Talking about school quarantine. We’ve followed CDC guidelines on who to quarantine so far. Superintendents are saying the quarantined kids haven’t been at risk. Researchers from Ohio universities looked at covid transmission in schools. Their results support what we’ve been seeing anecdotally that as long as they’re wearing masks and trying to distance, they’re not contracting the virus. This is classroom exposure only, not sports or extracurricular activities. New school recommendation is to not quarantine as long as everyone was wearing masks and the exposure was in a classroom setting.
Curfew extended 3 more weeks.

I’m not sure how I feel about the new quarantine guidelines., especially as a high risk person with a high school kid. I’d rather be safe (Quarantine) than sorry (die).

DeWine posted this on his SM and DH and I aren’t sure how it’s a change from the current quarantine guidelines. The schools here have always quarantined if they didn’t have 6’ distancing in classrooms. DS’s school doesn’t have 6’. DH’s school does have 6’ and is not quarantining if exposure was when they were 6’ apart. This has been our health dept guidelines. Maybe other counties are doing it differently?

I was also confused what was supposed to be different about the quarentine guidelines. More of the same not actually doing anything bullshit.
We're about one hair from losing our minds over here. Mental health is a real struggle.

PDQ: So DS’s high school principal just sent an email saying that as long as kids are wearing masks, they don’t need to quarantine. I replied because the official guidance on the Covid site and the Governors own Facebook post from 12/31 says masks and distancing have to be followed to avoid quarantine and asked for clarification. I do not like the reply I got. Basically they’re ignoring the guidance that says other protocols also need to be followed (distancing). WDYT? Am I misinterpreting the guidance? I have to tread lightly here for reasons I don’t want to get into. DH says his (different) school district is still following the distance guidelines and there’s nothing else we can do. I have no idea how to or if I should reply. I’m upset because people’s lives are at stake and I’m high risk. From the Coronavirus OH site (Bolding is mine): coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/resources/news-releases-news-you-can-use/covid-19-update-12-30-20PDQ Here is his reply And the fact sheet he attached from the ODH says: (Bolding is mine)

DS's school district originally said they had plans to try hybrid in February, but I noticed DeWine's phase 1 vaccination plan release mentioned vaccines to teachers with the intent of March return. Sigh.

I’m half listening to the press conference.
1a has 1,000,000 people 1b-2,211,000 people-hope to start vaccinations in 2 weeks. 300k of that are school employees.

I hope that he is right but I don't know how Ohio is doing so well with vaccines that we can move on to another phase while other states aren't getting them.
GUess he could be at the top of Trump's list to get them.

My neighbor called early on the 1st and told me her H died overnight. There's been a constant stream of people over there since and one day at least 6 cars. I'm glad people are visiting because I know she's distraught, but we can see in the front windows and not a damn mask in sight. I'm praying nobody else gets sick.

I agree. I’m really hoping Biden’s team can do something to help the vaccination rollout.

I agree. I’m really hoping Biden’s team can do something to help the vaccination rollout. Or if he let the public health experts come up with the plan that he signed off on and was able to secure a lot of vaccines? I'm just guessing. As to your question earlier betty I'm curious as to what my district will do as our elementary schools have never had 6 feet distancing. I have not received anything saying that quarantine procedures were changing and I believe it was never the full classroom, just those that were not distancing for more that 15 mins.

betty, I read the study that they are basing the new school quarantine guidelines on, and I'm thinking your school is changing their policy based on this: "Taken together, we do not identify any differences in the groups that would imply a mandatory, at-home quarantine was necessary for students who were close contacts with appropriate mask usage." To me, that sounds like students who are identified as "close contact" in the classroom would not have to quarantine if they were wearing masks. HOWEVER... the study ALSO says that in all of their school districts they studied, the distancing protocols were being followed. So, to ME, that would mean the transmission in the classroom was very low because of BOTH the distancing and the masks. Either way, the guidance is not especially clear from the state, so I guess each district can interpret whichever way fits best for them. Which is wholly unhelpful.

Our county health department posted the new quarantine guidelines on Facebook this afternoon. It was just the language from above. I commented asking what the “other appropriate protocols” were and if distancing was taken into consideration. They replied saying “Protocols are all those schools have been asked to follow upon reopening. Of course, distancing, masks, etc would be included in that.” But our school never had the 6’, which is why they always had over 100 quarantined at any given time. So I’m still unsure. I get that it’s confusing and it sucks for the schools and everyone, but how hard is it to give set rules?

My school just sent out a notice for us to register for the vaccine so I guess I'll find out in the next few weeks when I get it.

MIL called H and said she was feeling conflicted on the vaccine. She's able to get it because she works for the hospital. Originally she didn't want to get it but the other night R was talking to her on the phone and said "you work for the hospital. Isn't there some way we can help the doctors to make all this go away so we can all be together again?" So now she's considering it. It took an 8 year old to convince a 65 year old to get the vaccine.
*I admit I was on the fence initially (and even posted here about it) but after reading up on it more I'm ready to get in line ASAP for it.

I was supposed to have a hair appointment next week. I canceled because I don't want to take my kids with me (its not a short process and a long drive and just no) and my mom can't get her head out of her ass enough to act responsible so nobody to watch the kids either. I'm just going to be sobbing in the corner now.

H is a teacher and hasn’t heard a thing yet. DH is a principal and our county health dept sent a google form to his superintendent, who then forwarded it to the staff, so they could sign up that they were interested in getting the vaccine. This will help the health dept plan but no date was mentioned.

I was supposed to pick up something at school for DD before break and forgot, went in today, and both the office ladies didn't have their masks on again. This is at least the 3rd time it's happened. I reported it to the health dept, but who knows if they'll do anything. A friend of ours reported them another time and they did get a visit from the health dept. They were nasty to her the next time she had to come in for something. I'm sure they'll do the same to me. I'm so sick of it.
