Ultrasound appt this week to check on kidneys. Hoping they didn't get too much worse and that they don't find anything new! Going to have them check my cervix again as well since standing on my feet for a long time and exercise has started to give me some pressure!

I have a long ass appointment with the MFM on Friday.
9:45 - gestational diabetes consult
10:30 - growth US followed by meeting with MFM
My dad is coming with me to the appointment because he has type 1 diabetes and I figured he may have some questions I may not think of. And it turns out he does! He reached out to his online community and found out all sorts of info from women who had GD, so I know he'll be asking a lot of questions.

Any feels/vents/etc? Boring appointment, no reason for my spotting was identified. My ultrasound showed my cervix was closed.

Had a really boring appt today. As a high risker, boring is very good. Normal BP, HB good, urine good. That was it! I lost two pounds since my last appt though. I guess I can't complain.

I went in on Monday after a weekend of contractions. I had in irritable uterus last pregnancy, and it seems to have returned.
During Monday's appointment, I had the fetal fibronectin test to predict possibility of preterm labor, a cervical exam, a urinalysis, and a Non-stress test.
The cervical exam showed my cervix to be closed but soft. The NST did not pick up any contractions, but I knew that would be the case since they had calmed down since I left my house. The fFN came back positive, which means I could go into labor within the next two weeks. The Dr doesn't put much into a positive, since the negative result better tells the chances of not going into labor than the positive tells of going into labor. I was told to "take it easy" and stay hydrated.
When I got home, I looked up the medical info on the fFN - pretty much a negative result means that I have a 99.7% chance of not having a baby in the next two weeks. A positive means I have a 20-50% chance of having a baby in the next two weeks. I KNOW that means I have a 50-80% chance of not having a premie, but still, it's scary. A 27-29-weeker is not the strongest of premies.
Plus, it's so NOT EASY to "take it easy" when I'm SAHMing to a 5-yr-old and wild-child 3-yr-old.
So, that's that.

versed oh my. Is there anyone nearby to help out? A high school kid who could come over some afternoons to play with the kids? TV, while maybe not a favorite, will not damage them forever either and if it helps keep baby cooking then thats actually better for the family as a whole. I'm so sorry for the news.

Thanks ladies - I do need to find a mother's helper nearby. For now, my sister is going to try to come tomorrow, and aside from swim lessons for 30min/day, I really am letting the kids have lots of TV and iPads.

I would try to get help for the peak hours, even if it's just a mothers helper and have zero guilt if my boys were watching tv, iPad play etc. The + FFN isn't a sure thing as your Dr told you. I'm sorry for this unexpected appointment today. ETA I wrote my post like an hour ago but just sent it. Looks like we are all thinking the same thing!

Feeling really good actually, no concerns! It's so nice to have A/C this pregnancy. With DD (a sept baby) my feet/legs/hands and everything really swelled up once we hit June-ish and never got better until post delivery. This time around I am not swollen at all and can sleep way better, yay for central air!
Did my GTT on Friday and I have my regular midwife appointment tomorrow morning. I expect a fairly normal/boring appointment, just curious to see what my iron levels are. On to two week appointments now too! Crazy!!

versed I'm so sorry to read the news of your PTL risk. I echo what everyone else has said and I hope you can find someone to help during the day with the kids. While I was on strict bedrest for 4 months (8 - 24 weeks), I did find that DS (even though he's only 2) was able to eventually understand that Mom couldn't get up and play with him anymore, because she was sick. It was really hard to see his disappointment in the beginning, of course, but eventually it clicked for DS and he stopped trying to pull me off the bed or the couch. Instead, he'd say things like, "Mommy's just laying there! Mommy's sick. Mommy has a baby in her tummy and has to lay there." Hopefully your kids will grasp the situation and cut you some slack Like everyone else said - TV, iPads, movies, pizza delivery, quick meals - do whatever you have to do to get through these next few months. No judgement from anyone - it's for the health of your LO and that is your priority. It's just temporary. Big hugs and drink lots and lots of water!!!

versed - fingers crossed that baby stays in! Appointment was okay today. The hydronephrosis is getting bigger (sort of as expected since baby is bigger). It seems to be in the moderate/severe category so we will be followed by ultrasound monthly. They really just want the amniotic fluid levels to be normal (which they are!) and the bladder a normal size (which it is!). The doc didn't seem concerned. I'd like to hear what the urologist says but we won't be going there for awhile. I guess if the baby is going to end up needing a procedure I will have to accept it and hopefully all will go well and we can put this behind us!

versed, Big hugs...just saw this. It is HARD wrangling 2 kids and it's easier said than done. To be honest, a desk job is potentially more relaxing than taking care of kids. I hope at least your 5 yr old can somewhat help entertain your 2 yr old. DS is 3 and is super active and in the last 2 weeks has finally caught on that mommy can't wrestle, play catch, go for walks or hide and seek with him. DS started bringing books to me so we can read together throughout the day which has been so nice. It helps tremendously that my mom is here. I hope you're able to find help. The good thing is it's summer holidays and there are actually loads of HS or college kids at least in my neighborhood that posted on our local next-door forum whom are looking for baby sitting gigs. Do you belong in a church? if so could you reach out to them to see if anyone close by could help you. I also asked about doing a FFN test last week but my Dr said in my case it's a total crap shoot and if + it still isn't completely conclusive and in my condition, probability is much higher plus test is expensive and said it'll just cause me more anxiety but of course if I wanted we could do it so we just decided to leave it alone and let it just be. It isn't ideal for baby to be out now but I am really amazed at how much more advanced neo-natal care is these days from the research I've been doing. If you haven't already, just to put your mind at ease a little, find out which hospital closest to you has Level 3 NICUs which has advanced care for 32wks and under so at least you're able to put a plan in place or something. That really helped me a great deal and not feel so anxious and helpless. Every hospital has different NICU levels. I felt better that I don't have to be flown to another state; I would be sent to a hospital 1.5 hrs away.

I had my 3 hr Glucose test this Monday. I saw my results pop up on the portal yesterday afternoon. It appears I passed however the numbers on 2 were marginal. Waiting to hear back from my OB about it. Personally I would consider myself borderline and need to keep my blood sugar in check but I am no physician so I don't know how to make a diagnosis based on the the test results. Regardless ever since my appt. last week and the fact that I had glucose in my pee sample, I started making dietary changes which isn't really too much of a big deal for me. essentially going back to my usual habits pre-pregnancy so no more eating a bag of PF cookies, no crumpets, etc. and just basiclaly cutting out all refined carbs and upped my protein. Honestly after a week of this, I actually feel less bloated, tired and not so gassy in the evenings. No desserts makes me sad though but it's ok!

Thanks duskymonkey for offering some rational thinking to my insanity! The 5-yr-old is responding better to helping since my belly is hurting. I think I found some resources to find helpers, which is good, but I hadn't thought of the church - that's a good one. I'm pretty lucky that the hospital where I deliver is the only level III NICU in the state, so that is reassuring! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I Actually did the same thing after I got my GD diagnosis. Cut the carbs. Focusing on protein and fat. I actually noticed I haven't had heartburn since I've made the change. That alone is enough to keep the change, even if I didnt have the GD.

mkrupar, we still need carbs for pregnancy and as long as they're unrefined and whole grains, it's ok I think however I am no nutritionist. Do you know if they're hooking you up with a dietician/nutritionist? I am curious to know what sort of plan. #Nosey

Had my appointment this morning. Everything looks good, measuring right on track, HB was good. Baby is moving like a maniac so midwife said to only do kick counts if I notice something feels off. I can normally get the number of movements needed for an hour at a traffic light, this baby literally never stops unless DH tries to feel it haha. GTT and iron test results were good. Onto every 2 week appointments now!

Consult went well today. I apparently just barely failed the glucose test (like 1 hour was by 1 point and 2 hour was by 5 points). MFM said she had seen much worse numbers before. She also told me i barely passed my 3 hour with DD, which i didn't know. I just knew I passed.
Got all of my testing supplies and talked about nutritional guidelines. I have an appointment with the dietician next Wednesday to get more information from them. A little overwhelming, but it definitely helped to have my dad there.
Other updates: Growth scan went well. He's back in the "normal" range for gestational age. She did mention his belly was a little big, but that's to be expected with uncontrolled sugars.
Apparently my OB never told the MFM about my pre-eclampsia diagnosis and didn't send her the test results from my L&D visit or my 24-hour urine test. Once she heard about the visit to L&D and the diagnosis, she changed our monitoring 0lan and I now have to go every week for NST/BPP scans (the plan was to start those at 32 weeks).
She says we're definitely looking at a RCS and cannot guarantee I can avoid magnesium this time around during delivery. She's confident she can get me to 37 weeks so ling as the pre-eclampsia stays in the moderate range and doesn't developed in to the severe form.
So I'll basically be living at the office for at least the next 9 weeks (fingers crossed we make it that far).
Next appointments are next Friday. Regular OB and NST/BOP.
