Everyone keeps talking about schools returning to in person in March but ummm local schools here have been in person all year. One district did announce they would do 2 weeks remote after Christmas break but then back to their hybrid model. Other schools, to my knowledge, have remained face to face the whole time. I agree. We’ve been hybrid all year thus far. However I know large districts like Columbus City schools and Cleveland schools have been virtual since last March. H’s school was hybrid and then went virtual. He’ll find out next week if they’ll go back to hybrid or stay virtual. My district has basically been virtual since March, with the exception of 12 days between the election and Thanksgiving break. They are supposedly going back to in person elementary/hybrid 5th and over starting on the 19th (beginning of 2nd semester) but I don't know if they will extend if numbers continue the way they are. Cuyahoga County extended their stay at home ?advisory once so if they do it again I think the district with stay virtual. I will not be happy if they eliminate the ability for kids to stay virtual if the family chooses, especially if vaccines haven't been finished before that time.

I have seen a few articles that they don't think it's really spreading in schools, especially the younger kids. I still think they should be working to vaccinate everyone and not force them to go back in March though. He is way too idealistic. Yes he has been saying this since they went back so why then are we forcing them to go back and get the vaccine? Not saying they shouldn’t get it they should but not if they can’t get both doses and not if it’s taking from hospital workers/ first responders and grocery workers where it is spreading I'm so confused by who is priority. My friend is a social worker and got her first shot on Wednesday. She's been seeing her clients virtually and is 33 years old. Why did she get a shot before it's been administered to hospital staff and first responders? I can't make it make sense.

It sounds like she has the option for it just because she works for the hospital.

My uncle is a high up person in finance at a large healthcare provider. He’s only going in to the office once a week but is possibly going to get the vaccine in two weeks. He will defer if there aren’t enough in the shipment. But essentially DeWine was mad at the CEO at the number of vaccines used so far and told him to vaccinate anyone. That we can’t be picky and you need to get needles in arms. If someone is willing to get it, give it to them. More are coming and we just need to get things moving.

I don’t know the full story. My uncle said that for whatever reason, the company is opening it up to anyone. That they have not been using all of their vaccine allocation and Dewine was pissed. They have over 10,000 employees (I googled). I don’t know if it is due to logistics or if not as many front facing workers are jumping at the opportunity to get in line as expected. We are talking multiple hospitals/ doctors offices/etc.

We have room to distance and/or do virtual classes until May. Students may not like virtual class but they are grown ups

My mom got vaccinated (not in OH) because she worked in the heath care field and they extended it to anyone who's license is still active.
It makes me mad because she's retired and all she does is babysit my nieces, but on the other hand, if so many people are truly refusing it, then that might be part of the reason it seems slow? Really I just don't know how to feel.

DS's district is still talking about possible hybrid for 2/1. I don't know how that aligns with the vaccine schedule stating 3/1.

My boss said k-12 teachers should be able to start getting vaccines 2/1 so that is why they are pushing for 3/1 start date because the teachers would have at least one vaccine shot? or something. Still seems lofty to me considering that we have 1.2 million people over 80 that are eligible to get the vaccine first, but maybe he is banking on Biden coming in and getting the vaccine out better

I haven’t watched a presser in weeks but I’m home now so should I watch? Sure! I’m watching now. Wants to talk about vaccines. 315,000 vaccines given so far. He referred to the vaccine as a scarcity. 85% of nursing homes have been visited by pharmacy companies. Will continue to finish the other 15%. The second dose visits stated in the last week.

92% of eligible veterans in vet homes have been vaccinated.
We are telling the hospitals that they need to be done vaccinating staff by Sunday night. Then they need to start vaccinating those over 80.
800 providers have been chosen who will be making the vaccine available to those 80+ when they get it. 420,000 people. We think we’ll get 100,000 vaccines next week, so not enough for everyone. Over 1900 providers have signed up for future availability. County health depts will be telling us tomorrow or Thursday where 80+ can get the vaccine. Shipments will arrive every day M-W. We know it’ll take a while.
On Thursday ODH will post online lists of providers with the vaccine and how you can sign up for it. It will not update in real time.
We have asked each provider to complete the vaccines they receive within 7 days.
1/25 will open to 75+

So if we are to vaccinate 420,000 people and only getting 100,000 vaccines a week that is 4+ weeks plus then they need the second. or am I wrong?

I've never looked at our breakdown though

I just don't know how he can possibly think schools will be ready by March 1 then. Not to mention that by March 1 school has what 3 months at the most left. Just leave it alone for the year and start new in August.

The federal government said we won’t be saving the second doses anymore. They have confidence in the manufacturing process that the second doses will be available when needed. More details to come.
DeWine is signing an order today for 580 national guard to active duty to be available in DC and OH.

Oh he wants to give them a headstart but he won't just do them. I think that is a crappy way to do it. That age probably has more issues with getting to pharmacies and setting up appointments. Help them instead of passing them up.
