Yeah, my doctor pretty much said losing weight might help but not enough to get rid of the machine. But then when I did lose weight I started having issues with my machine. Basically my mouth would open and air would start coming out and H complained that it was as loud as snoring. So then I started sleeping without it and he said I wasn’t snoring anymore. So I talked to my doctor and we redid my sleep study. Then he said it was actually mild and as long as I slept on my side, I could go without the cpap. It worked until it didn’t. Ugh. I should have just kept it in case, but, as you know, it can be kind of pricey. Lesson learned. I do think regardless of weight things are just crowded in that part of my body. I have a small airway and a slightly enlarged thyroid, so I just need help. Plus while I’m very good at starting to sleep on my side, I don’t always stay that way. My H has this issue sometimes. He has a chin strap to keep his mouth shut. Much sexy. 🤣 The real annoyance is when he manages to open his mouth even with the chin strap. Oh gosh. Yeah, I’ve seen the chin straps and hacks to make it better but honestly it kind of frightens me. Like I want to be able to open my mouth when I’m sleeping. I just told H I’m getting my cpap back so I can move back into the bedroom. He sighed and said the cpap is noisy too. So I guess I just sleep in the guest room permanently now. Oh well.

Everyone that is paying for covid testing really needs to check their bills and make sure they are coding things correctly because it should not cost. greenolive you keep saying you have to pay the co-pay and we keep saying you don't. Take the time and find spots that are covid testing without a doctor's visit. My sister did not have to go in she called her doctor and said what do you think and he said go to a testing spot.

CPAPs are noisy but not nearly as noisy as snoring. Would he be open to a sound machine to drown out the CPAP? H's really isn't *that* noisy.

angelashly I think that is regional. The wait for free city tests was over a week here, results took another 10ish days after that, at the time my H was sick. Our tests were "free", but you still have to pay for your doctor visit. We hadn't met our deductible yet, so they were $150 a pop.

When I posted about symptoms that my state (with a very good respite the pandemic) deems test worthy many many people thought he was nuts and over the top and diminished it to the sniffles when it was more than that. So it’s not just olive. Some said test to make him happy, but even though my state thinks it was test worthy dh was dragged. So. Okay but you said you had no other symptoms other than being stuffy and your symptoms had already subsided by the time you posted. You yourself thought it was allergies and that your H was overreacting. And as I recall, there were a lot of differing opinions so I don't even know what you're trying to say here.

Yeah, it was fine when I had it before until I started the mouth breathing thing which was when I think I didn’t need the cpap as much. I will see how it goes and maybe he will be open to it. He doesn’t like any noise when he’s sleeping. Which I get. I can do sound machines, etc but certain noises do bug me. Like his phone alerts that go off. 🙄 Maybe this is just where we are in life. At least the guest room is nice. And I get the dogs. Lol.

It really is crazy to me how regional testing is. In my state, you don't even qualify for testing unless you are currently experiencing two symptoms. So if congestion is the only current symptom, you couldn't get a test even if you wanted to. Honestly, it would not even cross my mind to get testing if I had a sore throat, which then stopped and I was congested the next day. But that way of thinking is molded by my region and its testing/messaging, so (obviously) everyone is going to approach this differently.

I am surprised that Ohio isn't charging if they could get away with charging That doesn't stop the dr office from charging for the appointment. Just the test. Many places require a referral to get a test at the drive up sites. You can't just show up or make your own appointment.

Again I am fine with people not testing and just staying home if they are sick, especially if it costs more money than you have, but then you assume you have it and you stay home

But either way, the eye rolls and #breezy award seekers in this thread are something. A woman said her family was dealing with a viral illness - not allergies, so not sure why those came up; not "the sniffles," so not sure why that was the take away. But a "cold," including many of the symptoms - fever, congestion, etc - that might indicate COVID. Said person is allowed sick leave from their job, and I believe I read the option to work at home, but refused to get tested for COVID bc they don't want to quarantine. Later the co-pay was brought up, though I think that would bear some research. And therefore are going to go into their office and not say anything to the other people there. People who may themselves be high risk, or live with those who are high risk, or even care for those who are high risk. I don't care who you are, I would have had the same reaction for you with that set of circumstances. And all the attempts to make the situation presented here the same as other situations that are, in fact, not the same as this situation presented here are rather odd. I know caping for Olive is the en vogue thing right now, but this time, it's missing the mark significantly.

If someone in my family got sick again, we would stay home. It would cause issues with my job, however. I have already been accused of "taking advantage of the covid thing" while my H was actively sick. I wasn't trying to cape for her, but just point out that it's not that easy for everyone.

Hi fellow sleep apnea friend! You are not a failure. I have to use a CPAP, and it makes functioning so much easier. Going back on it is not bad, it is just going to help you feel human again. I felt bad when I was first diagnosed, but I feel so much better with it that I don’t care anymore. It helps me be healthier in general (and obviously in sleep!). Plus my dad also has it, and he lost 200lbs and still needs his. So weight is not the only factor. Get you some good sleep Yeah, my doctor pretty much said losing weight might help but not enough to get rid of the machine. Yeah, the cost stinks, especially with a high deductible insurance plan (fucking healthcare system). Constant replacement parts kill me. I also always start sleeping on my side, but often wake up on my back. At least with the CPAP my husband doesn’t have to shake me awake in the middle of the night anymore 😂

Basically like light white noise. Was your prior CPAP kind of old? I have the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP Machine with Heated Humidifier and H doesn’t even notice it.

In your thread I posted i would not test for your symptoms you posted about so I'm consistent to say the least 😆 Right and many said that too but what I meant was the state thinks a test is warranted and since most of us aren’t doctors maybe their guidance is a little more informed than our guesses but it’s neither here nor there I couldn’t get anything quick so I stayed home anyway. I am fortunate I can easily just stay home when in doubt.

my CPAP anecdote is that H has one and he is very, very skinny. it's not only a weight thing, though of course that can contribute. his is also very quiet, even when it's kicking out air. unless he leaves it on top of the pillow to go to the bathroom which was shut down swiftly. otherwise i hardly notice the noise.

That symptoms some may think are a cold or allergies (which is what I thought) some states health dept think warrant a test. I know it is regional and perhaps olives state wouldn’t think it worthy but I thought he was being wild until I checked with my state health department and then tried to get a test to be sure since they’re the experts not me. Is all. I was sneezing and congested and MA wants that tested. I realize this is likely the most regional thing there is, but that I would defer to doctors and health depts over, well, anything else? Not a big deal really.
