I’ve never stocked up on much for a new baby, because we live a mile from Target and Amazon had same day delivery. Now that I wouldn’t want to take a newborn to a store and delivery times are slower, I’m thinking more about what I need to have on hand.
I have 7 30-packs of newborn diapers and a whole bunch of wipes. I figure I should buy some size 1 diapers too since we’ll use them eventually and who knows how big baby will be. I have infant Tylenol and diaper cream. I need to get another couple newborn swaddles since the Velcro is worn out on all but one that we already had. We also have diaper cream. For me I have pads.
What else should I make sure I have??

Thanks danib! I do breastfeed, but I haven’t used nipple cream or breast pads in the past. For whatever reason I’m not a big leaker Good call on the baby soap - I really liked Earth Mama Angel Baby soap for the other kids, so I should order some!

You’re having a boy right? Idk if you plan to circumcise him but if you do, make sure you have Vaseline on hand for healing. We took like 4 tubes home from the hospital because the squeeze tubes are nice and easy. But not sure if every hospital provides that.
Quick snacks. Granola bars, cereal, crackers are all things I have been keeping handy lately.
Colace has been my best friend but i don’t think I used it for as long with my first.
Ibuprofen or a Tylenol for your pain management if needed.
After I used up the mesh underwear and big pads from the hospital, I have actually found Depends adult diaper underwear to be way more convenient than putting pads in my normal underwear. It’s not sexy and they are a tad bulky but if you’re just around the house in sweats, it’s nbd.

Thanks willow! We are having a boy and we do circumcise - good point. For whatever reason in CA boys are circumcised by the pediatrician after a few days or a week or something - I forget exactly when - rather than in the hospital (like my east coast friends and family have had) but we will still need Vaseline.

You can also buy petroleum gauze which imo is so much easier than plain Vaseline.

I second the adult depends for the first few days. Then I had big pads. I just realized that I’m almost out of those and had never stocked up on thinnner pads. Fortunately I found some tucked away.
I also second having Tylenol and Advil in stock. The post partum contractions were a bitch for the first 4ish days and I was around the clock on both meds.
I only used one small pack of Newborn size diapers before growing to Size 1; could you exchange some of the boxes if needed?
Water bottle with a straw that closes for easy access and spill proof.
Easy grab, new, activities for the older kid(s). And easy grab snacks for the kids. I fill up water bottles in he morning and leave them out so I don’t have to constantly get water for them.

Thanks hangry! Yes I could exchange the newborn diapers since they’re from target and were on my target card so I wouldn’t need a receipt. My DD was 8 lbs 9 oz but both boys were only 7 pounds even - I’m hoping this little guy is somewhere in between. I have plenty of Tylenol because DH likes to prepare and made us stock up in case someone gets COVID. We always just do water bottles for all day for the older kids - are there people who fill up cups all day?
