Anybody there?
I'm feeling all perky today: after freaking out about crèches last week, we saw one yesterday that's really great. It's ten minutes drive from home on the way to my office, bright, spacious, had a lovely garden and looks like a professional set up compared to the crusty lair of hippies we saw last week.
So, we're now on the waiting list for 4 public crèches and have this private one as back up in case it really as impossible as they say to get in the public ones RELIEF!
Are you finding it hard to get daycare sorted? It felt so weird to us as first timers that the first parenting step we've taken is finding a place to leave baby when it's still so early!

I'm checking out a place near us tomorrow. H can't come with me because of work, but if I like it we'll go back next month when his schedule should clear a little bit. I'm also a FTM and having to look so early feels weird, but at the same time I'm like "Holy crap we're two weeks from being halfway done and have accomplished NOTHING!"
So I'm finally starting to look at cribs and car seats and stuff too. I think I found stuff I like but I feel like I need to do more research? For the non-FTMs here, what did you look at when researching these items? Were website reviews enough or did you invest in Consumer Reports or something like that?
Along those lines, what are essential things you feel you need to have? I mean besides the usual - crib, car seat, changing stuff, etc. Any brands you particularly recommend? Anything to seriously avoid?
Also, it's disgusting around here today and my metro ride in was a hot car, so I feel super gross.

We have a good daycare, but we went to 3/4 before deciding and was put on the waiting list. I was fortunate enough that a spot opened up right when HK needed to go. This time around we will be using the same daycare and since we already have one enrolled, there is no waiting list and they find a spot for us for whenever we need.
I don't have a huge list of must need baby items. With my first I got EVERYTHING and with HK I dont even carry around a diaper bag - it just stays in the car. I'm all about the basics, but just go through BRU and just scan away. I would recommend the Fisher Price sit and see and A LOT of people swear by a Fisher Price Rock and Play. Don't bother putting clothes on a registry because people will get what they want in that category. Oh and lots of spare crib sheets - we have gone through over 3 in one night.
AFM - Nothing exciting here. Just at work. I'm having some cramping this morning which has me all paranoid, but I think its because we did it this morning. If it doesn't go away by lunch time, I'm calling. I really need to go to the grocery store today whomp whomp.

I just got on the list for the daycare we want this morning. To start in September 2018. Insane that I have to do this so early, but I'm relieved it's done. I did a lot of research last time and it's the one we were on the list for our baby girl, so it was an easy decision this time around.
The demand and the wait is crazy, but so is the cost. It blows my mind that we're expected to save for college for 18 years, yet have around $10,000 a year to shell out for daycare right away.

Also, lol at crusty lair of hippies. Does not sound like my ideal daycare situation.

cakewench when you come home from the hospital you need a way to feed the baby, diapers, wipes, a pack n play or bassinet or some other safe sleep space and a car seat. Also some clothes. The rest is just nice and extra, but no worries if you don't have it. You can order it as you see you need it. Edit to add that a stroller that you can click the infant car seat into is really nice if you live in an area where you need to drive.

I know you know that loss has nothing to do with this pregnancy, but I also know it's hard not to connect it. I hope all goes well tomorrow.

Day care search is intimidating. I remember with DD I looked around 20 weeks and was shocked that was the right time. Ultimately DH really wanted to go with nanny at first, which you can't really find until like 2-3 weeks out, so once we decided to go that route, it was a big burden off our pregnancy plates. We plan to do the same for this baby when it is young and the move it to DD's dc maybe when it's between 9-12 mo, so not until fall 18.
I loved having the rock and play for day naps (downstairs). Lots of sheets and mattress pads. I have two of each on the crib in case of night time messes. I loved the breast friend pillow over the boppy, but you should look into that stuff. I'm also a big fan of saving $ so look on mommy fb sale groups and Craigslist. That is where we got our crib

We are on the list at 3 different daycares in my area and still haven't visited any of them. We were #100+ on all three so I figure when we know which will be the most likely we will just tour the top two. BTW we did call at 12 weeks. It's nuts here.
I filled out a form online from my hospital this week about getting my breast pump and the company they work with already got it approved from my insurance and shipped to my house, so that was crazy fast.
Also, it's been super hot and humid the last few days and all I want to do is sit in front of the fan. It's awful.

When I had DS1, my mom's friend was going to watch him in the morning then my mom got out of work at 11:30 and was going to take over. After he was born, she changed her mind and her friend turn out to be a nut job. I was so upset. Saw a few daycares that I didn't love. I was taking a walk with my sister and the baby when he was a few weeks old and their was a lady unloading groceries who my sister though did in home daycare. I'm super shy but I was also desperate so I stopped and asked. H and I met with her a few days later and we loved her, she has watched 1 or more of my kids for the past 9 years. I may take a year and a half off work this time but whenever I go back, she will take this baby. We are so lucky, she was half the cost of daycare and she is fantastic.

I meant to tell you yesterday, genetic counseling can be overwhelming. I went a few pregnancies ago because I was a carry of something and DH had to get tested. Basically, the counselor spent an hour telling us in confusing terms that everything was fine and then offered tests for 40,000 other things which we declined. I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

ldubhawksfan, I hope your appointment today is helpful. I'm just getting caught up. I'm sorry for your worry. One of my good friends also had high odds and they opted for the amnio and everything came back normal. I'm sorry the timing was so awful too. Hugs.

ldubhawksfan - hope your appointment today goes well - sending you love and good vibes! Just got back from touring a daycare. We were kept waiting for half an hour, which did not impress me (I get shit happens but still). The kids there seemed happy and well cared for, though, but H and I still want to explore other options.

US went well and we are starting with the NIPT bloodwork test. I feel a little reassured but we will have another week or so wait for those results

Hi Ladies! My work network has blocked some of the pages on HIH so I probably won't be able to log on much anymore. I'm always running out of space on my phone so I had to delete tapa a while back, but hopefully I'll get a new phone with more storage soon. In other news, I passed my gestational diabetes 1-hour test last week! (had to take it early because of the twins) I failed the 1-hour with my daughter so I was surprised that my number was much lower this time.
