I have a tall rubbermaid tub without its lid next to each toilet in the house. Id cut a hole in the lid and make them go in that way, but 1 cat really cant jump, and another is getting old. So no lid.
The lid actually is used as a cat placemat under food and water cause they spill and the lip catches spills.
Since its next to toilet, when I sit once a day or so I scoop into trash can and fold over the bag tight and that limits the smell a lot. And its contained in bathrooms that have odor removing fans and plug ins and such.
I like the crystals cat litter but stopped using it when male cat was drinking tons of water to try to prevent urinary crystals. Similar for clumping. I use almost cheapest litter right now to save money

I agree with Arm & Hammer Slide litter and a Litter Genie to scoop into. The Genie keeps everything in a lower compartment so you don’t smell anything until you cut the bag and throw it all away in one bundle on trash day.

We have a regular, open box and use either the Sam's Club brand of litter or Tidy Cats Febreeze. We have also used Arm & Hammer, but I couldn't tell a difference in it. One litter box is in the living room tucked behind a shelf and the other one is in the hall closet. We have three cats and while the youngest (4 months old) tracks litter on the shelf, the other two do not. We also don't smell the litter box, but we scoop 2-3 times a week. In my opinion, the frequency of cleaning the litter is what makes the difference, followed by the brand of litter. Neutering your cat also matters. Those hormones make cat pee stink worse.

What litter are you using? We find a clumping one is key to stink management. We do use clumping litter. H came home with arm & hammer yesterday.

But if i can feed her in something he can't get to that would be ideal.

If you have the money, the litter robot is amazing. I wasn’t about to spend that kind of money, but my sister got one and said it was the best thing ever. So I followed suit and agree. I've been researching automatic litter boxes but they all have reviews that talk about malfunctions and stuff. I'm very intrigued and happy to hear a first hand account.

Our house is small so it’s in our bedroom because the dog and cat don’t get along. We have a top entry Mod Kat litter box and I let the litter with charcoal and I can’t smell anything. So this is kind of my problem. Our house isn't that small but the rooms I would want to put a litter box in are very small or the dog could get to it. It's very annoying because I have plenty of room in the living spaces/ bedroom but I just don't want to put them there. Very very first world problems.

Once I get one with a hood I'll put it downstairs because then the dog won't be able to get it. We don't have it in any of our bedrooms because we close our doors at night (because she likes to jump on our heads.) I moved it into the bathroom closet for now. I appreciate you all going on this journey with me.
