I posted this on N16 last night but maybe y'all could be more helpful....
I noticed H has a black spot on the roof of his mouth the size of a quarter and it's raised. Anyone have any previous experience with this?
We have a pedi appt tomorrow but google is freaking me out a bit. It could be anything from a bruise to a birthmark to something serious.
HELP!

If you touch it does he have pain? Not sure. It was hell just to get my finger in his mouth.

I have no experience but it kind of sounds like it could be a hemangioma.

I have no experience but it kind of sounds like it could be a hemangioma. What the hell is that? It's a collection of blood vessels. S has a couple on her lower back/butt. They go away eventually. It's like a birth mark.

Ok, C actually has a tiny hemangioma under her diaper...she's so chubby that it's not visible unless I'm giving her a super thorough wiping. it's dark red, and still very tiny (maybe a quarter of a pencil eraser?) They're normal and sometimes get larger before shrinking away to nothing.
A quick google search also suggested bruising (like maybe he jammed a toy or something into the roof of his mouth?) or discoloration due to blood vessels.
Hopefully it's nothing serious!

So everything I'm reading mentions red or blue. This is black. I tried to get a pic or a video but I wasn't very successful. I'll post them though.
I don't know how to post a video because I'm really intelligent....

I hope this makes you feel better - serious medical problems in a child's oral cavity are exceedingly rare. It is almost unheard of, serious medical conditions like oral cancer are almost exclusively due to lifestyle factors and affect older adults. I say this as a person who has had discussions with my child's pediatrician because he has uncommon oral motor disorders and my father had oral cancer.
I would not panic. I've BTDT.

I have no clue, but there are variations of hemangioma, I think they can vary in colours. J has a quarter size one on her lower left shoulder blade, flamingo and trtlcrzy have your pedi prescribed TIMOPTIC-XE? I try and remember to apply it but fail most days, apparently my pedi has had success with a lot of patients. Other than that they say it is 50% gone by age 5 and 90% gone by age 9.

No, no prescription cream. S's are super faint now, almost gone. Hers look more like spider veins or something than the big red blistery type.

No Prescription for us either...it's literally only a couple millimeters big and due to its location and the fact that it hasn't grown, we're not really concerned about it. Good to know about that cream if anything changes, though!
