Where do you go for insight on toddler discipline and child rearing? Mainstream parenting books/sites? Books/sites geared toward ethnically diverse families? Grandma/Big Mama, Mom, Auntie?

We normally do a combo of what I use to do when I worked in childcare and what I saw growing up with my parents and grandparents. Most of the time, If I use a stern voice it deters my toddler from doing something. I have a stern voice as it is. if she isn't listening, I get down to her eye level and tell her to stop xyz behavior. If that doesn't work, I put her in a time-out, tell her why and for how long. 1min for her age right now. We hardly do time out though. Maybe when she gets older. She'll be 2 next month, so I'm curious how the 2s will be for us. But I did this type of discipline at the daycare I worked at for kids ages 1-5 and I hardly ran into problems.
I don't talk to her in 3rd person. I personally find that it helps me in the discipline front not to do this. I'm not sure why. It's not science. It just works for us. I'm not saying those who do it are wrong. I just personally hate referring to myself in 3rd person.
