has anyone ever built a small closet in an existing room before? We need to add one to a basement bedroom before we sell (about 48"x24"x76").
If you've built one, how much did it cost (approx). I'm trying to figure out if it's cheaper to just buy a wardrobe and make it a built in

I have, but I don't know what the cost of that particular portion of the project cost. It was super easy, if you're comfortable with building walls. The hardest part is putting in the door. For cost you are likely talking about 1 sheet of drywall, 8ish 2x4s, plus the door, closet fixtures and baseboard. Would you wire in a light? You could do it in a weekend, except perhaps allowing for drywall putty and paint to dry.

My Grandma added one a few years ago. The materials weren't bad, under $500 for drywall, paint, wood, lighting, etc. But she was planning on selling so they ended up needing a permit (because by adding a closet it made the room an official bedroom), and they hired and electrician to wire the light. They also had some sort of issue with HVAC needing moved or built around to keep it up to code. In the end, I think it was in the $1500-2000 ballpark.

I thought this was going to be a closet organization thread. Whomp whomp.
I'll see myself out.
