Do I need to pre-wash crib sheets and swaddle blankets? I have washed/will be washing e-ve-ry-thing. (Okay in all honesty my mum is doing all the baby laundry as I haven't been able to get upstairs to do laundry since I broke my ankle and tore several ligaments heh 😊😇😶) New stuff I just don't like to wear unwashed cause of the smell and who knows where tis been.. Hand me downs I just want to wash and make my own as well even if it looks/smells clean.

Posted this originally over at A17 but I am just so happy with the fabric I picked I want to AW it some more hahaha! 😊 Went shopping for curtain fabric today with my mum and got this for the nursery. Saw several types of fabric that were cute/nice but none made me real excited.. until I saw this and I just knew this was gonne be the one heh. 😊 Since the basics in the nursery are neutral - cream walls and white furniture - I really want to add color by way of curtains and accessories. This fabric makes me happy! Mum will sew the curtains and we have some extra fabric to use for some throw pillows or something else.

My sister and her SIL just told me that the hospital will only allow the baby to leave with the car seat in the middle. Is this true ? I was planning on the middle for my car. But my husband vehicle doesn't have anchors for the middle. I like the anchors so what to we do/ what will the hospital have us do? Huh - I've never heard of the middle seat requirement from the hospital. I asked my sister, and she said her hospital (in the USA) just checked that the baby was securely strapped in the bucket car seat. They didn't even check to see inside the car. Maybe it varies by hospital/area? I would call the hospital and ask what their policy is on this. Where I live, most people hold their babies in their arms for the car ride home 😩😬 (we of course use a car seat), so I'm no help from personal experience.

Some middle seats aren't deep enough and the car seats overhang too much so that doesn't seem fair. 🤔

When we just left the NICU the nurse didn't check anything at all...

Some cars are not compatible with car seats in the middle.

@starzia just going by the fact our car and most i know only has isofix points for the base on the left and right back seat but not in the middle makes me feel it is an odd requirement. Also, wouldn't the middle seat be more dangerous since it has open access to the front of the car?? I wouldn't ever put my baby in that seat even if i could...
Though yeah it is strange both your sis as SIL said the same thing 🤔

The open front shouldn't be an issue if the seat is secured properly. @starzia that's the weirdest thing I've ever heard. I'd bank on it not being true- maybe the nurses there suggested / encouraged the middle seat, but they can't force it on you! They're not even allowed to put the seat in the car bc of liability issues, so their "requirement" of this seems bizarre.

I've never heard the middle seat requirement, but I do know that middle is supposed to be the safest.
With DS, the nurses only checked that we HAD a car seat (otherwise we weren't allowed to leave), but they weren't allowed to comment on its installation.

Just watching the movements I'm like holy cow buddy!! This is the only thing about pregnancy I'm going to miss- feeling his kicks (well most of them). Ugh I have a mile long to do list and all I want to do is sit on the couch and lounge. Wahhh

I felt the exact same way last night - I even posted on my BMB that I felt like Sigourney Weaver in alien. I must have stretched out overnight, or the baby changed positions, because I feel better now. But man, I was sooooo uncomfortable! I swear this happens every other week or so. I blame baby growth spurts

@starzia that is very strange. The center seat is considered to be the safest but only if you can get the car seat installed properly and that is not always possible in every car/car seat combination. I have heard of nurses checking to make sure you have a car seat installed but mine did not. And nurses are not experts at car seat installation anyway. Find a car seat inspection site, usually a police station or fire department, and have them check the installation before you have the baby. There may be some listed here, or your state may have their own website with more locations. Safe Kids

When we went to test out car seats, we were told that back bucket seats can't use the center hump seat for the car seat, I can for the life of me recall the details but the inspection person was horrified that we even attempted to put it in the center. @starzia buy buy baby usually has an inspector available if that's where you got the sea from or just want to ask without getting the actual inspection yet

What the fuck @starzia? I'll never understand why people have zero filters around pregnant women. I probably wouldn't have been very nice in my response.

I don't get it either.
I've gotten the "are you SURE you're not due until September?!" a few times. Yes, bitch. And so is my doctor.
At work lately, it's been "How ARE you?" All concerned. I put on the biggest fake smile and say something obnoxiously positive and ignore that they're asking about my whale-like state. None of your damn business, folks.

RE: car seat bases
The hospital may not even go near your car and as previously mentioned most nurses are not allowed to take on the liability of whether or not your car seat is installed correctly. MH installed ours around 38 weeks and I got it inspected by a police officer in the town I work in. My state has a website where you can search for certified car seat safety techs so I was able to find her that way.
We brought the infant car seat inside the hospital with us to strap him in before going outside, so IDK if anyone would have checked for a car seat had we not brought it in. When we left the nurses cut the "hijack" thing off DS's ankle and told us we were free to go whenever we were ready. No one walked us out.

We installed ours in the middle using a seat belt until I made the decision to switch to LATCH on an outboard position, but as I just mentioned in my previous post no one from the hospital even came close to my car when we left and they never asked where the car seat was installed.
