I wonder if your mom and my dad live on the same side of town. My dad said this morning that he hasn't seen a single Alliant vehicle or other lineman truck this whole time. He thinks he'll be the last one in town to get power back. It is just devastating. And yes, fuck Trump. But also fuck Reynolds, Grassley, and Ernst for not pushing and demanding more. Grassley said he was pretty sure T would eventually sign the rest. Uh, that's not ok. People need help NOW. Maybe. NW area. My friend also from Iowa said her neighbor there said the 27 counties not given relief to voted blue in 2016, but I asked for a source on that. To me the article made it sound like it was Reynolds writing the different versions and trump only ok’d the partial one, which fuck him for tweeting that he signed the whole thing, but also individuals are the ones in so much trouble right now. I still can’t believe it took a week for it to be sent to Trump. Reynolds should have been on that (Last) Tuesday morning. I’m sick of these ducking politicians not actually acting on behalf of their constituents.

I am trying to keep this vague but his backyard butts up to the large place where people live on that side of town. His house is down close to the river, kind of. Does that make sense? Things are so bad in this state. This just adds to it.

Before my mom moved many years ago, she also lived in that same neighborhood (in 2 separate/different houses).

jaygee - the kids are at my mom's in the North Bay - DD told me about the raining ash on FT and I basically had to stifle a panic attack. We evacuated from her house two years ago the night of the big fires at midnight with orange walls on either side of the valley. Its just too much. As always I think it’s worse up there. But I also haven’t been outside in over 24 hours so there’s that. We are getting it from all sides right now.

We unfortunately are getting an inversion from the Loyalton fire in NV.

They started this yesterday even after he said he would stop. This is so infuriating. It's absolutely not enough to cease changes. They have to undo this mess immediately. Dejoy is a total dickbag.

I think this is the straw that breaks my stress level. I’m so worried. And I’m listening to the public announcements and they are like “remember COVID safety measures when you evacuate” and I’m just like that fuck this, fuck that cat.
Just to be clear, I am safe and not in an evacuation zone. I’m just worried about my state.

I get the feeling that most Americans don’t care about any regional area that isn’t their own. I know when Nebraska flooded last year, I felt like nobody cared that my town was covered in water and evacuated. Same with Iowa. Same with California. Same with Puerto Rico. Same with New Orleans after Katrina. Idk how to make people care about relief and aid of people that are a part of our country. But I also don’t know how to help 😞

But I also don’t know how to help 😞 My church partners with a relief org, so at least some of the tithes and offerings go to helping those in need. I donate beyond that, but again, it's hard to make people see that things that happen outside their circle of influence matter and are a big deal.

ldubhawksfan, my dad called me tonight and said he was getting power back finally. Crews were working near his house at about 5:30. 10 freaking days without power. I just can’t. Hopefully your mom gets it back tonight too!

It's hard to expend energy and resources on strangers when you're struggling with your own necessities, as many people are right now. And of course it's much easier to bury your head in the sand and pretend everything is a-ok, even when the Titanic is tipped over and sinking.

Esp the people with privelege, white, well off, their Titanic isn't tipping over like everyone elses, but they aren't going around helping those in need. The line between the haves and the have nots, and the haves, just not caring about the have nots.
