We started virtual school again today and i'm feeling so overwhelmed with trying to manage DS google classroom schedule while working full time. MH is helping out with some of it but he has to go out to work 2 days a week and is generally just terrible at time management.
After being everyone else's cheerleader for the last year and the person with the always happy bright side of life facade i can't do it anymore. I'm can't see an end to all this anymore and i have no hope left.

Ours sends out the schedule for the week on Sunday so I can see what days he might need specific materials. Other than that, DS has a white board and knows how to log himself on and off, I just remind him about the time. The first while is always a mess, so extend yourself a lot of grace. For the rest of your feelings, I’m there too. I don’t even know what the answers are anymore. Nothing seems to be working and it all sucks. eta: I also don’t mean to minimize your feelings at all. I SAH and have struggled with online learning since September. Adding full time work into the mix is...a LOT.

babybean, she is pretty good at communicating, the schedule was sent for the whole week but he has 5 classroom meets today that i need to keep an eye on the time for so he knows when to log in and my job basically revolves around being in meetings too so it's hard to keep everything on track. It's supposed to only be for 2 weeks but i have this sinking feeling they are just going to say in person is cancelled for the rest of the year if they can't get the numbers under control.

Hi Ladies, (hugs to you all) The last few months have been hard, we lost a friend in March to Covid ( The Brampton Transit driver ) we made sure my mom got her vax as soon as she was able , we are in a hotspot, and as soon as 50+ was allowed, I pushed my H, I had to get a letter to get mine early due to high risk. I really wish people would think of others, but apparently not

I really wish people would think of others, but apparently not I understand. I work in an ICU. Not the GTA but we are receiving daily transfers of GTA patients due to overflow. I keep telling my managers that we should be taking pictures for posterity and to show the public what it’s like down here in the trenches. With confidentiality of course but I’m sure a pro photographer could figure it out. I just want to fast forward to 2022. I’m sorry for the loss of your friend.

If they’re into the lessons, great, but I’m not fighting for it. As soon as there are less than 15 days left I may basically say fuck it entirely (because then they can’t be marked truant). I am back to work in 2 days and H can rarely help because of his job, and I can’t manage it all. I’ll buy an educational game for the switch and some new books and lots of art supplies. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do any of you have a guess on when we'll be able to travel between provinces? I'm wondering if it's likely I'll be able to drive to NB this late summer/fall or if that's a pipe dream.

I'd say there's a good chance the Atlantic Bubble will be open this summer. As for the rest of Canada, I'm not hopeful.

I am looking at how quickly it feels like the US went from disaster to opening up, and wondering if the vaccines will do that for us too.

I think by Aug/Sep you will be able to travel to Atlantic Canada. We are on pace to have enough of the population fully vaxxed here. Everyone should be able to have their first dose by the end of June, and there will be tremendous pressure not to miss out on another summer of tourism. Just my read. Different provinces have different cultures, but I can't see NS staying closed past August if it is even remotely viable to open up. Fall is still a very big tourist season.

I'm feeling positive today. Almost 50% of the population with one shot and I know that in my province at least, the 40 and under haven't had the chance yet. We just need 75%. I think we might be able to get pretty close.

I’m also feeling more positive about covid. Sadly I realized this when I found myself fretting more about the affordable housing crises than I thought about covid, which has held the number one spot on my anxiety charts for a really impressive run!

Well I had to bring my 7 year old to get tested last night. At first I thought it was his regular allergies, but then yesterday he started vomiting and developed a fever. Chances are its just a regular bug, but gotta be sure. Which meant I had to cancel the baby's 1st birthday supper today.

hey everyone from the dumpster fire of Canada. I have been feeling verrrry low lately. conspiracy theorist coworker is railing constantly about covid restrictions, then we had wildfires and he started saying he thinks the government started them "as a way to employ people". I am just donnnnne. We started flying ICU patients to Ontario and Saskatchewan, 3 days after the gov confirmed that there is no triage protocol because we won't need one. sideeye. One 31 year old woman died in transit yesterday and there are gov insiders on reddit saying the gov is in chaos internally and arguing over their non-plan. cool cool cool. We did make the NYT though: www.nytimes.com/2021/05/26/world/the-coronavirus-is-raging-in-manitoba-hitting-indigenous-people-especially-hard.htmlour premiere is a complete moron. he spews sooo much BS. Not shocking that indigenous people are getting hit hard, and to think at the beginning of the vaccines he was complaining that FN communities getting designated vaccinations "takes away from Manitobans". As if they're not actually also Manitobans. what a tool. I am in the hopeless place emma was in upthread I think. I hope it has gotten better for others who were in the thick of it a month ago.

CestLaVie what is the Indigenous vaccination rate like? They were prioritized here and don’t have to wait four months for their second doses, which is a relief. I was hoping that’d be the same nationwide.

I was hoping that’d be the same nationwide. they were definitely prioritized here too, and that's why the premiere was bitching that it "hurts Manitobans". the only reason I even have a vaccine is because I work with one FN that gave me one. the thing that makes me so mad is that most of the reserves around here started vaccinating random non-indigenous people when they had finished with internal vaccinations and they all got in shit over it. Like they were expected to send the vaccines back and then the province would dole them out with their slow-ass process. The FNs had a much, much more organized and efficient vaccine roll out then the province. Like using every dose and never having a stockpile. and yet the premiere was still a racist dick. sigh.

CestLaVie, i'm sorry you are feeling so low. That's awful that your premier said that, the AB premier said some shit recently about the northern indigenous communities and it's just sickening to hear from the people that are in control. Our case rate has been dropping drastically in the last 2 weeks but we still have the second highest rate in the country. Kenny announced the reopening plan this week and plans to have us fully reopen by July. I'm both excited and horrified at the through. We're only just on the downturn of our third wave, kids just went back to school and second doses are still months out. But he wants to reopen so that Stampede can go ahead and they can stop paying businesses financial assistance. I'm scared that it's going to cause a massive 4th wave and summer camps and september school gets cancelled.

I'm sorry CestLaVie, what a dumpster fire indeed. These plans keep coming out and I'm feeling the same as emma - hopeful and terrified. Ontario is somewhat slower than the others but still looking like opening up in August. I was listening on CBC yesterday and they were saying that one dose is only somewhat (I think they said 35%) effective against some of the newer variants like the one that was found in Nfld recently. So if Canada doesn't start prioritizing second doses the 4th wave could be bad. danib, I missed your post earlier but hope your little one was okay! So sorry you had to cancel the party too. So hard to lose those little moments of joy when they're all we have these days.

Notarobot i saw the same stat reported on the BBC about 1 dose only being 34% effective against the new Indian variant. It's also even more transmittable than the UK variant

ON officer of health is doing a presser now and he said they have found 300+ cases in Canada so far. Which in my mind means there are many more, especially since we are seeing testing rates go down. He's saying now that we don't have a rapid PCR test for that variant yet and so we have to do whole genome sequencing which takes a lot more time and effort. So in my mind that means we really do not have a good handle on the real number of cases here.

I saw that we’re getting ready to receive patients from Manitoba. Which, I’m glad we have the beds because 1) that means we aren’t using them and 2) we can help. But, wtf is going on that we are needing to move patients across provincial borders.
I got an appointment for my first dose and I am all up in my emotions atm. Tomorrow at this time I should have some sweet sweet mRNA coursing through my veins.

Thanks Notarobot, my son's test was negative (which I assumed). Whatever he has is pretty nasty, he's still sick, but luckily not Covid. The India variant cluster here is still under investigation trying to determine where it came from. All other cases are limited to travelers (like rotational workers) and their household members if they isolate at home, but we still don't know where this one originated. Hopefully they can figure it out, because if it was one of our rotational workers then that would mean the variant is in other provinces as well.

My heart is so heavy with the news of the mass burial site found with all those babies and children at the residential school in Kamloops. I know it’s very much the tip of the iceberg, and more of these horrors will come to light. I would like to hand all governance (and land) over to the FN communities that this land was stolen from and just radically overhaul all our systems. There is no pride in being Canadian, everything I grew up naively thinking to be true about this country was built on a rotten foundation of settler colonialism.

I'm feeling the same way Tlex, I'm ashamed of our country and how the government has failed to act. Even on the TRC calls to action which were commissioned - It's all been lip service, it feels like. It is disgusting that we were never taught about this growing up. Seeing the shoes on the eternal flame is heart wrenching and I hope they stay there for all who visit to see and actually learn about what's happened in our country.

Tlex, same. I haven't said much on it on SM either because I don't have the words yet. DS took it really hard and we spent the weekend processing it. I know from my work (which had been interviewing elders) that this is barrreeelllly the tip of the iceberg. It was widespread and this is the only place that had a ground penetrating radar study funded. I have heard more stories that I can count of missing family members that just never came back. I hate that there is an intolerance for the affects that trauma has caused (like addiction) but also an intolerance to understand the traumas that occured to cause things to be how they are. I was watching a tiktok that talked about how it takes coordination to hide burial sites like that, and how that came from the top. And some of those people who instituted shit like this could still be in power. And that's so depressing and true. Everyone talks about the traumas sustained but no one is naming the people who upheld these systems and made them run. A lot of them are still alive and have lived their life.
