(PDQ, obviously)
Ok, so yesterday was super fun and N totally stole the show. She had everyone wrapped around her little finger.
Prior to the main event, I decorate our minivan with liquid chalk. Which of course meant it started raining when it was time for me to leave the house. So it was all runny and messed up by the time I got there. It kinda worked out though because we had to leave the staging area early to get ready for the meet & greet, so our vehicle wasn’t even in the parade.
Because of COVID and security reasons, they had those of us meeting Dr. Biden get to the site early to line up and get cleared by the Secret Service. There were a handful of campaign volunteers and two other volunteers in the meet & greet line, plus two local politicians. We ended up waiting roughly 45 minutes to an hour for her motorcade to arrive. N did surprisingly well during the wait, and kept everyone entertained. She even made friends with the Secret Service agent stationed near our end of the lineup.
(Fun aside: N knows that princesses have knights who keep them safe, so I explained that the Secret Service agents were Dr. Biden’s knights. So then she kept asking if X person or Y person was a knight.)
Shortly before the motorcade arrived, N started getting antsy. MH was standing outside the secure area watching, and so when she said she had to use the bathroom I told her to run to daddy. I am not kidding, within minutes of them going into the building to find a bathroom, the motorcade arrived. Thankfully, I was at the end of the lineup, with only the two local politicians after us. As soon as they came out, I was motioning for her to run. The second she started running back to me, her damn shoe came off! The mayor had been watching her too, and the two of us were just cracking up. Thankfully, she made it back to me when Dr. Biden was two people away.
Dr. Biden was super nice, even when N ran to give her a hug. I was mentally cringing because of COVID, lol. Dr. Biden got down on her level and talked with her about how old she was, her Barbie, etc. N even let Dr. Biden hold her princess Barbie, which was super adorable, and enjoyed showing off the dress that she picked out especially for the event.
You should have heard the cameras going off while she was talking with us. It was nuts. There’s one video clip MH found where you can hear the camera shutters increased when she gets to us.
After she went down the rest of the line, the organizers pulled her and the two local politicians to the side of the road for the parade. As we were waiting for the caravan to arrive, Dr. Biden turned around and waved for N to come stand with her (I wasn’t expecting it, so I kinda looked around like “what do I do”, but N just ran for it). She put N between her and the mayor, and chatted with her while we waited. Then she encouraged her to wave at the cars when the parade started, and would check on her every so often. It was super cute to watch her wave with Dr. Biden and the mayor. You can see me behind them in videos, looking (and feeling) extremely awkward.
I tried to make some GIFs to show y’all, but it wasn’t working. So I’ll just link to some Twitter posts with video clips. I’ll probably delete the links in a day or so since they are obviously very triangulating.
(This one shows the cute doll exchange, and there’s a second one in the replies that shows the part of the parade)
(Another one of her talking with us.)
(More of the parade)
