I think I am going to do my front entrance and closet. I had hung a sign with hooks up for masks but somehow that fell down and the closet is a mess. I feel like if I start at the front of the house and move my way back I might be productive.

I’m really focusing on avoiding stuff shifting. Putting things away and if it won’t fit where it should go then I declutter to make room. The concept of everything being a container was a light bulb moment for me 5 years ago. Combined with Marie Kondo’s concept of sparking joy, it helps me not keep holding onto stuff because it is useful/practical or I might need it someday. Why have 18 million ball point pens when 99% of the time I use a flair pen or my ink joys?
Right now I am focusing on cleaning out the kitchen/pantry. Lunch containers and water bottles are next up. If it’s a pain to wash/use/store it is outta here. A 10X10 kitchen for a family of 5 isn’t full of extra space. I need to eliminate the stuff we have outgrown.

This is my issue - I make piles that I plan on dealing with because I hate visual clutter. But then I don't deal with the piles. I have been trying to live by the mantra "only touch something once." So put it where it belongs the first time. Still a work in prgoress.

I really want to reorganize the Lego situation here. I know it's been discussed in here numerous times so I won't ask. I'm thinking of getting those rolling carts with the clear drawers from Michael's. I would actually need two of them. I tried the carts and they've been a nightmare. My kids have zero interest in putting away legos by color, so now I have the cart with a few random legos in each drawer and a plastic tote where the rest are tossed. I'd love to hear any solutions you come up with because we (*me) are struggling!

How do you guys organize your photos? Printed- I have one large album from my parents prom through my childhood. Then I have one album from my college years through present. (I had a massive box from high school that I picked my favorites and threw out the rest) Digital- folders by year or quarter in google photos. Special occasions like Christmas or vacation their own folders.

This week for me is all about expiration date clean out. Food and medicines. I need to do this. I was hoping fridge and pantry this weekend. I should do some more rooms, I have been getting the urge to redecorate but don't have the money for that. But reorganizing and decluttering does give me the same happy feeling haha. I will have to watch The Home Edit and get inspired.

Haha, not my definition of organization. At all. They like to build, walk away, come back etc. If we had this thing it would just lay on the floor like that for weeks. "I'm working on that!" Is not an uncommon phrase over here.

Is not an uncommon phrase over here. Ohh that's a really good point. Maybe something big and flat on wheels that could go under a couch or something? They have so many Lego, that my youngest wants to have a sale. Like a lemonade stand on the sidewalk but with grab bags for sale. We told them we won't buy more until they get rid of some and this was his solution. I'll support it🤷🏼♀️

I have a current personal goal that I would like to oraganize one thing in my home a day. I already missed yesterday. Tuesday was underwear drawer for MH and I. Monday was my desk in my bedroom. Today more than likely will be a touch up of my upstairs hall closet. I feel like some things need to be moved around. Upcoming projects are a redo of my pantry. My master closet. I want to build an organizer for our closet so bad but (as we learned the hard way) lumber prices are unreal right now. I also want to build a bench to redo the entryway closet but again, lumber is ridiculous. I need to design this. I ordered a ton of lumber through work at the beginning of quarantine - now you can't get that shit at all! My plan was to redesign the closet and have DH build it out. We have the materials so I really should just whip something up lol. perfectionist procrastination at work

Now I have a giant role of paper. H laughs when he sees me pull that and my drafting kit out. Then groans because it usually means more work for him. 🤣

@sweetjane that’s a great perspective! I think today I’ll get the dress up stuff ready for donation in time for Halloween. Then that will be one more thing out of my livingroom. I’ve got baking soda and vinegar setting on my oven door and will attempt to scrub that in like ten min. I’m going to watch some of the you tube org/cleaning videos mcbenny recommended in the cleaning sub and try to get some ideas beyond Pinterest. Definitely going to do the bathroom floor today. The floor cleaner I got from quill is amazing. It’s probably overkill for the house but I used it to clean my kitchen floor on my hands and knees the other day before setting down my new sink rug and holy crap it got dirt off that floor I didn’t think existed. It is industrial hospital/nursing home/day care stuff but I just dilute it a bit more and it’s incredible. I think I am going to be productive today. Already have done yoga, got the kids into their “classroom “, showered, and two loads of laundry. It’s 930! Sweetjane edit the tag Edit I meant I edited my tag for you. Side note Jane is one of my daughters middle name and sometimes I call her my little sweet Jane bc the name is after my favorite aunt and she’s as sweet as candy.

Lurker here who is jumping in! I am using my local “Buy Nothing” Facebook group to re-home things around the house that we no longer need. It takes more time than just donating to goodwill but I feel happy knowing the stuff is getting put to use right away.

cooperation I have been doing this too! It's also nice because I just leave stuff at the end of my driveway and it just disappears . No driving anywhere and most if the time it's out if my house the same day.

I made myself a list for the weekend that I think is actually doable, lots of it relating to DS's new bed we should be getting on Monday.
-Go through DS's fall clothes and rotate/see what's needed -Same with mine -Wash his new sheets and donate the old ones -Find new storage/home for art supplies currently under his toddler bed -Clear and clean my night stand/shelf in my corner of the room

I posted a lot of boys shoes today around 10am, bagged them up and put them on my front porch and they were gone by 3pm. The mom wrote to me this evening to say her son has been wearing his new boots ever since they got home. Win win situation for sure!

This now-clean shelf was a result of inspo from this thread and the crystal one. DH built me this shelf about a year ago for my minimal jewelry collection. It holds my stones and favorite EOs to use in the bedroom diffuser.

This was the project I tackled last weekend. I finally went through the huge container of clothes from DD1 and organized them by size into cubes that I was able to fit into the toddler's closet. It looks so much better and is so much easier to go through than when it was in that giant bin and now I have extra space in the office closet. The cubes don't match but I just used what we had on hand.

Today's project is our closet. I need ideas on how to store my purses and bags that are currently just spread across the top shelf. Also how to organize this pile of shirts that don't fit in my dresser. They are on a shelf in the closet currently. I'm hoping to purge a lot but just want things to look a lot nicer than they do now. Pics under spoiler.

Well I did get a project done today and I feel good about it! In addition to reorganizing I feel like I can meal plan better after looking at everything I have. Fridge, freezer, pantry and medicine cabinet have been cleaned out and there is nothing expired left. Whew. I found some baby shit that expired in 2013 🙈. Next project will be defrosting the deep freeze, cleaning and organizing it.

Or I wanted to organize it a certain way and couldn't at the time cause of time constraint or I didn't have what I say I need. I learned that there were others like me through learning my organizing style and now I can just organize it well enough for now with intention of coming back later.

Ok so this weekend I made up for the days I skipped. First I did my pantry. I love my pantry and pre covid I was to switch over to prettier bins as the system I have had been working for us. I said no I don't have to go through it. I'm on top of it. Lol 😂 😂 then I recalled I have someone else living with us which is part of the issue cause shit we don't buy or use is all in my space. So I go through the pantry and lo and behold so much trash. Expired dressings and chips and snacks. I try to buy onky what we need for the week pre covid but my BFF does not do that. I thought cereal didn't expire for years. I need to take a pic of pantry now.

So I went through all my kitchen cabinets but I still have the bottom ones left. I did pantry. I cleaned fridge. Except side shelves need to be done today. I need to do freezer. Then I had DD do her closet and I supervised. The issue was she threw so many clothes on the floor to where you couldn't see the floor. So she stopped going in there. We created a donation pile and most keeps need to be washed. Pic was mid point. Sorry for hair ball named Vanessa in the floor. I forgot to take a before pic.

McBenny in Clutterbug terms, I am a cricket and my husband is a butterfly. I have really had to embrace good enough for now organization knowing I can go back and improve later. The multipurpose bins from the Container store are my favorite thing ever for organizing my pantry and making it pretty. The are translucent so you can see inside, but a little opaque so things don’t feel too visually overwhelming. The large size holds 2 rows of canned goods perfectly for grouping. We use the medium size for dumping boxes of snacks/pouches in groups.

Mostly finished our master closet yesterday and also tackled our linen closet. I ordered shelf dividers for my bags on top and for the folded clothes on the shelf. The girls have so many homemade blankets they don't use but I didn't want to get rid of. I did get rid of lots of old sheets and pillows.
