So two days a week I teach the big kids and two days a week I hang with the little kids. Our neighbors and us have VERY similar caregiving styles, which is very lucky. And it’s pretty great and easy.
But they do a lot more teasing/silly talk. “I’m gonna kick you! I’m gonna punch you in the butt!” (Without doing it, usually.) “You’re a poopy fart face!”
But I don’t like it. I’m not a poopy fart face. So when pushing all three on the swing, after threatening to kick me in the face 2x and then calling me various names, and after a warning, I walked away from the swing. “HEY PUSH US.”
“Hey!” I said. “hey, I’m a person and I’m pushing you so you can have fun. You know that being called mean things and being almost-kicked is NOT fun for me, so I’m walking away. Next time try being nice to me.”
He’s, like, SHOCKED. Sorry dude, my house, my rules.
Like, it gives me great satisfaction. Is that weird? I feel like though that type of humor is great for some families, it’s legit to teach him that it isn’t for many people? Right?

I have many conversations with Nugget when she does obnoxious things too many times and I say "sorry, this isn't fun for me anymore, I'm going to go do something else." The poop jokes really grate on me after a bit, too, we're deep in the gross humor phase right now.

My kids have started saying things like this because they have friends at school who do it. We've had MANY frank conversations about how our words have meaning and we need to treat everyone with respect...even if other people act that way.

In our case I think this happens with school and daycare interactions.

We talk a lot about how words can build others up to tear others down (thanks sak a million years ago.) And even if you’re joking, being told that you will get kicked in the face definitely tears you down. We often segue that into treating others how you want to be treated - built up or torn down. But yes. We have a neighbor who says a lot of things that we don’t say in our house. And I have told her before that we don’t talk that way in our house, so we need her to not talk that way in our house. I specifically use the thought of being a good example for P Bc she is younger. I like the way you handled it though. That this isn’t fun for you so you are walking away and maybe next time he can be nicer/make better choices. I may borrow that verbiage.

I just heard the weirdest radio ad...it started as sanctity of marriage, went to god and community, then to how it'll never be normal to force kids to wear masks to go to school...and then....it was for a smoke shop.
I just....

ovenrack, you are a rock star! I'm going to try that approach with our neighbor boy. I think he's rude, but L likes to play with him. I know his mom calls him out when he is rude, but I have a feeling females are seen as lower value in his parents' culture.

My parents took the kids for the night so we got Thanksgiving poutine from a local food truck. It’s exactly what it sounds like, poutine with the addition of turkey and stuffing, and it’s delicious.

It's all MH and FIL getting it done. It's been a lot of extra weekend kid wrangling for me. But it's all going to be so worth it.

Oh also, I'm looking at that like it's going to make an amazing playhouse design for the kids too. We talked about a tree house when we first moved here, but never did anything about it. MH is really enjoying building. I think we're going to have to do another one of these in the spring for the kids. And by kids, I mostly don't mean baby goats. Probably.

Goats and chickens and a pig is a perfect little group.

I watched the social delimma last night and then deleted tapa and Facebook from my phone. So...I’ll be scarce for a few days until the addiction takes over.

Ooof, I know a lot of people who have deleted FB after watching the social dilemma. There are so many people that I connect to via social media. And my business. But, even without watching the show, I agree with the people who are deleting. I just don't know if I can do it.

I was like "why? So I stop using FB? That's really not going to happen" I get it... But like, my business is on there, and I actually really just want to connect with old friends and share photos. I don't partake in any political hooplah, and I've been trying to not click Ads or random articles. So, I guess I don't see the harm?

Another project compete! Painting R's bed too way longer than I anticipated, but I do love it so much more than the old, dark finish.

I didn’t delete my account because there’s a lot of local information there. But I took it off my phone because it is literally made to be as addicting as crack. I mean I knew that. But I spend too much time wasted on scrolling. And seeing how they decide what I scroll to (doesn’t matter if you never click ads) reminded me its not a good use of my limited time.

We're from San Diego, but moved an hour east of the Bay Area earlier this year. I must have misread it. I could have sworn it said I'm not alone in the bay area anymore. I'm going to go make another coffee. Sorry my failed reading comprehension ruined the joke.

I need to stop reading past the first couple of pages of most threads on GD, they always seem to devolve into people fighting over something inconsequential.
