That's frustrating jewels. I don't have any ideas short of a lock (I'd probably just get one of those flip ones and give S the control by putting it high enough he can reach it but B can't). Obviously you can talk and punish about it all you want, but it's not a surefire thing to prevent him from doing it again.

That would piss me off. inthekitty I hope your efforts get it all approved. tgrimes That’s rough. Hope you figure out something to keep him safe in his room.

jewels we don't have the LEGO destruction but wanting in/out of each other's rooms is definitely an issue here. Cue door-slamming, wailing, etc. I'd probably go for a simple lock option if it continues to be a problem. Does he have his own LEGO he can play with, or do you think this is just the thrill of the 'forbidden fruit'? ETA: the sellers of our new house had several locks like this on interior doors (this one is on the pantry, lol) Simple enough that a kid can operate.

Hey. Dh took the girls to the zoo this morning, they came home and ate lunch, and now he’s dropping them off at his parents’ house. Lots of alone time for V and me. I need to get up and water my plants but I’d rather snuggle the baby so it can wait.

All this sleepwalking/blocking the door has me thinking about a silly problem we are having. B keeps sneaking into S room to "borrow" his toys. S doesn't use his closet so we converted it to a lego closet and he has 74 billion lego sets in there that he built and plays with. The other day B was too quiet upstairs and I found him on the floor in front of the closet having torn apart like 3 lego sets. Needless to say, S was not amused. I tell the boys that their rooms are their own spaces and they don't have to let their brothers in. But obviously B is not listening. I want S to feel "safe" that his room will be how he left it and his toys will be ok when he's not there. Any ideas, short of locking his door from the outside when he's not in it? I have no suggestions...isn't that what siblings do? Annoying shit they aren't supposed to? I remember that being my brothers MO. LOL yes it is. I just feel bad since B's so little he doesn't really get how much he's pissing S off

flamingo we've bought him his own legos but he always wants what S has. The joys of being the younger brother. wedding that's a good idea. S doesn't like him in his room at all but maybe we lock up the closet and tell him anything he REALLY doesn't want his brother to touch goes in there.

M2 does the same thing. jewels He only wants to break what M built. He will do it as M is trying to build though. It’s something... I have no advice. I do like putting a lock on the closet so S can keep whatever he needs to not be in B’s reach inside.

DH just got home to start a 4-day weekend, so that's nice.
We are waiting to find out when he will deploy...mid-Aug. or later in the fall. He had a meeting today with the commodore and it's *looking* like it'll be the later option. I'd love for him to be here for first day of school, some college football (ha, is this overly optimistic?) and just have the chance to enjoy the new house. And selfishly I really wanted to take a little kid-free trip before he goes! Fingers crossed.

flamingo, it's got to be exciting to be nearing the end of deployments and not always have that hanging over your guys' head. You've got Step 1 out of the way with getting settled in your forever area, now just to get through Step 2 with the last couple of years until retirement and more stability. Good for you guys. Hopefully this deployment schedule works out in your favor.

My boss eventually showed up today. He's like George W. Bush. He's the kind of guy you'd like to have a beer with but not someone you want at the helm of a major position. I talked to him a bit about the telework stuff and he's actually making some headway on it. Mostly because without it due to COVID we can't complete part of mission (involves flying patients in from other states for assessments). Clearly, even past COVID it just makes sense to do video assessments because it's a lot of time and money for one appointment. I don't care if the reason has nothing to do with advocating for employees and is solely mission-focused, at least it's moving forward. In fact, because it is essential to completing our mission that lights a fire a lot more than making employees happy so whatever.
ETA: Sweet baby Jesus. He said something else that makes it sound like he still wants us to do the assessments from our office at work even though if they are tele-appointments we should get approval to WFH. He drives me up the frickin' wall.

H was up 6 times last night. It's been like this for several days now and I'm 95% sure he's sleep walking. Good news is that google says kids usually outgrow it by their teen years so... I slept walked as a kid. I stopped before high school but it starts again any time I move to a new place. I missed many college classes because I'd wake up in the living room and my alarm was in my bedroom. Hopefully he outgrows it early.

I'd like to get back all the time I say, "Lue, go potty" "Luella. Do you need to go to the bathroom?" "LUELLA GO TO THE BATHROOM!". She's potty trained and doesn't typically have any accidents but she holds it so long before going! I'm sure the neighbors are so sick of us yelling that while she grabs her crotch and waddles around the yard. Getting her to go before a car ride or walk makes me want to never ever ever leave my house.

I read that earlier and it’s all so true and surreal that this is where we are at. Today I asked my coworker, who’s wife is a teacher in our county, what are they hearing about school. Just like I have been hearing, nothing good. Hybrid or full virtual. I can’t say I’m surprised, but man that sucks for everyone. I am going to talk to Mh today about talking to one of his assistants’ girlfriend about helping us this fall if need be. She is Canadian and has a school visa. Not sure which, but she can’t work because she doesn’t have citizenship. She was a soccer grad assistant and because of everything, they don’t have the funding for grad assistants anymore this year. I hope she is ok with it and agrees. We will pay her of course.

I think there will be a lot of people looking for work, especially college students that may be home if their school bus remote. I don't know what we will do, daycare may be open but if the school system isn't, we will need to be home with j. And how are teachers supposed to teach if they have their own school age kids🤷

wineallthetime Cadence still does that. Sometimes she randomly comes into a room with different clothes on because she didn't make it in time and had to change.

wineallthetime C does the same thing to an extent. Girlfriend has a bladder of steel, so she frequently puts it off til the very last second...then she needs to GO NOW. She's been night-trained basically since she potty-trained and will also routinely hold it for a couple more hours after she wakes up in the morning. How?? I usually end up 'racing' her (or having her and B race, lol) to see who can potty first when I need her to go; thankfully she has a super strong competitive streak.

Putting this on the right day-
Survived the first day with 7 kids and 2 dogs. Even managed to take the pontoon out and let the kids swim in the lake. It’s blazing hot though, so L didn’t last too long out there. We are finished with dinner, everyone has showered and now they are watching a movie. Success!
