I have aunts in KY, AZ, and TX. When we told them what it was like, they kept going “We’re not NY! We’ll never be NY!” My uncle from AZ came out here last month for work and was ASTONISHED at how much was still restricted (phase 2 at the time). Uh... where have you been since March? Should have been here April-May when EVERYTHING was shut down How did you people not take notes the last 5 months? Like, did you think we were making this up? Also the smug we're not NY was infuriating. Sure Jan That’s my favorite. All those motherfuckers that told me “we’re not NY.” No, you’re not. Because we did the right thing and now we have some of the lowest transmissions in the country.

I think we will spike again, I think things might get locked down or restricted again. But, I love how serious people are being. NYC metro is no fucking joke. I’m in the Jersey shore now and yes, some people aren’t being serious, but things are still closed down, you see people taking extra precautions at random places (masks on the beach) and when I go out and make my whole family wear masks, nobody gaf. Like, I don’t encounter that mask hate here. People seem to be either doing the right thing or not gaf about the people who are. This is my experience here too. There are a small handful (maybe 5-10%) who aren't masking up but they aren't like..... actively spitting on people who do. I feel pretty safe going into a place like Trader Joe's that limits the building capacity and requires masks. I felt very safe at the aquatic gardens where we were outdoors, everyone was wearing masks, and it was very easy to socially distance.

Honestly, since April, I have seen someone once indoors that wasn’t masked. Once. And they were wearing gloves so I assume he had a reason for doing it. I see people congregating and hanging out more now but it gives me a bit of hope that I have not had the adversity that other people on the board have had. Everyone seems to get it, even if they think its eyerolly, they’re following the rules and leaving me alone.

NH! We have a trump rally coming our way Saturday. So...let’s hope no one shows up to that for multiple reasons.

NJ here. By the beach.
The summer tourist crowd really scares me. We are in such a good place I don’t want to screw it up. My friends have attempted the beach/boardwalk and turned around once they saw how jam packed it is.

Just because NY had the first really bad spike (in concert with WA, but slightly less bad because of population density in Metro NYC) at a time when we were not at all prepared for this thing and knew basically nothing about it doesn't mean NY failed. And also, if your red state asses didn't learn anything from NY in the time you were granted by blue states locking the fuck down then don't even talk to me.

Stares at Florida GMIL in FL is all pissy because she can't come up and see the baby due to the virus. You think she'd be all over mask wearing to bring cases down, but no she thinks it's uncomfortable so she won't wear one. 🤦♀️

Can I get waived in from DC? Or do I have to make my own Mid Atlantic thread? I should change the title. Is DC DVA or did I make that up?

Much like how PA is on the fringe of the northeast, we are also on the fringe of having our numbers under control. Our state is still dicey (especially the middle which resembles red states) but we have a good governor and my county was once the epicenter and now has steadily declining numbers and a kick ass commissioner who is a mom and a doctor.
I’m expecting an uptick in the Fall and I worry about school starting but mostly I feel better than I have in a while. Like almost calm. Almost.

We just got word that the yoga studio I teach at can reopen at 25% capacity.
But also now masks are required outside when you can't socially distance (which I thought they always were?).
So... It's confusing here.

CT here and I'm really happy with my area for the most part. Lamont recently decided to push back opening bars, based on the rest of the country, and it's so nice to have someone looking at and acting on data. I do worry about people screwing it up. There are definitely "this was all unnecessary!" folks in the fb groups, but out and about I see masks everywhere. I really feel the governors up here won't just do dumb stuff because of political pressure and that helps a lot of my anxiety about the future

My IL’s and best friend live in FL. They are leading lives on another universe and Can’t believe the restrictions we have in place. And then are questioning why they keep having huge case days.

I’m in MA. In an extremely tourist/seasonal area. Things were going well, people masked, keeping distanced but lately I see too many people without masks and things getting crowded. I am certain we will have a surge soon here 😫

And one fb dude on the NY/CT border I saw said "look, I'm a republican small business owner, 99% of the time I hate Cuomo. But he's right and Trump is wrong, fucking get in line!" So that gave me some hope. I can't with the Emperor Cuomo. It's an immediate signal to avoid someone
