P has a cold. So do a few in her class. I’m feeling distrustful of masks. Probably keeping her home tomorrow. For a runny nose.
Hello winter. You are going to be so so long.

I'm sure that it's the same cold that's been going around here. I was feeling very WTF about why any respiratory illness would be going around. But then I realized that for most colds, fomites (touch) are a huge transmission method (why people were telling us to sanitize our mail at the beginning of all of this). But not so much for COVID. So we're just not as careful about touch right now and touch-based illnesses are going to still be a thing. But maybe, hopefully, fewer, if parents do keep their kids home for runny noses? But yeah, it will be a stupid long winter.

Yeah, the girls had sniffly noses for a good 5 days. R was "warm" but only had a high temp if I took an in-ear temp. Oral temp was always under "fever range". I dunno if our thermometer is less accurate or what, but it was more than a degree higher than an oral temp every time. Forehead temp was always normal. 🤷
I just rambled there, but my point was they were sniffly and I was worried, but then our good friends said their kiddos had the same thing and got tested and were negative. So, I'm guessing all the kids had the same thing.
Winter is going to be so long...

Before COVID when folks on the board, who were from different regions, talked about their kids being sick, I always assumed that the illnesses were different. Like, there is no way that someone has the same illness as someone 2000 miles away. I have very clearly learned that I was wrong.

Yea I'm not worried that it is covid - but the threshold for sending them to school this year is so different. Technically she's allowed with the only symptom being runny nose/congestion. I'm going to keep her home anyway cuz it seems like its actually a cold even though thats all she has - not just sniffles. Plus, masks? How the heck does a runny nose and some sneezing work in masks with 4 year olds?
Sounds like a paw patrol/moana/frozen 1 +2 marathon kind of day here.

I kept the kids home last Thursday and Friday for stuffy noses, too. L was sneezing out green boogers, so I wasn't worried about it being COVID, but their school suggests keeping home for basically ANY symptom of anything right now. It is definitely going to be a long winter.

In Vermont kids have to kept home for any runny nose (without a known allergy). Our DC pushed back on that and finally got them to acquiesce that if the kid gets a runny nose outside and then goes inside and it stops, the kids doesn't have to be sent home. Also, our district has set the rule (this might be state-wide) that if there is a single case of community spread with in a school (where one kid/staff passes it to another kid/staff), the entire school is shut down for a 2 week quarantine. I have to imagine that that means between classes or something, not within a class. But still. Vermont is a strict plane.

Oh yeah, and if a kid has two or more COVID symptoms (like a cough and a runny nose) they have to be assessed by a doctor (ie tested) AND be 24 hour symptom free before returning. Ooof.

MH did an online grocery order for the first time. This is the result: (that stack is 10" high). We have approximately 7lbs of sliced cheese now.

R (8) slammed her door, again, after it was clear we are not ok with that, so her door was taken away for the night. We expected her to be upset, but she ended up being super close to hyperventilating. This kid, yo... Sheesh!
This parenting thing is no joke, especially when you try to do it right.

It sucks now rugger. But one day. Many, many moons from now. You will look back, high five S, and be so proud of the parents that you have been. But for right now....

This totes goes in a confession thread, but I'm sure I'll forget by Friday .. I had a dream about an old college friend of mine that had a crush on me while I was dating S. He's def crush worthy, and it's not the first time he's made an appearance in a dream. All I can remember was sitting next to him, arm in arm, and him lightly holding my hand, and feeling really happy (smitten?) . And then I woke up sorta wishing it was real. 😬

Leonard turned 5 today! We cut him up some fresh picked apples and sang him happy birthday with both breakfast and dinner. He was way too busy with his apples to smile for me again 😁

We have found a house on the market in the new place with literally the floorplan of my dreams and it seems too good to be true maybe and I am just freaking right out with excitement. Like I need to calm down. I can't see it until next weekend and it has been on the market for 3 months so it probably won't get snatched out from under me but I have my realtor monitoring closely just in case. It is the identical floorplan of the house we would have built had we gone that route and in a great neighborhood with an ideal lot so I am just crossing all my parts and holy shit we might have a house there before the end of the year. When I go in on stuff I go All.The.Way.In and so I fell asleep last night dreaming about decorating it for Christmas and I need to take a few breaths. MH really likes it but doesn't love things the way I do, so as long as there are no surprises we may get through this process just fine.

Nothing like attempting to get a new driver's license to leave you feeling completely defeated and hopeless.

ovenrack I'm wearing headphones around my house today. I just cannot with my children's volume levels anymore. I don't even understand how their lungs are capable of such ear-piercing noises.
