I feel like we need some sort of a fun thread not about all the shit going on. Any ideas? Never have I ever? Funniest memory? what your dream house would look like? if you had $1M all of a sudden what do you do? Or $500 you have to spend on yourself for fun stuff? Any interest/ideas? This board needs a pick me up! I agree! I was thinking about that too. Maybe a fun getting to know you every couple of days or so because were all checking in a little more often.

Anyone with children who need to be cared for should be first in line for those laptops. Right, except there's over 300 people in my Houston office. My boss hasn't even told us they're allowing work from home yet. My friend sent me a text about it this morning. My boss is headed back from the Houston office now to talk with us. I hope you're able to WFH! Do your in-laws have a computer you can borrow??

I said we weren’t going to leave the house for anything after the wedding yesterday. Of course my dog woke up unable to put weight on one paw so I had to take her to the vet. He thinks is it’s tendonitis so he gave her a steroid shot and gave me some anti-inflammatory pills.
Today was a “snow day” and distance learning starts tomorrow. I spent C’s nap modifying all the work for my students and now I’m in the basement with the little boys while DH is on a call. After the kids are in bed tonight, I need to go through each of their assignments and figure that all out for tomorrow. DD’s teacher dropped off stuff at each kid’s house today so her stuff is nice and organized. T’s stuff seems easy enough but it’s a lot to print out (like almost 100 pages!). Hope I have enough ink.

This sucks. I was done by about 10:30 this morning. Working while caring for a very active 6yo is rough. The CDC's recommendations for 8 weeks of this just about killed me this morning. I know it sucks but in these times think about things you can be grateful for...you're able to wfh, you have a healthy family, still have jobs, ect. I'm just really trying to remind myself how good I have it when things are challenging. ETA: and this isn't directed at you or an attack, just a reminder for everyone (as I remind myself). I have been repeating this to myself ad naseum for the past few days. We will take a big financial hit, but my kids will not have to miss a meal, or lose their house. I think about all the people who have it so rough right now it makes me crazy. I am so worried about all the kids who depend on school food. I know they have a plan in place now, but will that last if this goes on too long?

A good bit of our outpatients are canceling. I decided to not take a lunch and leave early and I just realized I never ate lunch. Whoops! I wasn’t even hungry I think because of all the news intake. Because patients are canceling I don’t have to go in tomorrow. I had already planned for Wednesday off and I told him to let me know about Thursday. They were doing sign ups for temp checking so I signed up for a few shifts next week. This week was full already. I also checked in with my other job to let them know to call me if they need me. I do think Trump doesn’t want to call a national quarantine because the markets opened so low this morning. Out of all the press conferences the last few days, I’m pretty sure the only thing on his mind is the economy and markets, not actually the American people. It was crazy to watch the the numbers decline as they were talking today. Also jewels, I’m so sorry what is happening at your company. That has to be so tough to deal with when you yourself are looking at a financial setback. This all sucks.

Hi, from the IT room in my Houston office. They thought they could use my old POS laptop they confiscated and put software on so I can VPN to my desktop.
Spoiler alert: it’s still not working.

My work apparently won't go to WFH. Unless there is a federal mandate. It's so stupid because it's a federal job so he could have announced this Friday. I agree that he's not for economic reasons but that is so stupid. What is the point of my kids being out of school for 6 weeks if I'm going out of the house everyday and exposing my family?
He's such a dick. Did you see his Tweet assuring us the airlines will be okay and calling it the "Chinese virus?" Even though I don't want to touch him I want to punch him in the face. I don't GAF about the airlines, those assholes who charge to sit next to your family will survive. And we don't need more Asianaphobia. 🤬

From what DH said, I think the lack of a 'national quarantine' is more of a constitutional issue than trying to keep the markets from collapsing. Our central government was created with the idea that it should have limited powers; it's really easier for states to implement this than the Fed at this point in time. Not saying that it *won't* happen at the federal level, but I think it is truly a last resort. I don't think anyone wants a situation where we have martial law and the National Guard is called out or anything...that would honestly be a recipe for disaster IMO.

Hi.
Very sorry for the hardships and stress this is causing everyone.
Survived my first day of 'home school', lol. We had a language arts session, played Sorry! as part of a math lesson, and took a nature walk and used our 5 senses to draw and label a picture of what we experienced. (God bless you, K teachers!) DH has officially turned over his duties to his replacement, so he's kind of at loose ends for the next couple months work-wise. So he will be home a lot more, for better or worse, lol.
DH went in the centralized move info/request system we have to go through and found that our request for a move had been cancelled--not by us or anyone else, apparently there was a glitch?--so he had to go get that straightened out today. A little nerve-wracking for a bit but should all work out ok.

There can be a lot of levels between martial law and tighter restrictions. I have no doubt Trump is hesitant to call for tighter restrictions for his own image. He was calling this a democratic hoax a few weeks ago. Meanwhile 6 more people died in my state today. Things need to be clearer nationwide or a lot of people's sacrifices won't have as much of an effect. There needs to be clear guidelines.

I've been very good and have not complained much during any of this, but I'm going to take 5 seconds to complain now. My ILs had been planning to visit this weekend. Weather is not looking good, and of course most things are closed. Groceries are spotty. Besides the obvious issues, we will be sitting in our small house without anywhere to go for 2 days (at least if it was better weather we could be outside, in the pool, etc).
DH called them and kind of explained our line of thinking--that maybe they should reschedule considering everything--and his mom was basically like, "Well, we're going to be sitting at home ourselves so we'd rather do it with y'all." Umm, not the point. She's been posting her share of "social distancing" FB stuff, etc. but apparently it does not apply to this.

That's frustrating flamingo . Will your husband call it or is he conflicted? Conflicted, for sure. DH is very much an 'honor thy father and mother' type and does not cross his folks on much. I think he felt like by putting it out there, they'd agree, and/or be like, "we totally understand, let's plan for XYZ weekend!" (or...in Flamingo's dream world...wait to visit once we've moved) eta: he kind of left it like, 'well let's see how the next couple days go'. They aren't due to come til Friday.

Agree. inthekitty It’s all about his image at all times. Pointing the finger at everyone else and praising himself when NO1CURR how good (read: tremendously incompetent) you look. Where are the tests? What are we doing to stop this shop from sinking? flamingo Olds man. My ILs sent us a pic of them at a party Friday and then they went to church Sunday. I mean, I didn’t quarantine myself this weekend, but I did not run to the nearest large gathering while 60+yo either. Hope they come to their senses.

Poor E mwhip , hope it doesn't hang around too long and your dad/SM avoid it! eta: Flamingo's Corona Virus Book Club: I finished The Dutch House and really enjoyed it. It would be a good book-club pick, lots to discuss. I downloaded another new release, Lost Roses (same author who wrote Lilac Girls, which I loved). It's a WWI story that incorporates the White Russians, who were exiled during Revolution there.

Our district distance learning plan is very “here is the stuff, do it when you want.” I’m not good at that, I need structure and deadlines. I just sat and made each of my kids a list of what I want them to do for each subject tomorrow. This morning I did the same for my students. I’m feeling a little less overwhelmed now. T’s teacher emailed that she’s doing a class Google Hangout Thursday morning. T is super excited.

They sent an email today saying that we can check the district website for optional learning activities for this week, but starting next Monday we will get required distance learning class work. Expect another email with more details. I also think that email will say we will be “distance learning” for longer than just that one week. We are still at a two week closing for now.

They cancelled Trolls World Tour release. It's going to be on-demand instead. Cadence is going to be pissed. Guess I'll do our own Trolls crafts and buy it on demand.

I got an email from my boss that the cdc has now decided that pregnant people are more at risk, listed all the “at risk” categories and asked us to respond if we are in one of the categories. I personally don’t mind working, I’m behind a desk and have control of who can come into the building with locked doors. I guess I’ll see tomorrow if I will be working or not. I didn’t see her email until after 5.
In other news, the internet at my house has been awful since yesterday afternoon. It better get fixed ASAP because I can’t go without it for long.

mwhip DH said it’s business as usual at work, but the bosses reminded them to wash their hands. Most deliveries were normal, except there were 2 that had locked doors and a sign that said to call a number if you have a delivery. DH said he called the numbers but the didn’t go through so he brought the packages back to the hub as non-deliverable.
