I suck at making cookies from scratch and this is the first time I've done sugar cookies to decorate... Is it normal the dough i put into the fridge to chill is still kinda sticky and not firm/dough like? It probably needs some more flour. Usually roll out dough for cutting shapes is more firm and tight.

Is it normal the dough i put into the fridge to chill is still kinda sticky and not firm/dough like? Yes that’s why it needs that refrigeration period to firm up. You may find it easier to work with if you keep it in and out of the fridge as you roll cookies later. An open window to keep the kitchen cool helps.

Is it normal the dough i put into the fridge to chill is still kinda sticky and not firm/dough like? How long did you chill? Did you cover the dough? What temp is your fridge set on? I chill mine overnight. I have found that it helps to have them uncovered at least part time. I also found that if the fridge is set too cold (H normally keeps it just above freezing) that it won't really dry the dough out enough, if that makes sense. When I do cookies, I bump the temp up to about 40° for the chill time and it seems to help.

I left the room between changing over the sheets on the kids bunk beds and they pulled the bottom mattress off to play with and are acting like it’s a full fledged amusement park of fun. Who needs a nugget?! (Just teasing, enjoy your joy)

We told the kids no ToT this morning. They were briefly disappointed then moved on. I feel like they have reached the point of "whats new" when it comes to canceled things. I'm going to try to make Saturday night fun for them still. My 7 year old planned out what he wants to do instead. 1: decorate the house and have each room be a “home” to TOT in. 2: glow sticks party with spooky stories 3: spider cupcakes I was thinking a “scary” movie and popcorn balls. I'm going to have them help me decorate cookies, make mummy hotdogs (hotdogs wrapped in strips of crescent roll like a spooky pig in a blanket) for them, and we will be doing a double feature movie night. I also found a thing where you put spider rings and cotton balls in a jar with a glow stick and I am thinking we will do that as a night light for them. I haven't decided what else we will do. I'm going to get a bag of candy too and just put it in a bowl.

We aren't trick or treating either. We did a drive thru trick or treat at a local zoo on Friday. Halloween is also my brother's birthday, so I'm a little relieved that we don't have to squish ToT in with his birthday celebrations this year.
On Saturday we are: Watching a Halloween movie. Making Halloween cookies Making caramel apples Having a glow in the dark candy hunt with creepy crawlies that glow in the dark Ordering take out per the birthday teen's request.

That reminds me. I need to double check I have what I need for our sugar cookies. I'm cheating and getting the Wilson squeeze bottles of cookie icing so I don't have to fuck around to get the right consistency and coloring and all that.

Hugs to all who need them.
Ex brought the kids home early today, so I’m finally relaxing with a cup of coffee while they play with kinetic sand.

Is it normal the dough i put into the fridge to chill is still kinda sticky and not firm/dough like? You’re basically hardening up the butter. So I wouldn’t expect it to go in sticky. I agree with others that it sounds like you need more flour. In most recipes it should be able to form a smooth ball, not a sticky ball, when it goes into the fridge.

H's aunt brought us a huge bowl of potato salad last night. She makes the best potato salad I've ever had and is as clean as the day is long so I'm super excited for dinner tonight.
I think I'll either make some chicken or pick up some chicken so I don't have to cook.
Option two is looking attractive.

I'm cheating and getting the Wilson squeeze bottles of cookie icing so I don't have to fuck around to get the right consistency and coloring and all that. I bought 2 bags of betty crocker sugar cookies and 2 cans of white frosting. When we made our first round of halloween cookies I just divided up the frosting in bowls and food colored them. Dd had alot if fun and it was super cheap and simple. We'll be repeating with the second bag and can on halloween.

If I don’t get to use my peloton tread today I’m going to snap on my family. It got delivered Thursday. Do you think I could get 30 minutes to myself to use the damn thing? I got up at 5am yesterday to use it before everyone woke up and they heard me sneak downstairs and decided to get up too. I feel like I just wasted $5,000 on a decoration for my office.

Today has the potential to get weird. They are warning us of power shut offs because it’s the worst fire conditions of the year. I think it’s more for north of me but it’s still got me second guessing if I want to put a whole bunch of chicken in the crockpot and go to the store like I was planning.
Also I’m hooked on the quilt project I started yesterday and only want to do that today but I have to do my Sunday chores and campaign volunteering. Boo.

I mentioned this in the Saturday thread but DS and I watched the new Witches movie last night and it was so good. We read the book this summer so it was fun to watch together. They made some changes to the storyline but in such a good way. And Octavia Spencer is just a delight. I’m not one for kids movies but I loved it.

Maybe the recipe accounted for the extra flour needed for rolling out because like Pistol said, too much flour can change the taste.

So it’s possible you need to add slightly more flour if you live in a more humid place. I always need more liquid then is listed

H always buys his mom and dad breakfast on Sundays so he hurried home from work to get mil and bil their breakfast to drop off and picked dd up to take with him out fils. I'm home alone. On a Sunday morning with coffee. It's so nice, I don't even care that my neck still hurts. That's so sweet!
