Finally started watching Schitt's Creek and now J wants me to wait and watch it with him. Which means it will take foreeeeeever to watch because we don't spend that much time watching TV together in general. Most nights, he's gaming or podcasting and I'm gaming or sewing (and watching a show on my desk tv). And we still have Flight Attendant to get through. I'm gonna tell him that we should just watch it separately.

Is there a 7.5 year sleep regression? Asking for a friend. Did she ever sleep?! I feel like there's been a few years in here where she mostly went to bed and left us alone for 10 hours.
Now its like 9 hours but with two MOTN visits complaining of being unable to sleep.

May not be useful information, but we got Nugget a Warmies stuffed animal that you microwave and it has actually helped a lot with getting her to go to sleep. She has fewer nights where she complains she can't get to sleep. It's like a heat pad inside a stuffy and it smells like lavender.

I ordered acrylic paint and some canvasses on a whim the other day when they were on super sale and picked them up curb side yesterday. The kids went to bed last night and I accidentally got really baked so J and I had a date night paint night. It was so much fun! And our paintings actually turned out half decent. I highly recommend it.

Being a volunteer for a small municipality board is not without charms, but MAN, the 3 hour meetings on weeknights with loads of snippy people using complicated language to make legally ambiguous what they're trying to say... I raised my voice at the whole zoom room three times. Not shouting, but speaking sternly, loudly. We had three agenda items. Oops.

I bought a bunch of woven vinyl placemats from ikea because I was tired of washing cloth placemats for our dinner table, but they slide around on the wood. Is there some kind of grippy tape I can put on the back? Or should I just cut squares of that grippy drawer liner?

We apparently have a pet mouse now. We trapped a bunch when we first moved in, and just recently had to start setting up traps again. We use snap traps, figuring a quick neck snap is the most humane end we can give them. Well, one little mouse managed to get snapped backwards. My husband, a softie, was horrified, finding it still alive with what looked like paralyzed back legs. I came home to a mouse in a large cardboard box with a towel over it. I watched it for a bit and it only looked like one back leg wasn't working so we put it in our smallest hamster house with food, water, and a small wooden house to hide in. It stayed there for two days. But today, it was out on the food dish grabbing a snack and it looked to be getting around really well, so I watched it a bit and it seemed like both back legs were working. I moved it to a larger house with a tunnel set and a wheel and it's running all around, both back legs looking normal. It recently discovered how the wheel works and I'm sitting here watching it run and run and run, really enjoying itself it would seem.
It's honestly way more interesting than the hamsters we have. They're almost never awake during the day and we hardly ever see them unless we take them out. I want to keep it, but I'm pretty sure a field mouse in a hamster cage is not a good long term solution, even if it seems to be doing well. I think we'll fatten it up a bit and have to let it go since it looks like it's completely recovered from its injuries at this point. Otherwise, I'd have to get a way bigger set up to keep it happy. It's such an active little guy.
MH has already ordered a set of humane live traps. I guess we're a trap and release house now. I've read they have to be released pretty far away to not come back though.

Omg violajack, your hubby is planning on starting a mouse rescue facility at your house. He’ll trap them humanely and be like, “honey this one’s so cute! Let’s put him with Felicity.”😂😂

I'm like, we have so many hamster cages because the hamsters that were so cute sleeping together all piled up in the store turned into territorial bloody fighting when they grew up a bit and needed to be separated. I'm pretty sure a cage full of many wild mice is going to turn into something much less humane than the snap traps were.

And if you have a male and a female mouse in a cage together, you will have a litter of mice in 21 days. You are welcome in advance.

Oh don't worry, I shut him down real quick on the lots of mice all together in one cage thing. This is the only mouse we're keeping for any length of time and that won't be for too long. After the brief excitement when it found the wheel, it's been mostly hiding in the tunnels. I think she's ready to move on back out to the wild. At least my kids have a renewed interest in the hamsters now and got them out to play some today. The mouse is absolutely not allowed out. Those things ninja vanish. And hanta virus. She is a very temporary pet. But my gosh her big ears are so cute.

Huh. My business advisor used to be in the governor’s cabinet in Vermont and still has a lot of connections there. He and I were talking about policy this morning and I stated a Covid policy that I wished was in Biden’s proposal. My advisor replied, “good point, I’ll bring it up to the federal delegation.” Then I realized that, now that we have a democratic incoming president, my advisor has a pipeline to the executive branch and their choices on policy. That’s crazy pants and makes the world seem like a much smaller place.

Well, you guys called it. I came home to a trap with a live mouse in it sitting next to the other cages because MH wanted to know what I wanted him to do with it. I asked him if he was going to start a mouse rescue and he laughed but didn't deny it. We now have two mice, one of whom is in a tiny travel cage and both of whom need to be returned to the wild. And here I am, researching bigger cages on Amazon.

Update: I told him to remove the mice or I would buy a bigger cage. He's taking them to woods now.

Tonight is M's first night in a toddler bed. I converted her crib today (yes she will be 4 in March). Hold me, I'm scared.

I'm test driving two fully electric cars tomorrow and planning another this weekend. I'm ecstatic about possibly owning an electric vehicle. We realized that there was a state rebate that we could qualify for only in the next month or so (and there are deals on year end inventory), so we're doing this sooner rather than later. I'm pretty darn excited.

I don't understand H's math journal question for the day. I told Henri to ask his teacher about it, and she told him he can ask his parents for help.
Uhh. I guess I will be signing on for extra help at 2pm.

The teacher has "office hours" this afternoon so H and I will ask her together. Bonus: H gets to see me asking for help when I don't understand!

M had some word problems today that I didn't know how to help her think about; beyond writing an equation and giving her an answer. It was like so and so has 13 books and so and so has 6. How many fewer does #2 have?
I gave her every word I could think of as a synonym to fewer. She knew it was subtraction and not addition. I know she can calculate 13-6 or 6+7. But she couldn't write an equation for it. Which is why the change unknown type is hardest. But I wish I'd know the strategies/language her teacher uses to help them get there.

Yep. I finally gave up yesterday and just told P that fewer means subtract. I’m a terrible teacher.
