I asked my mom for my grandma’s “nut roll” recipe (also called povitica or orahnjaca if you’re curious) and I’m laughing at the fact that it calls for an entire 5lb bag of flour and makes 14 loaves. #bigfamilyproblems

I really like my neighbor, but her 5 year old is a punk. I know she wants him to behave better, but I wonder how much of his disrespect is because they are from a patriarchal driven culture. I need more patience for her kid than my own.

Man I wish my kid would just start using his words lol. He's smart, and I know he has them because he repeats them, but he won't use them independently.

I'm like 90% sure he's inherited my ADHD and he's so going to be that kid who never. Stops. Talking 🤣

I'm up, got my Target gift cards for teachers, started planning for meals, and I'm going to get my coffee in a minute.

Today we had a rainy slushy snowy storm, and I learned that my kids' snow outerwear REALLY needed to be re-waterproofed. Yikes.
So once A was home, I walked into town and bought tech wash and waterproofing spray, and tonight I've washed and treated H and M's jackets, M and T's snowsuits, and my own softshell jacket.
They're all drying overnight near the woodstove (not too near!).
Sometimes, these days, when something like this occurs, the solution takes ages, because I'm home alone with the kids 5.5 days a week and shipping can be quick, but never instantaneous.
I spent the money at my local outdoor store and it made me extra glad they're in business. I bought three snow tubes for sledding from them, too. I also used the gift card I bought back in March, when we were told to buy gift cards to local businesses because they may need to close for a few weeks or months. Ha. Ha ha. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

My house is officially on the market, as of Friday at midnight. Since then we have had so many requests for showings that I had to book a few nights at a hotel so we would have somewhere to go for hours and hours during the day. So that is good news. My kids are at my parents' house and I have to go get them tonight. This would all be fine and exciting if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic and I feel like my opportunities for exposure have gone from low to high very quickly.
But today, MH is at work so I am in a hotel by myself with unlimited water usage (hello long, hot shower), cable tv (we just cancelled ours last week), and I am in complete control of the thermostat. So I am going to enjoy the next few hours and try to bring my stress levels down.

ovenrack omg wow. I... I just didn’t know that we were supposed to waterproof our snow gear? I just assumed that snow gear was prepped and ready for snow? I’m from Texas y’all. I don’t know anything about snow. Can you fill me in? What is this magic snow spray and “tech wash”??

My parents, who have owned their current home for well over 30 years now and have never sold a home before keep giving me house-selling advice and questioning my realtor and I'm about to lose my mind on them. 🙄. Omg.

You can spray on a scotch-guard type spray to re-waterproof it.

We signed a contract for a new roof today. It was inevitable but the cost makes me want to vomit.

But OR is wise and an expert re-vamper while I live with someone who loves to trash things and buy new so... But I’ve never seen it as a problem and assumed some level of wetness happens after enough time outside. So maybe I should. Plus I feel like my kids outgrow their snow stuff faster than this would happen. As a kid I remember putting my feet in plastic bread bags and then into my boots. Anyone else?

I had to find and replace the harness straps on and Ms car seat/HBB so P could use it. I can see the end of car seats coming and I cannot wait.
Such a PITA.

My hand-me-downs are on their third kid - and many were bought used to begin with. And my kids’ stuff got soaked immediately upon going outside yesterday. Today was much better! I also keep my own outerwear long enough that it is nice to reinvigorate its waterproofing. It isn’t necessary for new stuff that works fine! It certainly isn’t a universal practice for people whose stuff is still waterproof, KWIM?

Vegan cheddar, locally grown and canned salsa, and shredded chicken, in case you were wondering.

I'm not sure P is mature enough for it, but next year if she goes to kindergarten she's gonna need it to be able to get out of the car herself, though I guess M could help her.
She's the kid who wants nothing to do with attempting to buckle and unbuckle herself ever.
Or...maybe the world will be normal and she can take the bus. OMG. my baby. and OMG, normal life!

My maturity issue with C is that *sometimes* she will simply do whatever the eff she wants hell be damned (like her mother, so...). Like I would trust her maybe 80% not to try to climb into the front seat and onto my lap. But her decisions about what is ok and what is not ok get dramatically better with every passing month. Since the, maybe, 3rd day that I put M on the bus I have dreamed of the day that I could put both children on one bus and drive off in the opposite direction (my work and their schools are in opposite directions from our house). That dream has reached a new level of acuity with COVID. I have seen stats where *most* adults are vaccinated by May and others where it's not until the end of 2021. But both hold the possibility of a school bus in August. And then I realize that a lot people won't make it to those dates. Ugh.
