I applaud you for cleaning your husband's crap out of the spare room wedding. Scott has a pile of crap in our bedroom and about 6 months ago I asked him to have it cleared out by the end of the year. It's March and still sitting there. I'm about to donate it all.

Re: Covid 19.

I came down with cold/flu-like sxs so I'm assuming I have it. It was just a matter of time once it hit the Seattle area. I wanted to get tested so I could be as responsible as possible and alert my coworkers so they'd know about possible exposure and be sure I'm symptom free before returning to my regular job. The requirements to get testing are so limited that basically no one will meet the criteria. 😒 So I can't get tested for it.

Overall I feel sick but not miserable. It's certainly not the worst illness I've had in the past year. I'm more concerned about spreading it to someone who is immunocompromised. I get really annoyed when people share memes about how most people have recovered. Well no shit. The death rates always suggested most people would, but for those who are at high risk there is valid concern.

inthekitty hope you recover quickly from whatever you have. Will they make you keep the girls out of school? Oddly, when my nephew got sick after his hernia surgery last month and not a single case was known in the US, he was tested according to the discharge papers my sister has.

I'm obviously still a stress case over here. I was doing okay but today I've been pretty anxious about scenarios where older/IC people get it and are suffering alone because they are in quarantine.

The lack of leadership on this is alarming. This is a situation where you want to get as many people as tested as possible to see where it is, as well as to prove that the death rate is lower than it appears now (hoping this is true).

I'm most likely being sent home from work within the week. And the market situation is serious, especially with the oil price drop.. normally that'd be good for lower gas prices, but not when no one is driving anywhere. We may refinance again though, waiting to see how the next few days play out.

A coworker said that her BIL was hospitalized for pneumonia last week. All of his rapid flu tests were neg and When none of the drugs were working on him, they tested for COVID-19. She said no one took any type of precautions once they suspected and went in to test him. He doesn’t have it, but when they sent some blood off for some other testing, the test finally came back that he actually did had the flu. I guess that and the pneumonia just had his immune system shot and they were scared he wasn’t going to make it through.

I don’t know. I don’t have a lot of faith in how our govt is handling this and that is the only reason I am a little nervous. We need to get that sorry ass Cheeto out of office ASAP.

ETA: also do you use some type of tool that gives you refi options or prices? I know a couple of people here has refinanced in the last year and it just has me wondering if I should look into it to. I know the refi rate is lower than what we got, but how do you know if it’s worth it? Explain it to me like I’m 5. Lol. Well when you have time- of course. Doesn’t have to be today.

Not tallb, but when we refinanced we weighed the cost vs savings, of course. Pete worked for the bank doing our refinance at the time so the cost was around $1,300, which is just slightly more than it saved us per year at the lower rate. We have had that rate for ten years, so $1,300 cost of refi saved us over $12,000 in that time.

I would consider how long you plan to stay to decide if it’s worth it to you.

Yes, I can work from home but if the kids are home, that will make it challenging. I'm technically emergency personnel so I will have to attempt to work, of catch up at night as needed.

For refinancing, cagoldi covered it pretty well. I am NOT good with financing but rates are low enough that it could save us about $300 a month. There are closing costs though (that can be wrapped into the new loan, so doesn't have to be out of pocket..just higher loan), so need to make sure that you plan to be there long enough to break even. Mh has said if planning to stay 5 or more years, then most likely worth it. Also should be a big enough difference in rate to make it worth it..like .75 or a full point difference. We do a 30 year fixed rate, so arms and such may be different. Also keep in mind that it resets the 30 year clock, but since we bought recently it's not the biggest deal. If we had been hear 10 years, we'd refi to a 15 year probably since that's less interest in the long run.

I just emailed our lender to see what he could offer, I sometimes check random banks to see what their rate is, but I don't submit info bc I don't want to start the process and have them check my credit(which would lower the score).

We just did a refinance on the beach house because we were just under a year in and we got our rate from 4.5 to 3.49. It’s still a 30 year. My regular house we have been watching. We did a 20 year in 2014 when we did our remodel. The rate was better so it wasn’t worth it but we are keeping our eyes on it. If I could refinance it to a 10 year with a lower rate then what I have, we would do it for sure. Things are still shaking out at work for DH since they fired his boss a few weeks ago so I don’t want to take on a higher payment until the dust settles.

Thanks for the info ladies. I didn’t know it would “cost” us, so that’s probably not ideal for us since we really don’t know where we will be in 5 years. We actually like it here so far and I would like to still be here, but who knows. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’m glad I have the info now. Appreciate it.

This resonated with me from the article:

I haven't kept the kids home because they haven't shown signs of it. But I feel like this women does. I want to be responsible but we have no guidance. The only way they will test here is 1) if you've been to China recently (how the eff is that one of the most relevant issues when it's here in our state?), 2) you've been to the nursing home that was the known source of the WA outbreak, or 3) you've been in direct contact with someone who has tested positive. Well no one's getting tested so how is that supposed to happen? They don't want me to go to the doctor unless I have respiratory issues (from my understanding you're fucked once you have severe respiratory issues).

I want to know so I can make the decision if my family should stay home for 2 weeks to not infect others, not because I'm demanding a cure. 😒

They way our government is handling this is deplorable.

We re-fid last spring, paid nothing out of pocket.  Even the cost for the appraisal was rolled into our new mortgage, even though our lender said we would have to pay that out of pocket.  I'm glad we did it, it gave us the cash to pay off some other debts.  I will likely look into doing it in another few years, unless the market goes to shit.

I hadn't thought about that. I suppose it's possible. I think if it's not Covid it's a random virus...and since Covid is the virus going around these parts...

lahdeedah I looked into this over the weekend just by googling the interest rate and googling refinance calculators. We had a pretty good interest rate for a 30 yr- I think 3.49% or 3.69%. As of Sat morning it wasn’t worth it for us but I did look into going to a 15 year. It would cost us $400 more a month but save over $20k in interest. Unfortunately that means a pretty tight budget life and I don’t know that I want to live without vacations and cute clothes🤷‍♀️
