Our school district finally came out with their plans and we changed our minds AGAIN; we're going to send DS to in person and see how it goes. I'm not super happy about it, but I wasn't about the distance learning either. This year just sucks. But his mental health is clearly suffering.
On an up note, we found one of his friends from his old daycare was willing to join us for playdates at local parks so we're cautiously relaxing a bit now since school starts in 3 weeks. It was good to see him playing with other kids again.

DS will be staying at the table. He has a desk in his room but it doubles as a dresser and it's on a different floor than the main living area so it doesn't make sense for us.
We have like a cabinet with shelves and drawers in the dining room so one drawer has school supplies and one shelf holds books and folder. It worked for the spring so hopefully we can keep it pushing. I'm trying to figure out what we could let him pick out that he might be excited about using. But he's not decorating a space or anything

Thanks for this idea. We already have a folding table but I didn't even think of using it for school. I set it up for my niece and nephew and it will work perfectly for when I have them.

I just ordered DS a desk for his room. He will be going back on a hybrid model and is starting high school this year so wants to be away from his sister who is doing virtual this year. DD has a desk in the living room for hers. I don't love it there but she is only in grade 2 so I need to be more hands-on with her.

my district released the schedule through December. Its gonna be a confusing year 😬🤣
Were hybrid and group A will go Mon/Wed. B will go Tue/Thursday. All remote learning on Fridays. Except the first week of school and days where they have no school on Monday.

I officially withdrew DS1 from the district and we are homeschooling. I'm a SAHM with a college degree, and he's a super smart kiddo who is starting kinder. I have basically all of the easiest parts of this, so we are doing what will provide the best stability for our family.
Surprisingly, DS1 is excited about it!
DS2 is still getting sent to preschool.

Evidently the test administered by the WH this morning on Gov DeWine was an antigen test and the PCR test they performed this afternoon came back negative. Going to follow up with another test Saturday. I guess I'm confused. Antigen vs PCR? How is a less sensitive test coming up positive but the more in depth one negative? thatgolfb ? The same thing happened recently at a local camp. They had like 9 kids test positive on the antigen test but PCR tests all came back negative.

I ordered this desk for DD1 but it got delayed until tomorrow. She starts school tomorrow so this is the area I set up for her in the meantime in our playroom. I set up a folding table in our upstairs loft for my niece and nephew. I have a visual schedule for DD1 on a white board with her other appointments added that is on a daily basis. I have a weekly calendar whiteboard and a master whiteboard so I can keep track of their schedules/appointments. Pics under spoiler.

I just ordered a new desk on Amazon and it seemed like there were a ton of desks available that I was searching. I mean it wasn't 2 day shipping but about a week or so anyway.

H just suggested I take DS to visit my parents for a long weekend; I think we're going to do it. We've been keeping to minimal contact until this past weekend, so we have a low risk of exposing my parents, but once DS is back in school the risk would be much higher, and it's already been a year since we've seen them. I'm so excited at the idea I could almost cry.

SD’s school started virtual orientation today. They have a really detailed plan for the in-person students, and I’m pretty into it. I’m hoping that with high schoolers they can get them to follow it reasonably well. They’re behind on class schedules since they’re moving to a block format, so she’s anxious to get that. But I’m hopeful.

Oof. The Big Ten cancelled football. I knew it was inevitable, but damn.
I assume the other big conferences will follow shortly.

DD's reading chair came and her rainbow drawer cart. Her desk right now is a hot mess because of the process of moving everything around. But virtual school did get me motivated to organize her desk.reading area way better.

The school board in the next town has voted to have no mask requirement K-12. So, expect to see photos of Michigan in the news in the next couple of weeks.

I got emotional this weekend about the fact that my girls aren't starting school in person this week. I get it and fully support the distance learning (no choice, CA watchlist county); but the start of school is so exciting. We've got an incoming 2nd grader and incoming kindergartner. My MIL bought them backpacks (power of positive thinking) and I just wish they were starting like normal.
First day is Wednesday - we've got a scheduled window of time that we get to go, meet the teacher, and pick up materials/chromebooks. That's it, that's the first day. The email said that teachers will be scheduling individual calls/check in meetings with families to answer any questions.

My SIL/BFF teaches at the school that my boys attend. She has MS and T1D so she applied and was accepted to be able to teach from home. I had a major meltdown that she will not be at the school. Even last year when school was "normal" I had loads of anxiety about my kids being there but it was better knowing that they had an aunt in the building. I had to apologize to her because I didn't react well when I found out she wouldn't be at the school, it felt like a kick in the gut. But on a personal level, I also don't want her in the school and exposed.
Basically, fuck 2020.

I am eye rolling that the SEC is refusing to cancel and trying to get others to join them. Those fuckers are in the worst damn spots. Like what.

DD1 is going to just work from the kitchen counter because I need to be able to help her while also juggling the toddler and newborn simultaneously. If it seems to be a shit show we'll get her big art table and stools out of the basement and put it in our front sitting room. That's all I've got. I can't get it up to do more with the fact that I have to deal with all three kids alone all day to care where she works from.

I’m sad about a year without my college football but I’m so glad they are canceling it. I’m quite disappointed that my school was one of the two presidents that still voted for it though. 😒 ETA, or just ditto GhoatMonket, especially fuck SEC!
