Schools aren't used here, but churches, community and some gov't buildings are.
Our election day polling place is a library in our neighborhood, but if you do early voting (which FL has always offered) you can go anywhere in your county. My parents' polling place is their country club's clubhouse, lol.

Tapa is being especially bad about hiding posts today. I wish they could fix that problem somehow. I found out this morning that one of my good friends tested positive for covid yesterday. Her husband is an antimasker, so with the way the cases are exploding here I’m not surprised. I also have a feeling they won’t be following the rules so we will not be seeing them for a long time. I feel bad for everyone they’ve been in contact with for the last week. The whole family even went trick or treating on Saturday, while she was waiting for her test results, so stupid.

nam2013, can you share your French onion soup recipe? ! I cheated a little this time... I used 300grams of pre sliced onions sautéed them in real butter untill soft and golden (might take 15-20 minutes), onion stock cubes and 1.5 liter of water. It’s best if you make it in the morning and let it stand for a bit. I’ve also made from scratch with a Jamie Oliver recipe (which has been adapted slightly, I’m not flambeing anything 😉) 500g thinly sliced brown onions 50g butter 6 garlic cloves (crushed/sliced) 1 tbsp brown sugar 1 glass white wine 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves 1 tbsp plain flour 1.5 litres beef stock Olive oil Sauté the onions in the butter until soft and golden (again takes time ) with the butter, olive oil & sugar on a low heat. When onion are done, turn the heat up & add the garlic and thyme leaves. After a few minutes ad the flour (this will thicken up the soup a little) and cook for a few minutes. Add the wine, reduce it for a bit. Add the beef stock and let simmer for at least 30 minutes. Add salt and pepper as needed. Et voila . We usually eat it with nice bread & some cheeses, originally you should put slices of stale bread with cheese in the oven and put those in the bowl and pour the soup on top.

Thank you nam2013!!I assume it turned out really nice? I just love French onion soup but have always been intimidated by it so have never had a homemade version.

Funny French onion soup story:
My dad makes really good FO soup so I volunteered for him to make some for a high school French Club function. We ended up going out of town that weekend and I sprung his ‘project’ on him at the last minute—he was not delighted.
Short on time, he bought some random cans of soup, put it all in a pot, doctored it up a bit, and I took it to the party where we did the cheese, bread, etc.
The French teacher *raved* about that soup and wanted the recipe. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ Yup...basically Progresso, lol.
