milano another suggestion would be to use a POD. This is what we did and it was a great, easy experience. While we loaded and unloaded it ourselves, you could hire movers to pack it for you then unload on either end. It would be way cheaper than a full service move with a truck. *we moved all the small boxes in the minivan over a few trips and only loaded furniture/rugs/big toys/lawn mower in the pod and while it was fully loaded, everything fit from our 4 bedroom house.

I kind of dismissed this idea because I didn't want to load it, but hiring movers to load and unload is a good idea that I hadn't considered. Especially since our timeframe is flexible and we don't need our stuff to get there asap. I will look into this as well!

We've only ever moved stuff ourselves using a uhaul if necessary, but when my parents moved from Ontario to Florida a donkey's age ago I remember they sold most everything and only moved the stuff that they couldn't replace easily or that had sentimental value (this is how I wound up with a coffee table that has lived in Holland, Ontario, Florida, and now New Brunswick). The furniture and clothes went into the truck and most of the breakables went in the van with us. It only took up about 1/3 of the truck so they were able to share it with other families which brought the cost down significantly.

We packed a trailer, then had it shipped to the new house. We packed all the boxes ourselves with a very specific color-number system, but had the movers load up the boxes and furniture into the trailer. Then, had a different set of movers unload everything at the new house. I don't remember what we paid, but it was worth it to have someone else do the heavy lifting

Ya know, this is what I love about this group lol. The ability to say "hey, I have this problem. What would/did you do?" and have a bunch of answers so you can pick what works best for you and maybe get ideas you didn't have before.

We do have a relocation stipend that we get reimbursed for - and while I know there are lots of things we can submit for relocation reimbursement I am happy to use it up for moving purposes so I don't mind spending some money. But not $18,000 LOL. I had that company rework the quote to do just one truck instead of the one and half truck we originally needed, and it more than halved the price so that is a good option now too. We would just need to do 2 trailer loads ourselves, probably, which would be fine. One trailer before the movers and one after for anything that is left.

I have a virtual (facetime) moving quote consult in a few minutes. Facetime calls are awkward even with people you know, can't wait to see how awkward I am on this call with a stranger. And I'm sure my kids will be well-behaved and not be dying to know "who are you talking to?! who is that man?! I want to show him my toys! What is his favorite paw patrol character?!" I threatened them, but ya know. No one listens to me. Can't wait! ETA we are also getting a dumpster delivery today and while I don't plan on getting anywhere close to the delivery guy, I still have to shout to him to tell him where to put the dumpster and of course he will show up in the middle of my moving consult because that is how life is. I'm behind, but this is my life every single day since March 10.
I had a "meeting" with my kids this morning before a long call and told them exactly what to do, and during the conversation they fought over what to do when i started my call (like M goes, P- i'm only going to play with you for a minute then I'm going to quit. Cue tears). So that went well.

I set up a Christmas backdrop in my garage and had the kids wear Santa hats and their Walmart Christmas outfits for our cards this year. Now that I'm addressing the envelopes, I wish I would've included a pic of them in masks.

I am dying over this phone call I just made to my insurance agent's office.
The actual agent answered the call instead of his assistant or whoever I usually talk to. He told me she had walked away from her desk so he put me on hold a minute to go find her. After he comes back, he says "she just went into the restroom and should only be in there a couple minutes - I waited outside the door for a minute to see if she was coming out but I didn't hear anything, I'm sure she will be out in shortly and I will have her call you right back."
LOL I cannot.

When she called me back (literally a minute later) she was absolutely cracking up about something so maybe this is not unusual for him to be oversharing on the phone?

I can't be bothered to hunt down the gift idea thread, but the owner of this Etsy shop just lost her dad to Covid and her stuff is so fun! She has a bunch of Schitt's Creek, Friends, and Biden/Harris magnets and pins and stickers and things in case you need something. www.etsy.com/shop/TheRedSwanGiftShop?ref=shop_sugg&page=3#items

*CLOTH DIAPER RELATED POST*
So MH is staying in the garage, and coincidentally the last area of stuff we need to sort through before packing happens to be up there. He called me a few minutes ago and said "Milano, I am just now realizing this but you have a real PROBLEM. I had no idea it was this bad! Most of these haven't even been worn, they look brand new!"
He was talking about the cloth diaper stash. He was like "there are so many up here omg, between these diapers and the amount of blankets and bedding you have we could start an orphanage the size of a small hotel".
What is extra hilarious is that I already sold like 25 nb diapers, and my sister has about 20-25 OS's so what is left out there isn't even the bulk of my total stash. He had me guess how many, apparently there are 45 out there still. A friend of ours is stopping by later today to pick up some baby clothes and look through the diapers and I'm hoping she takes them all, otherwise I am going to donate them to a local diaper bank (unless someone lurking this board is interested in some FFS AIO diapers).

I can't figure out what FFS means. The internet says it can mean Finnish Fur Sales and that can't be right, can it?

I was thinking Finnish Fur diapers would be hot and a bitch to wash. So anyways, teah, I'd be interested in what you have after she goes through them. The bigger the better because DS is only 8 months and is already wearing everything with the rise completely unsnapped.

We went today to cut down a tree, finally! It was pouring so we were the only ones there and the kids got to hold bunnies and feed the animals and do all the things they don’t usually let you do. It was super fun and they insisted on a tiny 4.5 ft tree. It’s so miniature and cute I can’t even.

MH and I are going to have a date on the front porch tonight since it's warm, sitting at opposite ends. I'm quite excited. Monday is 10 days so we basically need to make it through the weekend without developing symptoms. Hopefully our test results are back Monday too 🤞. We are waiting for those until he moves back inside at night.
