tgrimes , long Wow! WTF is wrong with your mom?! A lot. She's currently complaining that she has to sit in her hot car for another 2 hours waiting for him. Yeah mom, dad's having surgery but poor you for having to wait in the car.

Are nonsense words a thing? I’ve never seen them in Josie’s work. Is it so ghe kids have to work phonetically sounding words out and not rely on previous knowledge of letter combinations? ETA: I rewrote to clarify bc I wasn’t making sense I haven't seen them with B's school at all in the past two years.

wedding, It doesn’t really change my opinion. If you wanted to be the bigger person, you could ask her if she could provide resources to help C over the summer. Resources you could work on at home in your own timetable. You could also ask to speak to the first grade team of teachers to see what they expect for September ( this might step on the K teachers toes so I’d maybe ask her to get the info) Agreed.

Apparently my dad is having back surgery right now. WTF mom. She never learns does she? You will have to make it a point to specifically ask if there are any surgeries coming up when you talk to her.

I just asked Josie to spell Boz and Gar. She did and then asked me what they meant. I told her they were made-up nonsense words, and she then said then why do I need to know how to spell them. I’m very glad she’s not this sassy at school.

Went off-site this morning and completed the task of going through each box and condensing files/ marking boxes for trash. I emailed the partners and said 1 unit is complete, 8 more to go. I then got emails asking what complete meant and was it empty now. The task was to condense and mark boxes, that is what was complete. I'm not calling the junk peeps to haul the trash away until all the units are complete. This was apparently confusing to them. I'm not going to email them my progress reports any more. Anyway I messed up my back, so I won't be moving on to the next unit until Friday. I was there for 3.5 hours this morning. The partner who is supposed to help with this project has gone MIA. 🙄

I'm really hoping once Cadence gets better at reading she will like it more. I spent so much of my childhood inhaling books, that I want her to have that love too. So far...not so much.

The neighbours that we are cohorting with usually take B on long bike rides since MH isn't around and J is on her training wheels so I walk beside her. They just left and he said they're going on a long one, one less kid for a couple hours. Praise be, I love them.

I really hope that Ds will love it too! If it helps, I only really started loving reading until i was 8/9. Never stopped since ☺️. ETA I will say what triggered me was being read aloud to, a chapter each day wasn’t going trough the story fast enough!

I just love that all your kids are reading already! For us they really won’t start teaching then until first grade, most schools will start earlier with ‘letter knowledge’, ours doesn’t (which is fine for us). Ds is really starting to spell, write and read a little, but in his pace and according to his interest (aka animal orientated 😉). Curious to see how this develops.

OK I can't pull it out but what it says is that by March of K average is C and by end of K it is D/E. So honestly I believe that most kids will probably still be around a C b/c they have been home learning for the past 2.5 months. My friend agrees.
LMK your email addresses if you still want the rest of the chart, and the suggestions/tips that go along with it as well.

S took to reading quickly and I think it comes easy to him. But, like many of you said, I derived so much joy from reading and want him to as well. As of right now, he fights me nonstop for reading, and tells me he doesn't like it. Which makes me so sad.

Josie is a reader. She chooses books that I never would so I have zip my lip about her choices bc I know how important that autonomy is. Last year she asked the librarian for a book about Pokémon because she knew mh liked it when he was younger. The librarian actually scoffed at her and ask her why she would she choose such a book. It left such a bad taste in my mouth. She’s no longer there, thank goodness, but the interaction stayed with me and now I’m hyper vigilant to complement Josie on being so varied in her book choices.

The teacher said someday it will just click for him. I hope so. @klongoria I feel the same way about Callan not liking to read. I remember devouring books at his age.

I was a voracious reader as a kid. But when I remember back, it wasn't really until about 4th or 5th grade that I started taking off with reading more. I had to develop my reading skills and find books I liked. Sometimes I just need to remind myself to be patient because Maddie is just finishing 2nd grade so there's still time. She loves reading comic books (like Diary of a Wimpy Kid), but doesn't read a lot of "chapter books." When I think back, I didn't either at that age though. ETA: And regarding "just clicking" it did for M. She was an average reader in K and sometime during 1st grade she just got it and now can read way above her level.

Yeah but not so much behind as at the lower end of average I think. Since C is where they were supposed to be when he left school. I honestly wouldn't worry at this point. I agree with his teacher that it will just click.

I was never much of a reader but N loves it. Unfortunately, I think staying home makes her read less because her and H love to play together to much (which is great too). She got a chapter book series for Christmas called The Never Girls. She finished the first book so far. She really enjoys it, but i have to remind her about it occasionally to get her in the mood to read.

joelies Speaking of dads, have you gotten any updates on yours? Who knows? Some days he's doing better than ever and others, it's total doom and gloom (and somehow has been for ages, despite getting a completely different message the day before). She also more or less called me a liar about the 14 day quarantine requirement for tri-state area visitors to FL being extended. Check FL.gov, lady! I think both our Moms are nuts. Sorry you are once again dealing with drama.
