With the holiday weekend coming up, anyone making something good? We have a BBQ to attend on Sunday and I need a side dish. Preferably one that has not been mentioned in the UOs.

I will share a receipe that I LOVE
Oriental Salad
Ingredients
1 16 - ounce package shredded cabbage with carrot (coleslaw mix) 4 green onions, thinly sliced 1 3 - ounce package chicken-flavored ramen noodles, broken up 1/2-3/4 cup slivered almonds, toasted 1/2-3/4 cup sunflower nuts 1/2 cup salad oil 1/3 cup vinegar 1 tablespoon sugar 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper Sliced green onion (optional)
Directions
Combine coleslaw mix, green onions, ramen noodles (set aside seasoning packet for the dressing), almonds, and sunflower nuts in a salad bowl. Chill, covered, until serving time, up to 1 hour. For dressing: In a screw-top jar, combine oil, vinegar, sugar, pepper and seasoning from the package of noodles. Cover and shake. Chill until serving time. Before serving, shake dressing; pour over salad and toss to coat. If you like, garnish salad with additional sliced green onion.

chickenonsunday I love that stuff! I can't make it though because I will eat the entire thing myself. But it is my go-to at cookouts.

Found another "family" recipe in my email. This one is from my aunt Angie. Iowans love all things fluff.
As for the Strawberry Fluff recipe: 2 strawberry yogurts 1-8 oz. cool whip frozen strawberries-drained 1 small pkg. strawberry jello ***I usually double this. It also is good with raspberry yogurt, frozen raspberries, and raspberry jello. Have a great day!---Angie

Guys - you can trust the recipes I recommend that I actually make. Anything I post with mayo is not crossing these lips. BLEH. Makes me shudder.

I have two weddings/rehearsals for the weddings to work at this weekend, so I'm mostly looking for fast holiday food. We might get Indian takeout on Saturday and probably do the brat thing on Monday. What's a good fast dessert for me to make for my friend's shindig on Sunday, though? How far do you have to drive? Do you have the ability to keep the dessert cold once you get to the shindig?

I made a folder in my email to keep them all handy. Some of these are from 2002 when I moved to North Carolina.

My recipe consisted of crushed pineapple (drained), cottage cheese, strawberry jello packet, and cool whip.
It sounds weird, but it's delicious

Patriotic, easy, and delicious.

Okay, this one I'm having to tap into my memory bank for - Corn Casserole Can of corn (drained) Can of cream corn Box of Jiffy Cornbread mix Stick of butter melted 1/2 T. of sugar 1/2 of sour cream 1 egg beaten Mix everything together and put into a greased 9x9 glass pan. Bake at 350 for an hour. I'll come back and modify this if I am off. This is a family favorite that is always served memorial weekend while attending the Indy 500.

This reminds me to ask my friend what she's bringing to the barbecue we're going to. She and I were assigned fruit and veggies and I need to know which she's bringing. I'm assuming she'll call the fruit.
Typically I bring chips and bean dip (refried beans + salsa + cheese) or jalapeno poppers.

Here is a Smores bar recipe that I love.
18 whole graham crackers, crumbled into small pieces 2 cups rice krispies 1 cup light corn syrup 1/3 cup brown sugar 2 Tablespoons butter or margarine 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 7 (1.55 ounces each) milk chocolate candy bars 1 package ( 10 ounce) mini marshmallows 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips ( I used more)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Combine crackers with cereal in a large mixing bowl; set aside.
Cook corn syrup and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a boil just around edges. Remove from heat; stir in butter, baking soda, and vanilla.
Pour syrup over cereal mixture and stir to coat completely. Transfer to a GREASED 13x9-inch pan; press firmly to level. Place chocolate bars in a single layer over cereal mixture; sprinkle with marshmallows.
Bake in preheated oven for 5-8 minutes, or until marshmallows are puffed and lightly browned. Remove from oven and top with mini chocolate chips.
Refrigerate for 1 hour until firm; cut into squares. Store in tightly closed container for up to 2 days.
*If you use a glass pan, let the pan cool before you put it in the refrigerator so your pan doesn't break. I also use parchment paper instead of greasing the pan. Make sure to grease your hands before pressing the cereal mix down.

The UO thread made me want to never eat again. Thank you all for restoring my interest in food. Unfortunately I am now starving.
