Got the news today that I do need to go work from my empty classroom while the kids are virtual. I go from “how is this going to work?” to “it is what it is” to “let me have another cocktail on the beach and figure this out when it happens in 6 days.” Did anyone else spend their whole pregnancy and maternity leave perfecting your childcare plan and now it’s like, whatever you plan is going to change an hour from now?

kim22 that really sucks and is so stupid. How do they expect teachers to do this? They should give parents the option to wfh or in the classroom with their own kids present. The short notice is something else too. 😒 wedding I'm sorry about the cancelled trip. Damn that Rona.

inthekitty I was attempting to learn to knot earlier this year...I had a problem where the more stitches I make , the tighter the yarn would get to the point where I couldn't move the needles. I ended up getting frustrated and giving up with only 1 row done. Any tips? Definitely sounds like you were just pulling the yarn too tight. I still do that sometimes and used to do it constantly. It's ok to let each stitch be a little loose because as the pattern comes together it joins together more.

Yes. The chunkier the yarn the quicker the project will go because you need fewer stitches. If you're using a chunky yarn, get fatter needles. I would start with a super easy project--make a dishcloth. Maddie is making one now with a medium sized yarn. Cast on 20 stitches then just do knit stitch for as many rows long as you want it to be. You'll also want to get little plastic needles (they look like bigger sewing needles) to weave in the ends of your project. Youtube "knitting casting on" for how to get started. Then for the following rows search for "knit stitch." At the end search "binding off." It sounds like a lot, but honestly it's not bad. You could call me/zoom if you need me to walk you through anything. Woah! I don't know this language! Can I get supplies on Amazon or do you recommend somewhere more knitting reputable? I know, it's like another language at first. Don't let it intimidate you because it's not as bad as it sounds. I've slowly gotten more adventurous over time with learning new stitches and patterns, but you can do a lot with the basics. You can get supplies from Amazon or Michael's. I prefer bamboo needles but plastic or metal are fine. If you have a knit shop in town it would be easier to start there because they could direct you to exactly what needles and yarn would be best. Skip the fancy, expensive alpaca yarn until you're a bit more experienced. Just get something that's less expensive, but still soft (unless you just want it for dish clothes--it wouldn't matter if it was course), and the right thickness.

kim22, i’m so sorry. MHs union and admin each send a new email every day with what the new plan might be because the town over the border had a spike and lots of teachers live there and I’m guessing many parents work there. Until the day they are actually supposed to show up I will just keep summer-ing!

I tried knitting years ago, I kept adding stitches and I created a very lopsided blanket. I gave up after that.

I facebook stalked M's teacher. We actually went to high school together. But I'm very happy and excited for him. She's optimistic and positive and determined to have a great year no matter what. I think mindset is going to be half the battle this year and I'm glad she's got a great one.

MH will be home at least until January and a lot of his team is on the west coast so hopefully he can start a little later to get T going at least. We are going to see what happens and if it’s a mess, we will see if one of our babysitters can come help him for 2 hours a day. We are fortunate that the older 2 are independent and that we have the means to hire help if needed. I feel so bad for people without options.

And snail mail disinfectant.

I will be alone in the room so I should not have to even have a mask once I get to my room. We were going to be getting ac in every school next year but now the money is gone so we aren’t. Also, remember how I busted my ass to take 30 credits in 5 months? Won’t be seeing that raise either. Perhaps I’ll change careers to trophy wife?

I’m sorry, kim22. It’s like getting whiplash trying to plan for anything right now. Hoping you don’t have to cancel, wedding. Things aren’t looking good for January, but maybe by some miracle they will turn around soon enough for you to feel comfortable keeping your arrangements.

Hey. As predicted, I was up a lot last night. I’m tired and a bit irritable today. We ran out to Starbucks because pumpkin is back! They are doing virtual open houses at H’s school today. All it was is a slideshow with some info about the teacher and classroom. There was a video H watched to show her where her classroom is. I hope you all stay safe and don’t lose power tgrimesDid you notice if the salted caramel mocha is back? The fanfare for my favorite drink of all time is always lost, playing second fiddle to PSL. I didn’t look. However, the other day at target I saw they are selling that flavor of creamer so at least you can kind of make it at home. Oh! I just checked the app and it is on there so they should have it!

You have to keep the yarn loose in your hands and not pull it super tight on the needles with each stitch. I say that like I knit regularly, it’s been years since I have.

I hope things start improving and the government gives schools supplemental money so they can fix all the things this pandemic has caused issues with.
