Anyone from the or visit the Charlotte, NC area? We're thinking of visiting there on our road trip, but have never been and it looks super pricy to stay one night with the 4 of us.

Charlotte is my hometown! It has changed a lot since I moved away for college though. We take M to the Discovery Place (science museum) when we visit, since it has a reciprocal membership with ours. Pineville or Matthews might have cheaper lodging. My favorite place to eat there is Lupie's Cafe-- it's got great food (closed Sundays), and is super kid friendly. It's kind of an old dive, but I love it.

Thanks, Nikki. My bro lives in Raleigh and his best but said Charlotte is for "yuppies and bankers" LOL
So now we're thinking Winston-Salem. Unless S has a heart attach over the reality of lodging for 4 people over 7 days (he severely underestimated prices), in which case, we may just turn around after Raleigh.

That's funny (and not entirely untrue), though I would counter with the fact that Raleigh has no shortage of yuppies . I like WS a lot, J lived there before I made him move to be with me. There, I really like Sticks and Stones (pizza place with lots of locally sourced toppings and good beer), and Deweys Bakery (there are a few locations, I had their pink lemonade cake at my wedding). Old Salem is neat too, if you like historic type places. Whatever you decide, enjoy your trip!
