I really need to start putting together my hospital bag and one of the things I have on my list is gifts/treats for the delivery nursing staff. With DD (over 4 years ago) we brought in a huge box of chocolates, which they seemed to enjoy. Not sure if I want to do something similar to that again or go in a different direction. What do you all plan on bringing for them (if anything at all)?

I did food last time around (donuts and muffins) and I think I'll do the same this time.

I just started working on this and so far I've picked up some 100 calorie packs of almonds and cashews. I'm also going to get some chocolates, some of those Starbucks Via instant coffee packets, and I'm debating on getting some bath bombs.

I hadn't thought about this yet, but I suppose it's coming up on time! Probably some chocolates or cookies from Hawaii if I can get my butt in gear.

I love this idea. We were going to do it for the nurses with DS1 but didn't plan ahead and were too overwhelmed afterwards. I was thinking of sending DH to Wegmans to get a big tray of desserts but maybe packaged treats that keep would be better.

We didn't do anything last time. I doubt we will this time either.

It's really relieving to hear that some people didn't do and don't plan on doing it again. The idea of having to go buy stuff for them makes me anxious. I know it's a nice touch, but eh. it just seems unnecessary. I guess I'll ask my friend who delivered there to see what she did.
On that note- are youfuys getting your Dr a gift? Or do you assume he will just share some of the nurses' treats?

When I did my labor and delivery clinical rotation some people brought in treats for the nurses and it was always super appreciated but definitely not expected. However, now that I'm in nursing school and I know how hard nurses work I feel obligated to do something. I'll probably either bring a box of candy (if I can get my shit together in time) or send MH to get donuts or muffins or something in the morning. Food always seemed to be the most popular.

I hadn't thought of bringing anything really, and doubt that we will? Honestly, I don't think it's at all common to bring treats or gifts for the hospital staff here.. I've never ever heard any of my mom friends about it. Ditto on bringing anything for the dr. We do plan on sending a birth announcement and perhaps something like a thank-you to my Asherman's specialist cause without his care and great advice we wouldn't even be here..

cali that was the reason that I was going to bring stuff too, especially since I did my L&D clinical rotation at the same hospital I'm giving birth at.

I probably won't do anything in advance. With DS1 I wrote a card and sent flowers to a nurse who went above and beyond (stayed 2hrs past her shift to help me get fully dilated!) and will do something personal if I have good nurses this time. Nurses with DS2 were not kind at all and the hospital is huge so I didn't feel obligated to do anything.

Last time I sent an edible arrangement after I was home to the nurses shifts that were on when I was there. I also sent a letter to the shift supervisor about a particularly great nurse. My mom worked l&d for years and always appreciated letters over gifts because it would become part of her reviews for raises.

😳 now I feel like a crappy nurse to not have thought or factored this into my birthing plan. I should do it, I do always love it when parents bring us food (donuts), so I should pay it forward (back).
