baby in about 45 minutes. Good luck! I don't think it's normal to go so fast. My mom had really quick deliveries too. Genetics maybe?

Can someone give an update on bug and the twins? I have been thinking about them since this thread I went and read up on her and the twins in the premie board. Im going to paraphrase because I didnt want to copy her post without permisssion. She is doing good. Babes are slowly growing. Her DS had an infection and then was finally able to try a bottle but needed a blood transfusion before they got to do bottle #2. Her DD is doing good gaining weight, and the Dr's say she is "boring". Sorry it's not full of super specific things, but the gist is everything seems to be going good. addymac, thanks for the tag! I didn't realize we had an Aug 17 board set up over here. The twins came May 28th at 27+3 with Benji weighing in at 1lb 15 ounces and Evie at 1lb 5 ounces. They are now 7 weeks with an adjusted age of 34 weeks gestation and we are now on day 50 of our NICU stay. I'm optimistic that at least one of them will come home before their due date. At minimum, they need to weigh 4lbs, be gaining weight regularly, regulate their temp, and no longer require tube feedings. Benji recovered really well from his surgery and is a weight gaining machine. He is now up to 3 lb 10 ounces. His doctor today took him off of all oxygen support to "see how he does." So far, so good. They had speech therapy come in to work with him on bottle feeding today. He took only about 2ml out of his 30 ml feed so not a great start. When I saw him at his next feeding he was giving a ton of cues that he was ready for a bottle so I'm taking that as a good sign - and that the nurses need to be patient and wait to try his bottle each day until he is giving more cues than he is awake and sucking on his pacifier. . He'll more than likely be at 4lbs within the week but needs to get his breathing in order and figure out bottle feeding. There is still a chance he could do this in the next couple weeks and be home before their due date. Oh, and the nurses adore him. Most common words to describe him is "he's a sweetheart" and "he is just so cute." Evie is beyond feisty. She is up to 2lbs 8 ounces and has been moved to the step down unit. She is no longer on any oxygen support and has not been for over a week. She is still taking her feeds by tube and when I asked her doctor about starting her on bottles he said we had to wait for her to get physically bigger. Later that day, she woke up about 45 minutes before feeding and, as her nurse described it, "was losing her shit." After trying to shove her entire fist into her mouth, the nurse decided to let her try a bottle. She drank more in that first attempt than brother has in his first three tries. And she slept like a log after. Her main nurse likes to say that Evie is very good at communicating. That is an understatement. She has had two more bottles since and is completing each one within the 20 minutes her hospital allows them to have. The big thing they are doing is waiting to feed her until she gives lots of cues - essentially, awake ahead of feeding and anticipating her feeding, rooting around and really going after her pacifier. Today, the nurse that had her told me she was "amazed that someone so small could cause such a ruckus." This was after she pretty much had slept all of day shift and then decided for her 6PM feeding that she wanted to eat and she wanted to eat now. Or ten minutes ago. I think she will push them to give her more bottle feeds sooner than what her physical size dictates. Right now, if things staying boring for her then she has a good chance of being ready to come home once she hits the 4 lb mark. My guess on that would be end of August and her current growth rate.

buggirl I am so glad to see a good update on the twins. Learning to eat is a big deal and can be quite a challenge. As an anecdote, once Oliver figured out that he could get food from the bottle he started to pick up on it really quickly. They say that 34 weeks is when they can start to figure out the suck/swallow/breathe thing. I think that he went from taking 10% of feeds via bottle to being off the tube feeds in about 4 days. Hopefully it will click for Benji soon. Sounds like Evie already knows where the good stuff comes from. ☺️ I hope that things continue to go well and they are both home soon.

buggirl so happy to see your update and the photos of your previous little babies! I didn't realize you didn't know of the existance of the A17 board, I was wondering to whether you'd like for one of us to update th rest of A17 after the twins were born, but didn't want to bug you in case you already had enough on your plate already. But so glad you found us now
