It’s been a whole day and I’m still not done processing that they really saw this and said “yeah! Hit post!” I just came here to post this. WTAF

regal it’s so cringe it’s hard to believe it’s real life. My favourite comment is from Cindy, the conservative voter who says this will undermine her efforts to convince her adult children to vote conservative 🤣🤣🤣 you’re not wrong, Cindy.

That made me LOL. I have a few friends who were hardcore conservatives, not so much anymore.

MH and I had a good talk tonight about staying true to ourselves and voting NDP, not voting based on fear. We have different takes on why that matters to us, but land at the same conclusion. (It was also incredible to have an adult conversation about something other than covid.) I know that no party will ever reflect who I truly am or believe in, but I’m staying on the bus for the one that gets me closest to the place I’d like to arrive at.

How dare Trudeau call an election when he thinks he can win. The scandal. The outrage.

I currently have 2 thought: I am very conflicted. And fuck the conservatives I really strongly dislike Trudeau at this point. He’s weak and never takes a real stand on anything. His record on indigenous matters has been awful and he refuses to commit to one side or another whenever there’s a conflict. But the liberals have done good work in the last 6 months, but I don’t want that to overshadow all the anger I’ve have for them before. However one of my biggest pet peeves is when political parties spend more time telling you how bad the other guy is instead of telling you how they would make it better. Tlex MH and I had a very similar conversation on Friday. He really dislikes Singh but likes a lot of the NDPs policies, hates Trudeau and dislikes the liberals in general, will never vote conservative. I don’t have as strong feelings on Singh but feel otherwise between a rock and a hard place. We’ll probably both vote NDP again

Aaaagh same, and Jagmeet does far too much of it. Stop shit talking and just stick to the platform and relating to your voter base. It’s so off putting. I want to see that you can get along with others when it’s needed for the greater good.

I am still kind of reeling from the idea of a 36 day election cycle, even if everyone knew it was coming. 36 days?? I am very conflicted similar to what others have been saying. I've gone back and forth between Liberals and NDP over the years. I feel a lot like you do emma, I like a lot of the NDP policies and also I feel like the Liberals have done well managing Covid - but not on so many other things. I have lived in a solidly Liberal riding for the last few elections so in a lot of ways it's felt somewhat safe, but our MP is retiring and I think it may be a bigger fight this year. I need to read up more on the new candidate. I spent some time on vote compass yesterday which was interesting, the results were not surprising but it gave me some topics to look into more to see the differences between the parties.

My riding currently has no candidates confirmed. Historically we are a liberal strong hold, but went NDP provincially and I think we could federally too. CPC usually just puts in a warm body.
I hate the first past the post system and the fact that Trudeau campaigned on scrapping it and didn't deliver really pissed me off.

I agree with everyone here - I align mostly with NDP policies but the Liberals have done a good job the last year (not Trudeau, he’s done squat). I was hoping the Libs would move Freeland up to leader but maybe next time.
I saw a Reel or Tiktok or something of an interview with Singh and the reporter asked him a question about clean water on reserves and his answer solidified him as a social justice advocate imo. Might have been for show, I guess. ( answer was something along the lines of “if it’s (long term boil water advisories) not acceptable in Toronto, Vancouver, or Edmonton, then it’s not acceptable anywhere in this country” and the reporter was like “but it’ll be expensive” and Singh pretty much said “idc”)
Of course I live in conservative land and my NDP vote will go out in the wash but it is what it is.

I’m so fucking pissed the conservatives are going to take the universal childcare deal out if they were to win. I mean of course they are but also fuck right off.
The NDP is waffling on their mandatory vaccine stance and that’s pissing me off too.

Yes that’s what I am looking for, not perfection but someone who will at least throw that type of shit back on people. Like basic humanity, how on earth is getting access to clean drinking water for all Canadians an election issue, for fucks sake.

Long wooowwwww at that "invoice" Tlex, that feels like a new low even for them. Think how terrifying that would be if you were a new Canadian and didn’t understand English well, or for the elderly. Or a young person on their own for the first time with no adults to look to. 🤬

No one liked Rankin. I am not surprised by the massive loss for Liberals, but I would have hoped for more NDP gains.

Interestingly, there was a website that let you answer a series of policy questions and then show you which party you most aligned with and Liberal came dead last for me. NDP, Green, PC, Liberal in that order. Whatever the Liberals are peddling this cycle, it apparently wasn't for me.
Given the healthcare issues in this region, the conservative message would have tons of resonance. I will give the conservative government a chance.

Confused a bit, you’d give the Fed Conservatives a chance or the NS PC guy who is vastly different the UPC/CPC?

I wouldn't vote conservative on the provincial level either, but I will give the NS PC guy a chance to maybe not suck. (I live in NS, so my mind is still on the provincial election not the federal one.) I assume that the federal PC party would be a disaster and give them no benefit of the doubt.

I used Vote Compass to get a check on where I align on individual topics and got equal weighting NDP and Green Party. So that confirmed my lefty bleeding hippy heart

I just checked my new ridings results from the last election and the UCP won by 70% 😭. I hate read that dillweeds newsletter every quarter and can’t believe he won by that much.

It was asking me about my likelihood to vote for them and not giving me my results, I was too tired to realize at first.

Did you all know that the Green Party formed when the Conseravtive party split up into the UPC and CPC, and the Greens were folks who felt that neither party was conservative enough for them? I just learned that recently and am still wrapping my head around it. It does make some things about Elizabeth May make more sense, like her weird statements on pro-choice.

I’ve never really paid much attention to the Greens, probably still won’t TBH. My dot was close to the top but positioned about half way between NDP and Liberals.

Where did that info come from? I had to look up who the hell the UPC were, because they don't exist in Atlantic Canada, but it seems they are pretty recent? Green Party has been around since the 80s, and at that point there was the ultraconservative Reform Party in the mix. I was going down memory lane today about the Reform Party to my much younger co-worker as I was 10 the year that they almost became the Official Opposition but were narrowly beaten out by the Bloc. That was a crazy year for extremist parties. Good times.
