The rain is coming down so hard it looks like there’s a foot of mist from the spray off the neighbouring roofs. I have my first batch of sourdough biscuits in the oven so I hope we don’t lose power!

Quoting myself to add, you can supplement her tutoring with Spanish apps, tv shows, and games like Bingo so she can continue to hear the language and build vocabulary between sessions. This is really helpful, thank you! How often do you do the 30 minute sessions? She sometimes chooses to watch Daniel Tiger in Spanish, which is what made me think of it in the first place lol I do the 30 minute sessions 3-4 days a week.

It’s my favorite weather right now. 70 degrees, overcast with a slight breeze. I wish it could be like this for most of the year. My babies are being sort of crankypants today which is not like them. I go back to work tomorrow and I have a couple grocery pick ups to do later that I loaded up with lunch stuff for WFH. I need to also mentally prepare myself for not micromanaging my H when he takes this next week off to care for the babies. I’m so strict about their schedule and now that I won’t be controlling it, I’m feeling a little anxious. I WFH from the time DS was 6 weeks old and this was tough, still is some days! I am much happier with a very regular routine and MH prefers flexibility, more than I think the kids can handle sometimes. Aaaaannyways! Good luck. My DMs are open if you need to vent, I won’t give advice I’ll just nod along. Thankfully I think he will probably try to stay on schedule but who knows. They are 3.5 months and we’ve got a good rhythm going now. Once the nanny starts in a couple weeks, I know she’ll be good about it. But she’s doing part time and then MIL is part time nannying and I’m more worried about her going off schedule since she’ll be more likely to just kind of let babies eat whenever instead of my set feeding times lol.

There's a thin black line going through our TV screen and I'm pissed because it's only 7 months old. Google isn't giving me anything.

@icedtea I was planning to do an hour a couple times a week? But I don’t know if that’s enough or too much lol. ETA: but she is 6.5 with 3 years of formal schooling at this point which I think helps her attention span versus a 3 year old. This makes sense! Not that it matters at the moment, but I wish we had an immersion program near us. I haven't found any. We got SUPER lucky. There was already a school sort of nearby, but the program was impacted (public school, one of a surprisingly low number of immersion schools despite living almost on the border). Another elementary school started their immersion program just a mile away from our house, and DD was only the second K class of the program. I wasn’t sure how it would go, because it was new, but omg I am so happy with it.

We're leaving to stay at a cabin for a few days tomorrow. It has a fire pit, private dock on the lake, hammock, and a couple of kayaks for us to use. The kids are so jazzed, as are H and I.
We're bringing everything with us so we don't have to go to a store, even though there are some nearby. It's also only an hour or so away, so no need for other stops. I'm probably packing too much food, but it's just who I am.

I made a sangria slushie and omg it’s so good. Need I froze a bottle of cheap red (out of the bottle obvi), and blended with 1/4 cup each of Cointreau and brandy, 5 oz frozen strawberries and 5 oz frozen raspberries. OJ just to thin it down. I think my vitamix is some of the magic.

I just threw some fish taco bowls together for dinner and they came out pretty yummy. My kid keeps making me laugh as she is loving the Jasmine rice and keeps asking me "What is your secret?!? It's so good!"
I often get the feeling my child is an old lady in a small body lol

How did I spend $500 at Costco? I’ll admit I haven’t ordered since march, and yes, since it’s instacart there is a premium. Well, now we have meat.

I taught DS how to clean the tubs and shower and it was the best. We've been non stop here all day.
I can't believe the time I thought it was later.

Due to torrential rain and the power going out, we came home from the cottage early. I don’t mind the rain and I don’t mind no power but together it’s just too much work. Hauling water in sideways rain loses its charm in a hurry. Note to self: build rooftop reservoirs to gravity feed the toilets on the next cottage; also: obtain engineering degree to design system that won’t flatten the building in the winter.
We’ve come home to a pool that is nearly ready to overflow. New territory for us but not much we can do.
Glad it’s a long weekend. The extra day is so needed right now. I’m so bagged I don’t even have the energy to watch tv.

The biscuits were so good, for anyone with a sourdough starter this is a great way to use up excess discard: thesouthernladycooks.com/sourdough-biscuits/I’m going to shamu myself into the tub now and watch Toy Story 4. I tried to watch it with the kids and the baby kept trying to harm himself so I want to see the ending, damnit.

DH was on call this weekend and he has been running a ton of calls, so no sleeping in for me this weekend. I’m exhausted and the baby only sleeps one 3 hour stretch at night. 😞 I’m so glad I’m not working right now. We are definitely ordering take out for dinner.

I’m laying in bed with an iced coffee and the dogs. I’m so tired today. I might blow off making dinner and get take out. We’ve been cooking nonstop and I am a bit burnt out.
I’m not ready for the weekend to be over. Can someone loan me an extra day?

We did the Chicago Botanic Garden today. The 6 year old hated it and complained the whole time. The 4 year old just wanted to do the butterfly exhibit and we saved it for last. And of fucking course we had just paid for tickets and got in when they said there is lightning in the area and they need to close down for 30 min. We couldn't wait, the kids were miserable. So we left.
Other than that it was super beautiful and nice to get fresh air. Wish we could've left the kids at home.

Ordered Door dash for lunch, and grub hub for dinner. Ouch for the bank acct but we have been LAZY. But also super productive—we’ve cleaned out closets and the playroom. So I feel like it’s a reasonable trade. Ish.

I was aiming for that but the people keep eating all the things... arg I'm currently spiraling on how to convince my son to take 2 weeks worth of shelf stable food up to univ with him next sunday, as it seems inevitable that he will need to quarantine in his little apartment for 2 weeks. He's like, but there's a grocery store, walmart and target right there. I said but quarantine = no stores for you. He's like but there's the delivery robot. which brings cooked food. But if he gets sick and a million other kids also, the fleet of robots is going to be crazy busy and run their tires off. How far away is he from you? Just thinking of if he does have to quarantine how practical it would be for you to carefully deliver him supplies. Im 2.5 hours away at 75 mph freeway driving. So not impossible to deliver stuff to him. I think i have him convinced to put 2 or 3 days of shelf stable food in him closet or kitchen for just in case.

Oxtail and rice and peas. Über Jamaican 🤤🤤 I had this yesterday with cabbage and plantains. I drove an hour to get it and do not regret it at all. I have been comatose on the couch ever since.
